nytolv Posted March 19, 2015 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Can you use your onboard credit to play, and can you then cash in your unused chips for cash
Phxazzcruisers Posted March 19, 2015 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2015 Yes, but you will have to pay a 5% or 6% fee to get cash at the casino from your OBC.
BBMacLaird Posted March 19, 2015 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2015 I have just verified the policy with HQ: Only "Refundable OBCs" can be used in the Casino, and there is a 5% fee to do so.

Rare travelberlin Posted March 20, 2015 #5 Share Posted March 20, 2015 If the OBC we receive on board is non refundable, then the question is how to use it. Overpriced excursions? Maybe...Buying things we do not need from the scarce sortiment of the shops? Drinking more expensive wines, which we also do not particularly need? Well I think we would be prefer a cash discount instead of a non refundable OBC. But nobody asked what we prefer right?
minz56 Posted March 20, 2015 #6 Share Posted March 20, 2015 .... But nobody asked what we prefer right? Actually last year Bonnie did a poll to find out what promotions people would like to see. Here's the link to the thread: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2053272&highlight=perks As you will see OBC was the least favourite! excitedofharpenden Posted March 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2015 They had a $1000 per double occupancy stateroom OBC offer when I booked onboard in February. I won't be able to use it efficiently so it's really not much of an incentive. Not my favourite, even at that level. I did book a cruise though because it had an "expo saving" code on it of near £600. I still don't know what it was and it wasn't offered to an American friend of mine who booked at the same time. It's all very confusing, but on this occasion I was happy, for me at least. Phil
Rare Familygoboston Posted March 23, 2015 #9 Share Posted March 23, 2015 So I am assuming the OBC given by the cruise line is NOT refundable?

emel Posted March 23, 2015 #11 Share Posted March 23, 2015 So I am assuming the OBC given by the cruise line is NOT refundable? What does qualify as refundable, one from a TA? Mary Lou
Henk123 Posted March 23, 2015 #12 Share Posted March 23, 2015 OBC is good for the internet use onboard then
BBMacLaird Posted March 23, 2015 #13 Share Posted March 23, 2015 What does qualify as refundable, one from a TA? Mary Lou Hi emel, the only OBC's that are refundable are those that are actually purchased, using cash, typically as a gift for someone sailing. Sometimes, actually most times, they are purchased by a travel professional for their client(s). But they can also be purchased by friends, family, co-workers, etc., as a Bon Voyage gift. All other OBC's are 'credit' and hold no cash value, i.e., not refundable. I hope this clarifies. Bonnie
LuAnn Posted June 6, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 6, 2015 So then the $250.00 OBC we receive as stock-holders is considered "non-refundable" as well? LuAnn

Grandma Cruising Posted June 7, 2015 #16 Share Posted June 7, 2015 On our last cruise we had $1000 non refundable OBC. We used it for wifi and for excursions that we wouldn't normally have booked, including one very expensive one in Mumbai that included lunch at the Taj Mahal hotel. We rarely pay for ship's excursions, but having the OBC meant we went to places we would not have got to on our own, so overall we felt that it was a good promotion for us. I agree with this 100%. The large OBC I have for 2016 will allow me to have the Internet access I need and also allow me to splurge a little bit on nice wines, champagne, massages, shore excursions etc. It's all about having a good time :)
tv24 Posted June 10, 2015 #18 Share Posted June 10, 2015 Interesting thread and thank you everyone for your responses. We have a lot of OBC on a crossing in November on AZ due to a promotion in which AZ awarded lots of people lots of OBC. Since it is a crossing, there are not a lot of options for using in on excursions. And since we are in a suite, we don't need OBC to book dining in the specialty restos. I think we will use a lot of it on internet, since AZ is pretty cheap on offering internet minutes to frequent travelers. Still we might have some left over, so that leaves the spa and the gift shops as options. Sorta makes the promotion of OBC a bit irrelevant. What do you think? gazzagirl Posted June 11, 2015 #19 Share Posted June 11, 2015 We have a lot of on board credit for our cruise coming up this July. We plan on upgrading our drink packages, book specialty restaurants, and a few shore excursions. With what is leftover I'm thinking caviar and champagne! I have no problem ever using up free money.
