Lulubelle45 Posted October 19, 2016 #501 Share Posted October 19, 2016 Whilst I agree that some of the prices are just plain silly there would appear to be plenty within the $15 range to try. And as someone who has never had a drinks package before, I intend to make it my mission to try as many as possible 'hic':D:D And thats exactly what i did, missed a few so will have to go back lol Sent from my SM-T350 using Forums mobile app

Also, wondering if the drinks you posted (like the rum cake or Espresso Martini) could be "brought under the threshold" by requesting a lower quality Vodka or rum. Any more pics out there? Thanks! spidybabe Posted October 24, 2016 #515 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Chocolate martini was, no longer. I believe it was a $2.95 upcharge. Oh but so good Safe sailing Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Forums mobile app
JustPlainMike Posted October 24, 2016 #516 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Love that one too! Is it "covered" with the UBP??? According to the latest menu I've seen, dated 7/16, the D&S is $17.95. So it would cost $2.95 + 18% gratuity on the UBP from everything I've read on here. Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk

mbruck Posted October 24, 2016 #519 Share Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) I think I'm beginning to understand - a few of these drinks now have "standard recipes" per NCL that use top level liquor that would currently (I think) not be included on the UBP. Something tells me that if I ask the bartender to make a, let's say, a chocolate martini with "well vodka", Godiva liqueur, and cream (or half and half) the cost of those ingredients would put it under the 15.95 cost threshold. Or, a "Dark and Stormy" without the top shelf rum. It wouldn't be the recipe on the menu. If they tell me "we are supposed to make it ONLY the way the menu says", after suppressing a little internal anger at NCL'S CEO, I would slip the bartender a $1 bill, and tell her or him "I'd rather pay you a dollar than 2.95 to NCL. I'm sure you can make me happy. " I'll be leaving soon on the Jade for a Transatlantic - so I'll post back here mid-November with a report, but I'm sure someone else will post before then. TheDougOut Posted October 24, 2016 #520 Share Posted October 24, 2016 Regarding the Dark & Stormy... Love that one too! Is it "covered" with the UBP??? The following was posted in another thread, although I haven't seen it verified yet... Get this, Dark and Stormies are now back and included in the UBP but no other drinks made with Goslings. Apparently Bermuda put up a stink about it and NCL made an exception for the Dark and Stormy. I had them in September. Also Grey Goose is included but not the flavored Grey Goose Vodkas(strange). my3sonsnj Posted October 24, 2016 #521 Share Posted October 24, 2016 I want to thank everyone for all the drink recommendations and posts :) I have printed the pdf for my upcoming cruise!!! I'm not sure what all of the complaints are about with the UBP. Every cruise line has a maximum drink price and exclusions for these beverage plans. Honestly, I have shopped around and the NCL weekly charge of less $100, with what is included, is by far the best deal in the industry right now given their cabin prices. Carnival's cabin prices are cheaper but the drink package is an add on. The rest of the cruiselines, that are picking up on NCL's success with Freestyle choices, are offering "free" drink packages but their cabin pricing is greater. This is still a great deal :D Yes, unit pricing changes over time. But that happens everywhere in order for businesses to profit. I remember when my kids were babies and I was buying diapers in bulk. Every two or three months, the diaper count in the bulk package would decrease to keep the prices stable. That is what is happening here.
luckyinpa Posted October 24, 2016 #522 Share Posted October 24, 2016 i asked john at the atrium bar on the BA to make a banana banshee. he said it took him back to years past and had to ask the other guy how to make it. so if you want to challenge them, ask for one :)
mbruck Posted December 1, 2016 #523 Share Posted December 1, 2016 Reporting back from my Transatlantic on the NCL Jade - many bars had "premade" giant carafes for certain cocktails, and I was only rejected once on the cruise to a "please stick to the menu" request by a bartender at the martini bar when I asked for the "cagney's speakeasy martini" on a particularly busy night at the martini bar. I did not have a "prior relationship" with that bartender, though, so if I really really wanted to I could have taken the elevator up 6 floors or so to the "star bar" which is right next to cagney's and could have got one - or I could have found my "favorite waiter" Phillip in the upstairs lounge (who I made sure to grease with an extra dollar the first few days each time I ordered a drink) and I am sure he would have accommodated me. Some of the premade stuff isn't bad - mostly in the frozen sweet drinks. But to avoid it elsewhere, I found no premade carafes in ..... the casino, of course. The bartenders there were knowledgeable and made stuff fresh when I was there. I am also sure that prior greasing of a specific bartender would (most likely) get you the drink you want. Sent from my SM-N900V using Forums mobile app I agree - thought the offerings were pretty poor on Jade TA - if it wasn't on their menu - you couldn't get it - Also - despite paying extra for chocolate and espresso martinis - we doubted their alcohol content - I requested TWO cubes of ice- and the main alcohol to be brought separate - otherwise we found a tumbler of iced up rubbish. Wine was the best bet all round - at least you knew you were getting. Cosmos weren't too bad - but it took greasing a few palms in the outdoor bars to be able to get one.. Staff told us they can no longer go off the menu - that their bars are stocked to provide for the menu - which in 12 months - has been reduced dramatically in every bar. Stick to simple drinks like a spirit and a mixer and you are fine - the cocktails and martinis are pretty rubbish.. I went on to Jack Honey - asked for 2 x cubes of ice, and the lemonade on the side - that worked for me - the regular "Honey Lemonade" was a pile of iced fizz... Still feel its great value for money - just need to get wise to the tricks of the trade ;)
