We will be on the Sun Princess this Friday for 14 nights and would like to know the prices for the washing machines and dryers so as I can organise to take the correct denominations with me. Also are the washers front or top loaders? any tips on best/quietest time to use the laundry? thanks.

It's been a few years since our last cruise on one of the "3 sisters". Is it true that Princess no longer host/provide the venue for M&G's?

Anna last time i organised a m&g we had to have a min of 25 people and princess gave us a venue & time but people had to pay for their own drinks so i dont think it would have changed

been a long time since we used the laundry on princess but i think the best time would be when they first opened or when people were having dinner, you can always get change from the reception desk or the casino

The laundry tokens are $3 each. You just buy them on your cruise card. The machines don't take coins.

 

The washing machines are front-loaders.

 

Both the washing machines and dryers take about 40 minutes from memory. We did our laundry in the afternoon on port days which seemed to be fairly quiet.

found the Diamond princess thread after I posted this .so double post

So have been obsessing about my next cruise for the last few weeks ,but just window shopping . Last night took half a sleeping pill after a couple of insomniac nights decided to do a bit cruise window shopping in bed and wake up this morning to remember ..oh yes I booked a cruise . Luckily it's something I'm looking forward to and it's only 2 nights . The part that always hold me back is living in Nth Qld we have airfares to factor in ..and the pets and not leaving the teenage kids/adults home for too long..

 

Booked the Diamond Princess 2 nights boarding Brisbane on the 25th march and getting off at Sydney . I really wAnted to try out different ships rather that P&O which we have been on twice.

 

Question - what currency is used on the ship? And I notice on the princess site it says you can buy cruise credit or have it gifted to you before you leave some other forum posts are mentioning that if you buy the cruise credit before that it's purchased at $ for $ and the exchange rate does not come into it ...does anyone know if this is true for Diamond Princess. ..and if I do prepurchase cc would it be available straight away , on P&O the cruise credit often didn't appear till about the second day

 

Quite weirdly I seemed to have trouble finding this particular 2 night cruise on any other travel site other than I purchased it from

he cabin I purchased is a guaranteed Obstructed Ocean View - anyone have any experience with Princess obstructed cabins? Thanks I know it's only a two night but it's still a big deal to us .. our next cruise after this is on the Pacific Aria in December doing the Sth pacific in a balcony cabin

Machines use token bought from Pursers desk where you can also get detergent. I [read the boss] try and get there first up.

It was about $8 a day, but I can't remember if that was the basic or the next up, not sure about individual prices and I'm pretty sure Sun still uses "Gun Soda"

Reading the questions in regards to the soda package, such a shame princess doesn't have the alcohol packages....now that would save us a bomb!!:D:D

But they sell me a soft drink package, silly fools.

 

Last cruise I only just broke even, well would have if they charged 25 cents a can, that wasn't Princess though and I guess they pay under one cent a glass for the gun stuff that's about the average.

My first cruise is over a year away and I reckon I can post a question a week and I'll still have more!

 

First up, the kids' club for the 10-12 age range on Sun Princess. I know from reading reviews that it isn't the greatest whizz-bang club compared to bigger, newer ships but I'm interested to hear if it wasenough to keep others' kids happy for the majority of a cruise. And if not, what else took the fancy of kids in that age group.

 

If it makes any difference, part of the cruise is over school holidays.

 

The Sun, Dawn and Princess are sister ships so imagine kids club (Shockwaves for 10 -12 ) would be very similar on each ship. We took our 10 year old grandaughter on a 13 day cruise during the last January school holidays and she had a ball. They had a fun program with lots of variety. During school holidays Princess do put a limit on the number of children onboard but as you seem to have booked this shouldn't be a problem. Hope you have a great cruise- you will love it.

Anyone been on Sun Princess since her refit and the addition of International Cafe and a new look Horizon Court, looking forward to seeing the changes in April on our NZ cruise.

The International cafe is on the lower deck of the Atrium area, deck 5 I think. It has very nice sandwiches, salads, and wicked cakes and pastries, which are all included in your fare. There is also an espresso machine for speciality coffees, and other extra cost drinks are available.

 

We used it a few times, especially for quick late lunches on port days. There is a reasonable amount of seating there - both at the side of the cafe and in the centre of the Atrium.

 

We didn't go to Horizon Court as we're not fond of buffets, and also we had a Noro outbreak on our cruise. However we did go to the Sterling Steakhouse which is situated in one side of the Horizon Court in the evenings. It looked like a reasonable layout. I think the buffet stations are on both sides, with the kitchen in the centre. We did notice that sometimes during the day they would only have one side of the Horizon Court open.

Sterling's was lovely while it was still light enough to see through the big windows, but once it got dark it had the ambiance of a hotel corridor. Also from about halfway through our main course we started hearing very loud clattering of plates coming from the kitchen. It really ruined the whole experience. The background music was awful, very bland pop music, and just a tad too loud. The food was reasonable but I won't be in a hurry to go back if I sail on Sun Princess again.

They certainly have gluten free dishes in the MDR.

 

I think some of the salads and cakes at the International cafe are gluten free.

Thanks, im all sorted for gf in the MDR, you have to advise them of that on the personalizer, was just wondering what my chances were elsewhere.
