Rare manders175 Posted January 5, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Where is the best place to get a lanyard to hold my cruise card and money? Is there a need for a waterproof one? Thanks everyone. :)
Clarea Posted January 5, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Where is the best place to get a lanyard to hold my cruise card and money? Is there a need for a waterproof one? Thanks everyone. :) The ship sells lanyards in the General Store. To keep things waterproof, you would need a water wallet, also sold in the General Store. If you have time, check out Amazon, these items are usually less expensive there.
alfaeric Posted January 5, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 5, 2015 We've gotten all of our lanyards as part of events. The customer service desk will happily punch a hole in your seapass card for it.
Ksimpson76 Posted January 5, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Agreed. Here are 2 links to lanyards on Amazon. You will probably pay 2-3x this on the ship. cb at sea Posted January 5, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Hubby keeps his in his pocket..I keep mine in a very small purse, along with lipstick, comb, etc....no lanyards!
Grandma Dazzles Posted January 5, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Many stores - in all price ranges - sell them - office supply stores, Walmart. often see them by the register in uniform stores. Easier than ordering on line as shipping sometimes costs more than the lanyard. I am partial to a Vera Bradley one that I received as a gift, but it is not a water wallet; just a lanyard with a zip pocket.
AustinCruise Posted January 5, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 5, 2015 Home Depot has lanyards cheap (not the water wallet type though). Look where they duplicate keys.

MikeySm Posted January 6, 2015 #10 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Do not use them, you are a target. Keep everything in wallet, purse or a safe place. Not around you neck.
Mary Ellen Posted January 6, 2015 #11 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I wouldn't wear a lanyard ashore, but you're perfectly safe wearing on the ship.
LouieWithey Posted January 6, 2015 #12 Share Posted January 6, 2015 Yes, I wouldn't wear it around when your on Shore..... On the ship, totally safe. -- Louie
Davey Wavey Posted January 6, 2015 #13 Share Posted January 6, 2015 There is a link to the cruise critic store at the top of the page. I always get free ones from the casino.
paul929207 Posted January 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 6, 2015 We use lanyards while on the ship, but not ashore. So we do not have a need to keep cash in the lanyard. If the lanyard is weak enough, it can be pulled and will break easily. If it is stronger, you neck can be seriously injured by someone grabbing it. SteveH2508 Posted January 6, 2015 #15 Share Posted January 6, 2015 I have to wear my work ID on a lanyard - I'm damned if I'm going to walk round with a card on a lanyard when I'm on holiday!
CptSticky Posted January 6, 2015 #16 Share Posted January 6, 2015 The DW likes them, I don't. She tells me that the cloth ones itch. The beaded ones almost always break before the cruise is over (she buys the ones with fine wire inside, maybe monofilament would be better?). Remember to keep them away form all magnets or your card will demagnetize. She wears them ashore and never a problem. Have you ever looked around at how many people are wearing them ashore? SantaFeFan Posted January 6, 2015 #17 Share Posted January 6, 2015 (edited) I attend too many conventions, where we call lanyards "Nerd Alerts". About the only thing less attractive than lanyards are stick on name tags. :) Lanyards are banned on my vacations!! I don't want to stand out as a tourist. Cruisin' Chick Posted January 7, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 7, 2015 I got my mine at Walmart, which also sells the plastic sleeves (but you can get a package of those at most office supply stores like Office Max). If you have a teen stores like Hot Topic have fun ones. When packing up for a port day, the lanyard goes into my purse, which makes it easy to find for getting scanned in and off the ship. The sleeve will also hold my credit card and driver's license too.
