Megsie2 Posted February 8, 2015 #102 Share Posted February 8, 2015 Even though I've read this entire thread I'm a cruise virgin and just a bit confused. I can purchase onboard credit in Australian dollars and get US $ value by ringing the RCI site directly. Yes. My question is can I then withdraw this same money out whilst onboard to use on islands etc or does it have to be used onboard

GUT2407 Posted February 8, 2015 #104 Share Posted February 8, 2015 I do have limits as to how much I can spend though:p I could lend you someone who hasn't got such limits:eek:, but I'd want her back again.
GUT2407 Posted February 8, 2015 #105 Share Posted February 8, 2015 I have a question, i am on a cruise with Celebrity and the cruise line gave us $350 OBC with the cruise, if i top up my OBC with $500 of my money does the cruise line use my money first on purchases or there money. and if i don't spend it all will i get a refund. The way I believe it works, is you will get your own money back.If you didn't spend any money, you would only get $500 back. If you spent $350, you would still get $500 back. So yes, you use the non-refundable OBC first. This is my experience with RCI (which I assume would include Celebrity) and Princess.:) Spot on, they use non-refundable first. Cruzbear24 Posted February 9, 2015 #109 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Tried the number today but it is Mon - Fri only so will ring first thing Mon am. We are on Voyager 16 March. Fingers crossed X :-) Just rang RCI and bought $1000 obc. Reassured it was $1AUD to $1USD but warned that my credit card might charge a foreign transaction fee as it will be processed in the US. I found the automated menu didn't have the category for purchasing obc so had to pick "altering booking" and then she put me through to the correct person. Very easy process but had to wait about 20 mins in queue. Number is supposedly toll free. Claire
The_Big_M Posted February 9, 2015 #110 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Depends on the islands , maybe she meant the Caribbean islands.;) True, but referring to islands in shorthand when talking about cruises out of Australia certainly suggests the South Pacific islands. :D

Schumi5 Posted February 9, 2015 #112 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Just managed to successfully put OBC and confirmed several times that the $750AUD will be $750USD onboard. Already have received email stating $750 credit, lets hope like others have mentioned that that is what it will be showing once onboard. Pretty good deal if this is the case

dmccue Posted February 9, 2015 #116 Share Posted February 9, 2015 I have booked on X for April16 but though an American Travel agent and just called Celebrity Reservations in OZ and was told that I would have to do it via that agent. Do you think it would still be available for them to do it or would they just charge me in USD?
woodyren Posted February 9, 2015 Author #117 Share Posted February 9, 2015 Just added $2000 more and had it confirmed that the OBC can be used in the casino. Interesting. I asked repeatedly and was told. The casino uses cash. You cant redeem this OBC offer for cash. So you cant use it for the casino. I really need some confirmation as I will load up some more if I can and use the excess US$$ for my Quantum cruises on board spend as I am unable to buy any on this deal because I purchased it through a US TA. Anyone sailing in the next week or so that could do a test run.

They will charge you in USD as far as I can tell. Jatee Posted February 9, 2015 #121 Share Posted February 9, 2015 I just purchased $1500AUD at a 1:1 to USD. I asked how I go about getting any remaining OBC when the cruise is over and was told I could get it paid out in cash in USD or put back on my card (forgot to ask what rate it would go back on at). I also asked if I wanted money when going off the boat for shore excursions could I use the OBC and she said yes - that I could withdraw money from my account in the currency that I needed. Does that sound right? I suppose if you can withdraw cash out from your card you could then use it for the casino. She also said that the 'special promotion' is going until the end of the week. The lady I spoke to said there was an email with this 1 to 1 offer sent out to C & A members but i did not see this email . Does anyone have a copy?
