CAPE LIBERTY 411 (and NYC too) Version 4!!

It's at 12 from JFK to Los Angeles on delta.

The company I booked it through told me a 4 hr window would be ok. Slightly worried now....

Well, at least it's not international. That gives you more breathing room.

My expertise is not with sailing from Manhattan. You do want to book a car service like Dial7 or Carmellimo to whisk you away to JFK. Will you have cell phone service? Are you traveling on a US passport? The folks who sail NCL will have to advise you on strategies for getting off the ship quickly. That will probably mean self disembarkation and getting in line early.

Doesn't matter if NOBODY can get off the ship.

I understand that you have a bad disembarkation experience. ,I feel the pain, as I have had bad disembarkation experiences on multiple cruise lines (I remember specific really bad ones on Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Celebrity, but there are no doubt some other less than stellar experience on other lines on our 50+ cruises). Still a bad disembarkation cruise does not mean all will be bad. You can ask on NCL boards about people's recent BA disembarkation experiences. We had an easy time getting off Breakaway, though our luggage was mis-sorted (yellow tag placed in orange tag area, evidently by colorblind or careless sorter!), but still we had lots of time to kill at LGA....killing time at LGA is not so great, but it beats a really bad disembarkation.

If it were me with a four hour window for a JFK flight, I'd do self disembarkation and I'd line up early, as suggested by Meg. Lots of other people will self disembark in NY, so expect a long, slow moving line. Nonetheless, self disembarkation will put you ahead of the luggage tags. If you are staying in a full suite, get the concierge to help you get off early. Arranging a car service probably makes sense, though cabs are available across the street if you wish to go tha way instead. It is always wise to have a back up plan I case something really goes wrong, especially if it is crucial you be home for work or personal business the next day. Good luck.

Def will be self embarking.

I will have a mobile and it's a British passport.

Maybe I'll see if I can change my flight to a later time to be safe....

Thank you all for your advice. I will def pre book a car to whisk us away n be up super early and be one of the first in the queue if I can't change my flight. I looked at dial

7 but I can't see how to pre book that?

They asked for opinions. They don't have to take it. I realize that they may or may not have a similar experience. I gave mine-- I wouldn't do it. I wish the best if they do.

All info helpful, thanks! Sorry you had a bad experience but it means I'll up super early and first in line- if I can't change my flight!

We will be docking at 7:00 am on Sunday, Oct 18 and have a 1:00 pm flight out of EWR, suddenly feeling a little stressed about the timing. Is this enough time to disembark, get to the airport and clear security? Suggestions for transport to EWR?

1 P.M. flight is fine, especially on Sunday. There are vans at about $28 per person that go to EWR. You can also grab a taxi that will cost about $60 with tip. The taxis might be harder to get, as they use them mostly for the more expensive fares. The vans fill pretty quickly for EWR, so you should have no problems.

We are driving in on a Saturday morning (10/17/15) from Gettysburg, PA. Google directions say I-78 to exit 14a where I know there has been construction. Google also says the trip is about 3 hours 20 minutes. We plan on leaving around 7:30 and hoping to arrive by 11. Hoping others who have travelled on a Saturday might share their experience. I'm just getting really excited :-)

Anyone know of a way to find out how much the tolls are? From Gettysburg to the pier? I'm hoping there's a easy to use website out there.

Thanks, I think I checked before booking, but just needed a little reassurance. Last minute jitters.

If you come on I78, your only tolls should be from NJ Turnpike Exit 14 to exit 14A, which is $1.65.

Directions from NJ Turnpike exit 14A

At exit 14A please follow these directions. Others have followed them successfully. The signage is poor. There are lots of choices and you have to make a quick decision as to where you are going. For a first timer there's not time to stop and try to spot the correct little sign and I'm not sure the names of all the streets are clearly marked. GPS is not 100% reliable in this area.

The ramp is straight across the toll plaza. Here's a video. No real street signs.

After you pay your toll you go straight across the toll plaza and get on a 2 lane ramp that goes up and curves left. This is hard to miss. On the ramp you stay on the right and make the first right, stay to the right and make another right. You will come to the light at route 440 where you will make a left, stay left, and make a left at the first light onto Goldsborough Drive. Route 440 is a four lane divided highway. You can only turn left at a traffic light - going south the first light is now at Goldsborough Drive. The left turn into the port used to be at Port Terminal Blvd (and it still is coming the other way), but they shut down that turn fairly recently and made Goldsborough Drive the main port access road coming from the north. Goldsborough Drive will merge with Port Terminal Blvd. You will be able to see the ship and you just follow the crowd about 2 miles out to the ship.

I need advice we are staying at country inn and suites in newark I am going to call and schedule our car service to cape liberty. We would like to get there about 10:20 so what time would you schedule the car pick up?

I just stayed there on the 14th and left to the port on the 15th. I signed up at the front desk for a small bus shuttle for $17.50 pp one-way. I took the 10am shuttle and there were only 6-8 people on the bus. Very easy to use.

Thank you for taking the time to post this information. I am aware of the shuttle but there are 4 of us and I found it was less expensive to book a car service and we can decide what time we can get to the port.:) More $ for drinks on board :D

We used Independent Limo (or is it Driver?) our last time sailing from Cape Liberty. IIRC, it was $55 each way. We were with another couple and they paid to the ship and we paid back to the hotel (the Hampton Inn on the other side of the NJT). The $55 did not include tip.

No frills car service - no web site - book 4-6 weeks ahead

I have a question, too. How's the garage coming along? There were too many old responses using the search function [emoji5]️. Thank you!

The outside is finished. I cannot see what's going on inside but it can't be far from ready, since the building was all pre-fab. They appear ready to pour the concrete for the area leading into the garage. The weather for the next couple of days may delay that just a bit. I am pretty sure it will be ready for the Anthem on November 4th.
