Call Me Crazy, but $ Is Not Budging!

OP, I am curious why you are even looking at price drops thinking you will get one when you only booked 4 weeks ago and you cruise in 43 days.:confused: You are not eligible for a price drop since there is no way you booked ES.

Exactly. Nobody else caught this. Unless the OP is booked on another cruise further out than the one in their signature, there would be no price drops.

I think it all really depends not just on when you are sailing, but really what room you are in.

I booked in January for our August cruise. Price for our room has gone up close to $300 at this point.

Carnival cruise I booked 17 months in advance on 1st week of December sailing only went up also. By the time the last room in our category sold out it was $900 more for 4 people than what we paid.

I either just pick the best times to book, or Carnival has decided everyone who is sailing with me is just SOL on price drops :p I for one don't worry about it to much since well, I just have given up on seeing a price drop ever from ES!

WTH?????

Why does someone book a cruise expecting a price drop:confused:

We book our VACATION, at a price we are willing to pay and if we get a little extra:D;)

I have received over $100 in price drops since booking our cruise 5 1/2 weeks ago. I check every day. I don't do a mock booking. Go to Google and do a search for carnival Fare Viewer. Put in your cruise info and then it will show you the various categories and the special offers. It's the easiest way. :)

In January we booked on Fantasy for Oct 11. That is the first stop Fantasy will make to Amber Cove, Dominican Republic, Half Moon Cay and Grand Turk. (Awesome itinerary MHO). Booked for $444. Next day it went up and continues to climb. Today it was $689. We booked on early saver but doesn't appear we will get to use it.

So, I am wondering did we book to close to our sail date to expect much of a change? But then I thought maybe prices would lower as the cruise draws near.

RCmommy, it seems that since your cruise is so close, you aren't eligible for price drops on it (usually the ability to take advantage of the drops- if they happen- has a cut-off date at the Final Payment date for your cruise). Since your cruise is so soon, and the Final Payment/cut-off date has likely been met, it is my understanding that you wouldn't be eligible to take advantage of any price drops.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...? :)

You are eligible for price drops up to your final payment due date with most rates. Only with early saver are you eligible longer - up to two days before your sail date. That rate is for booking early - at least 4 months out. They do sometimes have "early saver last call" rates but that's 3 months or more out.

If the OP booked an April cruise just a few weeks ago, full payment would have been due at that time. It couldn't have possibly been an early saver booking. Therefore no price drops. You can't book within a couple of months yet still get the advantages of booking early.

I booked under a "last chance ES" offer on my next cruise in May, which was well into the normal time that ES disappears. Glad, because I've already gotten $120 back. There were also offers where final payment wasn't until 30 days out, so it is still possible to get price drops within 75 days even if you didn't book far out and get ES.

OP you should be happy with your rate. Sounds like you got a deal.

Thanks for sharing this! The only problem is that it doesn't show past guest promotion prices - am I missing something? (I did check the box for past guest.)

If you read the last paragraph of the OP's post you will have your answer.

I caught that too but since they have a special offer where they don't make final payment until 30 days before the cruise, I wasn't sure how all that worked as far as price drops go on that deal.

Anybody know for sure? can you still cancel with no penalty since final payment hasn't been made?

Just like everything else in a free market economy, it is all based on supply and demand. If there is excess inventory (the demand is low), the price will be lower. If there is not enough inventory (the demand is high), the price will be higher.

Right now, depending on which economists you listen to, our economy is humming along relatively well, the Dollar is up and oil prices are down, giving people extra income and the ability to splurge. So demand is up and so is the pricing power of the cruise lines. If the economy tanks and oil sky rockets and people can't afford to travel as much, demand will drop along with prices.

I was thinking the same thing. If there is a price drop, the OP isn't eligible and more than likely will be upset that it wasn't given.

Those who are posting about price drops are either those with ESA or those who are before final payment. After FP unless it's within the 48 hours of booking, price drops mean nothing.

I booked a cruise 2 days ago with my TA. Yesterday I checked the fare viewer and price was the same, but for ever reason, I decided to do a mock booking and it showed a casino offer that was almost $200 less than I paid. Contacted my TA and had confirmation with an hour.:D From now on I will do a mock booking. Cruise is in Sept.

You also have to do a mock booking for Military offers.

It should show you the best rates. Often the aren't past guest rates I've noticed.

Our final payment is not due until March 27th.

So, I read so much about price drops and such I am beginning to wonder what I am doing wrong.

I have been checking our cruise prices daily since booking (4 weeks ago)-sometime twice a day and they have not budged!

Okay, once, the price was $10 less per person, but when I went through the mock booking and choose the cabin etc, the end price was the same.

I mean right down the cents.

So, I am wondering did we book to close to our sail date to expect much of a change? But then I thought maybe prices would lower as the cruise draws near.

I did not book this cruise counting on the hope there would be one, I just find it pretty amazing the price has not moved when I read so many others posting about it. I suppose those people booked months or even a year or more in advance, right?

Did you book under early saver ? Because if you didn't I don't think you can get a price adjustment.

I asked earlier but nobody answered.

Why can't you get a price reduction if she hasn't reached final payment yet?

Are there special rules for the promotion she boooked as far as price reductions go.

I can't find the rules for her promo on the CCL website.

You can get a price adjustment until final payment. Too many people are jumping to the wrong conclusion because they don't have all the facts.

I never book a cruise and expect the price to go down. I book a cruise to go on that cruise regardless of a price drop or not. I rarely do a mock to see if the price has gone down. I just did a mock one of our upcoming Alaskan cruise and the price has gone up $500 per person! If I had waited until now to book, I would be paying more and the cabin/deck is all sold out.

BTW, our Alaskan cruise is one of those 3 for free deals and an onboard credit of $300. If I had waited to book it, I would have missed out on this deal. Even if the price went down $25 I wouldn't have bothered to get a better deal.
