Onboard credit question

Recommended Posts

OBC can be used for tips ONLY if you don't have MyTime Dining. Royal doesn't feel it necessary to treat guests equitably in that case.

You can get refundable OBC back as cash at the purser desk at full value.

You can get non-refundable OBC back as cash in the casino for a 5% charge.

Yes it can be used for tips and if it's from your TA and isn't used it will be refunded back onto your credit card :)

it can be used to pay for anything that you charge once onboard. If you have prepaid your tips then it cannot be used for that purpose.

Also, there are two types of OBC...

Refundable (coded OBR) which is yours to keep if you do not use it (Most OBC from TAs fall in this category)

non-refundable (coded OBN) which is use it or lose it.

You will be able to see the coding once the OBC posts to your onboard account.

Also, if you have both, OBN is used before OBR

Can you explain how you do this please? Do I take my seapass into the Casino. Go to the person who hands out the cash and ask for a certain amount of dollars? How much can one get at one time? Do I have to give a reason for wanting the cash?

This would be really helpful for me to know. I've never done it, nor do I know anyone who says they've done it.

Thank you so much for any help in this!!

Just go to the cashier and ask for cash from your card. If there is a limit it's very high. The only limit is that you must take out a multiple of $20 (like at most ATMs).

Thank you so much for that answer, ahecht. It really helps me. I have some very high non-refundable OBCs for some sailings and I know that I'll never spend all of it. With being able to draw some of it out, I can use it in ports or even towards future sailings :D :D

Go to casino cashier. Get as much as you would like. No reason needed.

Really? For some reason I wasn't required to prepaid gratuities even though I chose mtd. I have an obc and would like to use that towards tips. Is it certain that I won't be able to use my obc?

How do I know what's refundable vs non refundable OBC? Ours is from booking the room with RCI and the rest is our credit card

Guest service desk will provide you a breakdown of your OBC and how much is each type.

Visa OBC is refundable. Any credit given by RCL is non-refundable. Such as credit from booking onboard and all the WOW sales OBC. They will use the non refundable first.

If you go to GS onboard they can also verify for you how much of each that you have.
