paulh84 Posted March 20, 2015 #26 Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) On LOS in February there was definitely a St. Tropez deck forward on the pool deck then up a level, which I believe would have been on top of the spa and gym. The gold card area was separate, above Sky Bar. There were no topless signs however there was a big wooden cartoon cut out of a topless lady with a St. Tropez sign across her bits and pieces. There was literally never anyone up there because it was extremely windy but it sure seemed it was allowed in that area. Rare John&LaLa Posted March 20, 2015 #27 Share Posted March 20, 2015 Quantum did not have a St. Tropez deck and I assume Anthem will not either. So far the St. Tropez area where there was occasionally topless sunbathing on Voyager and Freedom class ships forward above deck 12, mostly in Europe, has been removed when they took the deck space on the front of the ship to install new staterooms, when Navigator, Freedom, Voyager and now Explorer were revitalized. Adventure, Liberty and Mariner will have that space taken away in 2016 and 2017 most likely. The only ship where they seem to have not taken out St. Tropez at that point appears to be Indy. They didn't get rid of it, they made it bigger. :D This is Freedom

Merion_Mom Posted March 20, 2015 #29 Share Posted March 20, 2015 The cruise is out of Southampton and going to the canary islands.we'll have to play it by ear really. We're going to the beach every day, so my partner will probably just do it there and on the balcony. Not in another punters cabin either lol CANARY ISLANDS???? You can't avoid topless beaches THERE! Full nudity sometimes. Forget the ship; enjoy the ports. ;)
MADflyer Posted March 20, 2015 #30 Share Posted March 20, 2015 They didn't get rid of it, they made it bigger. :D This is Freedom That is not a photo of St. Tropez, but of a large open sun deck that was needed to replace all of the deck chairs located all around the front of the ship on deck 12. St. Tropez was eliminated to make way for this open sun deck and anyone who frequented that deck knows this is in no way similar to what was taken away. I have not sailed Freedom, but have been on Liberty for a TA and several sailings in Europe and am glad I experienced the ship prior to the revitalization. I fully understand why RCI need to make more open deck space with all the added staterooms on these revitalized ships.

Was there all the time growing up and our house was in a Scandinavian zone and I never heard the term, 'topless sunbathing', it was just 'sunbathing.' ehfl Posted March 20, 2015 #32 Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) We're travelling on Anthem on the 22nd of may.is topless bathing allowed on the top deck does anyone know ? or is it a little prudish on board ? It's unlikely. Look for a sign that says "St. Tropez Deck". That's the topless deck on Royal Caribbean, but is not on every ship on every sailing. If there is a topless deck, there will be a sign similar to the one in the link below. It's a temporary sign they put up if there is a topless deck. https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=7145ade79bb6c89d&id=7145ADE79BB6C89D%214266&v=3&ithint=photo,.jpg&authkey=!AIPATKWryaJ9pAo Considering that many ships leave out of South Florida where there are plenty of topless and clothing optional beaches, and visit places like St. Maarten where it's common, I've never understood why it's the exception on Royal rather than the standard. It would avoid a lot of confusion if they simply designated a small area on every ship, at least for Bahamas and Caribbean sailings (probably would not be popular in Alaska). Why do you think it has been eliminated. I believe it just got bigger. It is still isolated and under utilized, perfect for the requirements needed

It is still isolated and under utilized, perfect for the requirements needed Ship facilities are not used the same by everyone. St. Tropez was frequented heavily by those that used the spa and forward whirlpools on decks 11 and 12.While topless sunbathing was allowed, this was not the reason it was so popular with some passengers. It was an 'oasis' from the masses. Now it is a potential 'destination' for the masses, with the current layout. While the deck below had most traffic forward on the ship, the flow of the deck would now give them incentive to visit this area.

I'm on board next month and will happily check this out and get back to you. I've certainly seen 'St Tropez' decks on other ships but who knows! Rotherham_Cruiser Posted March 20, 2015 #37 Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) My wife once had a member of staff berating her for going topless. GUT2407 Posted March 20, 2015 #40 Share Posted March 20, 2015 When we sailed on the Liberty in 2009 out of Fort Lauderdale there was an area for topless sunbathing. I know this because I accidentally brought my 14 year old son up there. I haven't heard of an area on Anthem, but I could be wrong. Bet that lead to one happy 14 year old. P&O Lynn Knickers Posted March 20, 2015 #41 Share Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) .is topless bathing allowed on the top deck does anyone know ? or is it a little prudish on board ? To my knowledge there is no topless deck on any Royal Caribbean ship. There are restricted public topless bathing areas on Royal Caribbean. Check with the cruise compass for locations. But take it, from someone who goes topless on most cruises, there are areas on board that you can go topless. I am friends with some of the officers, and am allowed to use the crew deck, where being topless is not an issue. There are always the usual Holy marys around, so ignore any comments that are critical of your decision to be topless. Ask and it will happen. Hopefully that helps. I've noticed that you're from the EU. I imagine that Europeans tend to be more relaxed about that. I think the OP was asking about ships leaving from North American ports. EDIT: Nevermind. I see now that AOTS is homeported in Southampton, England at the time. D'oh! Edited March 20, 2015 by Tunkhannock Can't read the OP's post right the first time, apparently. Will find out in June I guess. BTW, if you look at my photo, not to many lounge chairs up there. Curious how Navigator looks now
