What does not get old for you?

I agree with susancruzs. We've been cruising for years and look forward to every one!!! It just never gets old. We've thought about doing "all-inclusives" but I fear the hubby would be bored. Add to that the fact that we live in Michigan where its currently 1 degree below zero.

Donating to much money to the casino. Oh, wait, that's not right. That gets real old, real fast.:(

Seriously, what doesn't get old. First and foremost when hubby and I put the phones away and the 'real' world disappears. We are officially on vacation, off the grid and totally relaxed.

Other things we love are Quest, Love & Marriage, MDR and getting to meet new folks. And LOVE the balcony at night enjoying the breeze and ocean before we go to bed.

As a frequent cruiser (almost D+), we have a lot of "Been there, done that" moments on every cruise. Like I can happily nap through the Belly Flop contest and ice carving demonstrations. Can miss the Welcome Show and Love and Marriage.

There are a few things that don't get old for me. For instance, the 70's dance party on the Promenade. Yes, it's the same every time, but I always make it a point to go and enjoy the music and dancing.

So for you experienced cruisers out there, what are some of your been there, done thats and what are some of your never gets old?

Totally agree with the 70s Party! Also Quest. Towel animals - LOVE LOVE LOVE 'EM. Being called "Miss Printingchick" - makes me feel like a celebrity. Ordering anything on the menu and not having to look at prices. Having my room serviced more than once per day. Looking out the window and seeing THE SEA! Dressing up for formal nights. There are not many opportunities to go on a dress-up dinner-date.

As I go on, I'm realizing that NONE of it gets old except having to pack up the last night and rush off the ship early in the morning.

When you notice the ship is actually moving on boarding day. You're not 100% sure at first but... Yup! You're under way!

Love that!

Plus the sunsets from the balcony. I also like being on the balcony at night when all you can see are the stars and glimpses of the whitecaps as the ship cuts through the water.

...That moment when the luggage is all unpacked....big sigh.... let the relaxation begin.

Bingo - doesn't matter what ship or cruise line - that is the moment you know you can relax :D

The smell of the Schooner bar...

We've only been on one RCL ship, Radiance of the Seas, but I do remember the fragrance of the Schooner bar. It definitely had the smell of an old sailing ship. Loved it.

It's gotta be the moment you taste that first sip of champagne as you look over the railing at the departure port slipping away. Then the secondary moment when the ship's horn blasts and the sound goes right through you taking with it the worries and stress.

...and you don't even care that you are wearing the rest of your glass of champagne from being startled, lol:D

When the Captain blows the horn leaving Port ..love it! I sometimes even get chills. My second thing that never gets old is sitting alone on my balcony when everyone is still asleep in the cabin staring out at the sea with a cup of coffee in my hand......pure bliss :)

The anticipation and the excitement when you see the ship for the first time.

No cooking, cleaning, washing!!

Me time, on a cruise I can do what I want to do, no work, shopping, household chores to get in the way!!

We live in the UK, so in the Caribbean its the warmth that I really enjoy!!

Being outside at the highest point when the ship goes under the Skyway Bridge. Give or take fog

I've only done it once, but that is enough to appreciate the concept. If you search youtube for JEWEL SUNSHINE SKYWAY BRIDGE and sort by upload date, look for one by wmccall around April or May of 2012, I did a video in HD of going under that bridge. It turned out well and it looks great on a big screen if your TV can access youtube.

Yes, this one too!

I'll be taking my daughter and her friend on Liberty in less than 2 weeks. My daughter hasn't sailed on a Freedom class ship yet, and hasn't been on a cruise since 2010. Her friend hasn't cruised before. I'm so excited to see their faces when we board the ship!

I can appreciate this one as well. Normally its just my wife and I cruising, but I did get a big kick out of her reaction to Allure. I had studied and knew the layout by heart even though I'd never been on it. She had no idea till we walked on board.

We have cruised with a couple of friends twice, but when we did it was Jewel twice and Majesty once. While that was nice, I was looking forward to going on Freedom with them and seeing their reaction. But they had to cancel. :(

I still have that great sense of anticipation walking up the gangway to board a ship. Even when it's a ship I've been on before, I still have butterflies in my stomach.:)

I always look forward to walking onto the ship for the first time, always takes my breath away.

Also, Sail Away, especially when they blow the ships horn!

And taking in the ocean from the balcony at night - the smell of the ocean, the sound of the waves, the stars!!

Can't imagine that will ever get old.

Initially I thought this thread sounded somewhat simplistic, but as read messages like this and others, I am appreciating it more. It helps that temps are headed to zero again tonight and I'm less than 60 days from my 11th cruise.

I love seeing the ship for the first time. In Miami that means climbing the hill up the bridge and seeing the port. In Port Everglades it usually is seeing it from the hotel, or other ships when I fly in the day before.

But as you mentioned stepping on the ship. I can actually feel the border as you step from the gangway onto the ship much the way I would have to imagine a prisoner feels leaving the gates of the prison. I/we really do leave the rest of the world behind.

parking that cell phone in the safe - you are dismissed from the muster drill.

standing on the balcony watching the ship cut through the waves (flying fish!)

full moon shining on the water

knowing I have my Honey all to myself (afternoon "naps" ;))

standing on the deck while the ship comes in to a port.

PS Cozumel Shuffle is not near as much fun anymore since pedicabs became available...

Good post. I know not everyone can do it, but cut myself off from the outside world phone and internet, I love that. I've not experienced the flying fish, but my wife did on the bow for our last Jewel Cruise. Something new for me to watch for.

I haven't heard of the pedicabs at Cozumel. When I was in Cozumel on Navigator our balcony was facing the pier and those of us on our side and the balconies of the ship next to us really enjoyed cheering/jeering the really late arrivals. That was when Navigator sailed out of Port Everglades.

My last time at Cozumel was 2012 on Jewel and that time the Captain changed the ships time to match the port time the day before so I think that helped. I was actually up on the bow then ready to take pictures of the late staggerers. But this lady was the last to board and she made it with 10 minutes to spare before the scheduled all aboard time.

Labadee sailaway.

I've done it twice, but both times were with a tender port. This time 59 days from now will be my first time back since 2008. I know Freedom does an upper tier sail away from the bow from Labadee. It varies on who gets invited. On that day I will technically be Emerald, but I will have enough days to be Diamond at that point. I sure hope we get invited to that sailaway. (we did on Jewel as Emerald.

I never get tired of formal nights.... I know I am in the minority, but I love to put on a gown and see DH in a tux and then get a drink and people watch.:)

I just wanted to say, yes you may be in the minority and we almost never go "to the 9s" any more, I respect those that do.

I came to this thread late, so I am bombing it with so many replies that I am agreeing to. This is another one. I am also a port web cam junkie. I'll admit to getting the same chill when I hear it on the webcam. :o
