Favorite Trivia Theme

My favorites have been James Bond trivia and Beatles trivia, of which I both won.

Was really proud of winning the Beatles trivia since I'm only 30 years old and answered 19 of the 20 questions right. I beat out a lot of older folks that were playing that would have been young adults when the Beatles were going, so that was really cool.

On our last cruise, I was the captain for the womens' team for Men Vs Women trivia.

We won by being able to answer the question, "This is the catchphrase from a popular 80s movie. Finish the phrase. There can be only.....?"

I didn't move from my spot. I didn't have to poll the women. I KNEW that answer.

The host looked at me. "Aren't you going to move?"

Nope. I knew it. And the guys were staring at me like I was crazy..how could i know this.

Duh. The answer was "Only one."...it's from one of my favorite bad 80s movies, "The Highlander". :D

Hey, I would have known the answer with you! I LOVE the movie Highlander, even the bad acting and French-supposed-to-be-Scottish accent, and the series as well.

Good job. :D

The TV show trivia was my favourite. I went to most of them on my last cruise. Not exactly trivia but I also loved the scavenger hunt..

I like any trivia game IF the host has the correct answers. And they prohibit the use of the internet and binders with the answers, and throw in that they don't use the same questions used the previous week.

I have had to argue my case several times in Geography Trivia. (I have a MA in Geography and own a map store) One was "How many oceans are there?" the accepted answer is 4. Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, and Arctic. But in 2010, the Southern Ocean was added.

I was on a Celebrity cruise and a lady had a thick binder with all of the previous Trivia Questions from all of her previous cruises. On a Carnival Cruise, we had a group that had a laptop hooked into the WIFI. On the Same Carnival Cruise, they used the same questions from the week before so the B2B cruisers won all the trivia games.

Play fair folks.

They did a Michael Jackson trivia on our last cruise that I didn't play and regret, I was listening in and knew all the songs that was played....I would've won!! LoL. We also did a who's who's trivia that I really liked, will definitely be doing a lot more on our cruise on the Dream in December and I hope they have the Michael Jackson one on that one 😊

We needed you on our last cruise. The question was "what is the only continent w/o volcanoes. We were wrong...figured it was Antarctica. The host said Australia. Then during the answers said she would accept Oceana as well. There were two teams that were losing it. One kept saying Australia was a country, not a continent and the other kept saying that Oceana includes the Fiji islands which have volcanoes. Goodness.

As for the people who cheat, I don't get that. For me the fun is in seeing what answers I know. Cheating for a plastic SOAS? Seriously?

As for my favorite, we did one with company slogans which was different and new to me. Otherwise general trivia is what I like best.

I prfer general trivia as the Bride and I complement each other but 60's music I've only lost once, that was when the guest musicians, all Gold records winners from 70's formed a team and beat us by a point.

I like general trivia, but my favorite trivia categories are 80s music, science, sci-fi and brain teasers.

The weirdest trivia I ever played was 'stupid laws'. Questions such as: "in what (US) state may boogers not be flicked into the wind"? Host would give two options, for instance, Alabama or Texas. I guessed 18 out of 20 correct.

I love doing the Men Vs Women trivia because a lot of times I know the answers they ask the women's team because I've been a huge tomboy all my life. Plus I retain knowledge like elephants supposedly do and if I think for a minute, I can usually dig up the answer. LOL

Just like you, I also love the Men vs. Women trivia. I know the action/adventure/sci fi/tools questions and rely on the other ladies on the team for the girly/make-up/fashion questions.

I was never a tomboy but I am NOT a chick flick gal. Give me a movie with lots of pyrotechnics, shooting, action, and I am a very happy gal. Take me to Lowe's and I'm even happier. :D

  • 2 months later...

On our last Carnival Cruise (Magic 2013) we played trivia 3 times. Once we teamed up with an older gent on 50's Music and won, but as we only knew a few, and the gentleman knew way more than us, we insisted he take the SOS. We won Musical Trivia outright, mainly because I was the only one that knew the name of the singer who's voice dubbed for so many Hollywood Actresses in the 50's & 60's musicals. We did okay in Sports Trivia, but lost by a couple of points because there must have been at least 5 golf questions, and neither one of us knows that much about it.

However, my best outing was on a NCL cruise. The category was famous movie quotes and I knew every single one. The bad news was at that time NCL didn't give any prize for "winning", not even a crappy key chain.

Our last Carnival cruise the trivia was held in the bar at the casino several times a day. They had food trivia(I won), one hit wonder's trivia(artist and song), Motown trivia, country music trivia, 50's, 60's, Broadway Musical's trivia, and TV theme song trivia.

I love trivia and play it several times a cruise. Last time we got our choice of SOAS or a medal on a neck ribbon.

Dr. Who followed the next night at the same time, and place, and host, by Harry Potter trivia! Almost the exact same people came out. I only wish it were earlier in the cruise, as these were the dorks of the cruise and we would have fit right in. My son was even welcomed (age 4) because he was chasing his sister around with a sonic screwdriver!

I love trivia on the ship's whether is a sea day or I come back early on a port day. My last 3 cruises I have left with no less than 3 SOAS. My favorite is post 2000 trivia. I got 20/20 and the next closest person had 13/20. I also enjoy the games in between some trivial like the genius test. Its always nice to get out of the heat enjoy a cold beverage and have fun with other cruisers laughing at some of the ridiculous questions that get asked. I do terrible at Disney trivia as I'm a 27 y/o straight male.

The cheating that happens is very frustrating and its even more annoying when the host does nothing about it. I've seen some people sit at a table with a binder and have (no lie) 11 SOAS sitting on their table. Also know if we're on the same sailing I will call you out because everyone deserves a fair chance. At the very least do what we did in high school and memorize the answers. Don't rub it in our faces as there are children playing.

I always bring a highlighter with me to highlight the trivias that I can't miss, even if I know I will lose I always enjoy learning new things.

Another great thing about trivia on the ship's is when the trivia hosts(entertainment staff) are really into hosting and have a blast and make jokes with the group of people who are always playing trivia. If you play a lot there's always a group of about 8-12 who are always there and it becomes a competition among "the regulars."

Even if you're worried you're not going to do well I recommend still attending if you have nothing else going on for that time period. If that ship has enthusiastic, fun and funny people hosting trivia you will have a blast regardless if you know the answers or not.

As you can tell I love the onboard trivia and to that small group of people with your binders/notebooks with you at the table. STOP CHEATING WE ALL KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING AND THERES YOUNG CHILDREN WHO WILL PLAY FAIR BUT YOU SOMEONE WHO CRUISES ONCE A MONTH HAS TO CHEAT? All is ask is WHY?!?

Hey,

so i know some people prefer to just lay out on deck and avoid the "structured" activities. But I enjoy some of them-- especially Trivia.

So my question is what are some of the crazier themes you have seen? what is your personal favorite trivia theme?

First, we enjoy the '60s trivia, as well as "Name that Beatles song" trivia (which I was able to name every one of them..along with 30 other people).

But our favorite trivia is the "Brain Games" trivia. Here's an example: A man leaves home, makes 3 left turns and runs into 2 masked men. Who are they? Think about it.....

Answer: the catcher and umpire

:cool:Bill
