Princess Visa Points

I print it out and bring it for "just in case" but never saw this before. Nice when others have eagle eyes and share. :)

Especially when the last 2 cruises I never received a response email from Barclay confirming my cabin credit exchanges. They did arrive at the ship as scheduled but it would have been reassuring to know they had been processed correctly.

I hadn't thought about this before but if I understand what is being said, not all purchases at Princess get double points since "buying" OBC does not count as a purchase. Are there other things that don't get double points? Gift cards? Gifts for people on board like canapes? Pre-paying for excursions?

Everything you pay to Princess gets double points. Cashing in your points for OBC does not qualify as paying anything. So to answer your question, you get double points for buying gift cards, gifts for other people or prepaying excursions. I call Princess before the cruise and buy my casino credits ahead of time and get double points for that too.

I print the confirmation page on my browser right after redeeming and don't rely on receiving the email. I print that too and bring both. Call me jaded but I've had to fight for OBC too many times once onboard, even with confirmation, to leave anything to chance. Much easier to fix while onboard than to try to fix it after the cruise.

 • 2 months later...

We are doing an Alaskan cruisetour in May with Princess. We are staying an extra night at the Princess Fairbanks lodge and have booked several land excursions with Princess. These will be paid with our Princess Visa. Does anyone know if we will receive 2x points for these charges?

Thank you to those who have suggested we cash in our points after our cruise to help pay off what we spend during the cruise. This is exactly what we want to do after our Alaska adventure.

Anything purchased from Princess earns double points. :)

I call Barclay to redeem points & they ask for a booking number so have one to give them. We are not cruising as often & primarily using an airline miles card thus not accumulating as many Princess points. For our upcoming cruise we bought casino credit for 2 reasons...it gives us enough points to get a $100 credit on our charge card balance and we do not need to bring as much cash (extra cash tips, independent tours, etc.) by redeeming our vouchers ($25, $50 or $100) at the casino.

Though not recently (I'm saving up points!), I have on more than one occasion converted points to pay on the Visa balance, without needing a booking number and no future cruise booked at that time.

Last time I did it, it was $1000 toward balance AFTER a cruise (obviously I had been saving up points!!). I plan on doing the same later this year too, if doing so hasn't changed!

I too try to get all the double points I can before/during a cruise then just make the card's payment with the points I have on hand.

Or, redeem points for a cruise discount. You will get more $ value for the points and it will show on your monthly statement as a credit. We just redeemed 60,000 points for a $750.00 credit. All you have to do is provide them with a booking number from a recent cruise that you charged to your Visa and the credit will show in about 2 to 3 weeks.

I've done this a couple of times and have been very pleased with the extra $$ off my CC bill

As long as you have a booking # to apply against they are happy to do it

How many different Princess CC are there? I do have one but it says the only thing I can get is a cruise discount or a balcony breakfast....I know I am missing something...

There is only one Princess credit card issued by Barclay with many options to redeem points.

When my whole family went on a cruise, I paid for everyone through my Princess credit card and had them pay me. THAT was quite a nice jump in points!!

I've cash in points to get both a "free" Panama Canal cruise and a "free" 14 day South American cruise. I use my card for everything including the cable bill! And pay it off every month.

When you log into your credit card account, there is a button that says 'view rewards', this takes you to a page to see your total points and another link to 'redeem rewards'. This opens a new window that lets you select from a group of rewards, such as OBC, cruise discounts, etc. You can browse through the selections and varying point levels to see what you qualify for or want to work towards.

Let me make sure I understand this correctly. I have 40,000 points I was going to redeem for our Med cruise, which with EZ Air and shore excursions will cost over $10,000, and will equal 20,000 points.

I was thinking of redeeming the points before the cruise, but if I wait, until we return, I'll have 60,000 points to redeem to pay off the cruise. Is this correct? I've never done it this way before, but it makes more sense. I just don't want to mess it up.

Thanks for this great info.

Yes! :)

I didn't look at the chart again to refresh my memory but for 60,000 points I believe that's a $750 credit you can get against your charge card balance. I've been asked for a reservation number but don't think they actually check to verify it. I think you can request online however I always call just to make sure my request is accurately submitted. After reading this thread, I think I will apply for the card. I do have one question. I use my AMEX-Plat card for everything that will take it. There are several places including my health facilities that won't take it so I have another VISA card for those charges.
Is there anyway I can use the AMEX card to charge my husband's fare to receive their perks and then this Princess VISA to charge mine? AMEX just eliminated a couple cruise perks and who knows what may happen in the future. Like the Elite bar set up, there is only one per cabin. And AMEX only gives one perk per cabin.

Anyone ever try this?

Thanks.

As I recall reading, it's possible for each passenger to use a different charge card for their onboard account so it may be possible to pay with different cards. Edited by Astro Flyer
On the print-out of your Travel Summary. It's at the very bottom on the last page. They don't make it easy. :(
WOW - Thanks Pam, I've never bothered to print out those pages. I have always just brought my receipt for my visa OBC as I never could find it anywhere. You're not kidding, they really don't make it easy to see. Thanks again.
