Is this too much for a cruise?

Going to be spending $2500 for a 4 day cruise on royal caribbean.

2600 is what i will be paying to cover the cruise, 1 night hotel and flights for 3 people.

Is this too much to spend on just for a cruise? Will I be able to enjoy the cruise without spending additional money?

Note this amount does not include taxi fares, excursions, etc

What kind of cabin? Did you include the daily service charge (gratuities).

Too much depends on your budget, your income, what YOU can afford.

For me, that would be too much for that short a cruise. But we cruise on a very tight budget. For someone else that might be fine.

If you buy no drinks, no photos, no specialty dinners, then you can cruise without any onboard charges other than the daily service charge.

That works out to a little over $200/day per person which isn't unreasonable. I do wonder how you got flights for three and a hotel room for $100. Using air miles maybe?

Uh, the cruise costs 1500, the hotel+airfare are about 1000

Oops, i understand your confusion, my total spending range is about 1500-1600 thats why i accidentally wrote two numbers in my original post.

I already included tips in my costs. I will be booking cheapest room, interior with 3 people.

I don't care about drinks, photos, specialty dinners but im not sure what there is to do in cozumel without spending money.

I was going to say that "too much" is all relative to how much you earn, how precious is vacation time, and what kind of vacation makes you happy.

Your last post however indicates the money is tight and the fact that you are asking a group of strangers if it's too much suggests that you think this might be stretching your budget too far. Can you really afford to travel?

Basically, what im asking is if this is the avg price one would pay for a cruise? Its not that I cant afford it, i am just pretty frugal and i hate feeling like i got ripped off, or i could have used 2500 for a much better vacation you know?

Only you know what you can afford but keep in mind it won't be much fun for any of you if you are worried about money your whole time away. Maybe you should save a little bit longer and when you have a few extra dollars, you can really let go and enjoy an extra drink in Cozumel or an entry fee for a beach or whatever. No fun to have to worry about not have a little 'play money' during your vacation. :)

I posted the first paragraph before seeing your above post.

I don't think that is too much money to pay for what you are including in that price. We all know someone out there will tell you how they got a better price and they might have but there surely are those who paid more than what yours totals. It is a ballpark figure that is not 'outrageous.'

the reason i chose RCCL instead of Norweigan is because i heard on the norweigan breakaway, the ship was basically made to milk money out of you, is this true on RCCL?

All cruise lines give you the opportunity to spend a bundle on "extras" nowadays. NCL was the 1st, but RCi and Carnival sure have followed suit! You don't HAVE to be "nickel and dimed", if you are satisfied with the included options! The only thing we really spend additional money on are drinks!!!

So are the included options on the liberty of the seas good? for example, on the breakaway, the free pool is really small and in order to get a better pool, you have to pay more, which is ridiculous.

No ship pools are very big.;)

Don't understand by what you mean in order to get a better pool.

Bobbyster: you get what you pay for. Put the airfare aside.

Your daily rate for a cruise might be compared to hotel and meals on land.

Do you honesty think you are going to get a good hotel (not a dump) and excellent food (not Chili's or Olive Garden) for less than $200-$250/person/day MINIMUM?

We took a cab to downtown Cozumel; walked around then took a cab back to the ship. We bought nothing except the cab ride.

I don't know who you have been talking to, but I have never heard of paying more to get a better pool. So far as I know, all swimming pools on all cruise ships are free. That is true of the Breakaway as well.

Many factors will determine what your cruise fare would be. The type of cabin and location (an inside that's far forward would cost differently than one that's midships), the sailing date (a holiday cruise will cost more than one when demand is down), length of cruise, itinerary (ports have different port fees which are added to your fare). Even if you're on the same ship for two different cruises, you'll probably be charged differently.

Even flights from the same airport to the same desitination will differ.

You can sit down with a cruise specialist (a TA who specializes in cruises) with an idea of what you want to spend, where you want to go and when, etc., and hopefully the TA will get you the best cruise for you.

So the costs of a cruise will include your fare, the traveling to take your cruise, a pre-cruise hotel if you have to fly in and drive a major distance, the auto-grats. Many of the other costs are optional and up to you: drinks, specialty dinners (many of us don't bother), gambling, photographs, etc. In ports, if you really research (get a guide book and do a bit of googling), you can come up with things to do for little or no money. You're not required to even get off the ship until the disembarkation day,of course (some people will repeat a cruise for two or more times and enjoy being on the ship when there's less people). Going to a beach may mean just a taxi ride.

I did a quick calculation of our last cruise, which was a 14 day cruise for three of us at holiday time in an inside aft cabin, no flights or hotel because we're an hour's drive away, but used a transportation service to get us between home and port (but didn't need parking at the port), did two excursions, bought a few drinks, bought some photos, bought some souvenirs (but nothing expensive), took a couple of taxis -- and probably spent under $7500 (give or take another $500). But that's us. Somebody else on the same cruise could have easily spent over $10,000 for just two people. Many different factors go into planning the expense of a vacation.

All the main stream lines try to milk money out of you. You can choose to spend what you want.

On the Breakaway there is no pool you need to pay for. Do your research. I would choose the Breakaway over the older Liberty and right now NCL promo is choose an ultimate beverage package, specialty dining package or obc. For us, the beverage package worth 800 is the best deal. You just need to book an ocean view cabin or higher to get one choice. :)

My husband and I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. No matter what cruise port we choose to leave from, our airfare is always at least $1200 for the two of us.

Since we have to pay so much just to get there, the shorter voyages just don't seem to be worth doing. If we are tempted to take a certain ship/itinerary for a 4 day cruise, we will add a land vacation to the end of the cruise, such as a short cruise out of Port Canaveral, then a week in Orlando visiting the theme parks.

As explanation, on NCL, there is The Haven pool - for Haven guests only and then there is also an area called Vibe Beach Club (also called Posh depending on the ship) - that you pay $20 per day or $79 per week to go into - it has padded loungers and a bar and is adults only - there is a water feature and hot tubs in this area on Breakaway. You can also rent canopied round loungers as cabanas for $99 per day or $299 for the week. Then there is another adults only area called Spice H2O, but I believe that area is free.

The closest thing RCCL has to Vibe/Posh or Spice H2O would be the adults only Solarium. The pools and hot tubs are not big in the Solarium, but it is an all adult area and you don't pay extra for it.

the only person who can answer that is YOU.

I routinely spend twice that( for 2 of us) and don't bat an eye over the cost, plus have another bill at the end of the cruise anywhere from $100-1000.

prices start at $100 per person per day for the cruise portion alone and only go up from there. itinerary, ship, time of year all play a part on the cost.

again, the only one who can decide if this is a good value is YOU as it is YOUR money.
