I apologize for my skepticism about smoke infiltration

Recommended Posts

The smoke is really bad on Grandeur also. It drifts out in clouds from the casino into the Centrum so as soon as you get off the mid-ship elevators on that deck you smell the smoke.

I love to play slots in the ship casino and find that now I cannot stay in there except maybe very early in the morning. It still stinks of smoke from the day before but there are not as many smokers in there early in the morning. If they have to have an indoor smoking area why can't it be one of the bars and not the casino? In the last couple of years since they started this smoking only in the casino I know they have lost a lot of money that I would have lost in the casino!

Hoping in the near future that smoking will only be allowed outside. But if they do this they should provide a comfortable seating area for the smokers with a bar nearby.

Really???? Wow, I just looked it up.

Time for me to explore Celebrity. DH could get his blackjack in and wouldn't have to bag his clothes and decontaminate before entering the stateroom.

It makes a HUGE difference. Celebrity does have a couple of outdoor smoking areas that are easily avoided. The interior of the ship is pristine. Their bars/lounges are also really nice, lots of live music, and i think the food is quite a bit better than RCCL. So try it...you might really like it!

I was also raised in a smoking household and can't STAND it now. We stayed out of the casino and adjoining areas on Indy because of the stench.

Mollyeilis - I am right there with you. Whenever I'm near smoke I have to figure out a way to both hold my breath AND breathe at the same time. My left nostril is the one that is most affected. The burning sensation starts and travels up the left side of my head so I have to press it closed which looks very weird. Then it starts my nose to running and I have to always have tissue handy. Makes it look like I'm sick when I'm not. People ask me if I have a cold and I have to tell them "No just allergic to smoke." They feel like jerks then I feel like a jerk for mentioning it but hey, they asked. It also makes me sneeze which is just great on a ship where everyone is worried about catching something from another passenger. I promise you you can not catch what I have. MCS (Multiple Chemical Sensitivity) is not contagious. Believe me I wish I could give it away and be done with it lol!

This is one major reason I give Celebrity the edge over RCCL.

Spent a great week on the Silhouette where there was no smoking anywhere inside...including the casino! We actually got to enjoy blackjack and slots in a smoke free environment...it was great!

:) We enjoyed the Solstice in '09 it too was great!

Definitely would like to see RCCL take this approach. Non-smoking areas in the casinos don't mean too much when they are big open rooms.

But I'd end up staying longer if there was no smoking and donate more to the slot machines so maybe better to leave it as is.

For an occasional cigar smoker, Celebrity's S Class has the perfect set-up, port side aft. The smoke just drifts off the back of the ship.

The worst ship I have ever been on regarding the smell of smoke is Quantum. The casino is directly below the centrum and there is a circular staircase that acts like a funnel directing all the smoke upwards into this area. It's a design disaster. People use the casino as a smoke hole, 24/7.

true... they sit at the entrances and puff.

I am so disappointed to hear this. There is no hope if they build a brand new ship and haven't addressed the smoke issue. So frustrating.:(

After boarding the Allure I was walking around checking the ship out. I walked in to the gym and seriously thought there was a fire onboard someplace. It was so smokey in there. I hadn't read on here that others noticed the smell of smoke in there so I wasn't purposely seeking it out.

Fortunately (unfortunately for my waistline) that was the only time I was in the gym so I don't know if it was bad the whole cruise or just when I happened to check it out.

If they give us back an indoor smoking bar or lounge...you can have the casino back. No one really wants that to be the designated indoor smoking area, but balconies are off limits and there are often gale force winds outside.

I'm a smoker and prefer the Celebrity policy---to the gale winds point--a simple wind break on an outside deck would handle that--such as on the Irish ferries--which often sail in lousy weather---the casino should be non smoking--jmho

The "ridiculous" thing (to me), Karen, is that on the Quantum, rather than having a true ventilation system that REMOVES and FILTERS the air, they just blast the airconditioning. So now you are breathing smoke AND freezing!

And, the AC comes from outlets from under the tables. It blows right on your lap! I could not believe it when a dealer told me, but when I checked I found it is true.

I had wondered if banning balcony smoking would make the casino the "designated smoking area". Apparently it has but, we were on the Grandeur in Oct. and I didn't see any clouds.;):)

This seems like a good compromise for the smokers. In addition, have a door on the area that is kept closed to contain most of the smoke rather than having it drift.

We cruised recently from Australia & were very pleasantly surprised that there is no smoking in the casino. It seems that the ships comply with the laws of the countries they depart from. There were still a couple of outdoor smoking zones, one of which was annoyingly near the pool & beside the soft serve machine, near the entrance to the Windjammer. But at least I felt comfortable walking through the casino

All of our other cruises left from Europe or UK, where they allowed smoking in the casino. On Independence it definitely penetrated from the casino to the promenade. Apparently cruises leaving from Asia allow smoking in many more areas. The staff should not have to work in such conditions.

How's the smell from smoke on Enchantment? Going in July. Just curious. We're taking all of our kids and grandkids so we'll mostly be by the pool except in the evenings.

We were on it last month and I had no problem with it. I think a lot of times, if you try hard enough to smell the smoke you find the smell.

Don't they have ceiling mount "Smoke Eaters". They are VERY effective.

I do not agree. Years ago when smoking was permitted in public buildings, we had one installed in an office that I shared with other officials. It was almost completely ineffective. I was the only smoker out of the five.

In 2013 we sailed on independence out of UK and there was no smoking in side even in the casino, it was great to not have to breath second hand smoke

last year we sailed on a venture ou of UK and smoking was allowed in the casino, which meant the smoke came out of all entrances to the casino, up the spiral onto the prom etc, hence it made using the bars adjoining the casino no go areas

this year we ail on anthem out of UK, I hope there is no smoking in the casino, as it seems quantum has problems with smoke spying out to adjoining areas. :(

Yes we do use Celebrity and it's fantastic having smoke free inside the ship,

Why don't they allow people to book smoking balconies? Where all a

smoking balconies are Al together.

We sail with royal, because we like the new ships but we would like them to be smoke free inside

They can work if they're the right size and installed properly. I'm an occasional cigar smoker and have been to cigar bars where you didn't come out smelling like a chimney. Of course none were on cruise ships. The worst was Caribbean Princess. We lasted about ten minutes before we were putting out the cigars and seeking fresh air.

Ah, this makes total sense. It's the fault of the people who happen

to smell non existent smoke. we should pity those poor fools.

Enchantment, I believe wouldn't be as bad as other vision class ships because the extension put Bolaros in between the casino and the centrum, but bolaros can be a bit smokey in the evenings. Now the theater in enchantment? Can't tell you, didn't go to many shows. Enchantment's casino is terrible though. People treat it like a gambling cruise and do nothing but smoke and gamble fir three days. Ugh. The table limits are even double every other RC ship because of this.

I'm on Liberty right now. I did the 5-night ending March 5, and now am on the 4-night. When I walked into the cabin on Feb 28, I knew right away that the previous occupant(s) had been smoking in the cabin. The room attendant had to spritz the cabin twice a day for 3 days before it wasn't so obvious. He certainly wouldn't admit that he knew they were smoking. He must have known when he came in to clean.

It really disappointed me because he's part of the policy makers, and he knows that smoking is banned in cabins and on balconies, and somehow he allowed it to happen. It's hard enough for passengers to get cooperation from staff when they smell cigarette smoke wafting from balconies.

I suppose as long as smoking is legal, it will always be a topic of good vs evil. Hopefully someday we won't need to have these discussions and everything will smell pleasant!
