Are there other gay cruises out there?

Bengant Posted December 6, 2018 #332 Share Posted December 6, 2018 Hello everyone. My partner, Christopher and I (RD) and I are on the Emerald Princess 18 Jan 2019 to Hawaii. Has anyone for an LGBT roll call for it by chance? Also, first time Princess so anything we should know about being a gay couple sailing with them? We have taken part in the FOD on other cruise lines and really enjoyed meeting other LGBT+ people. RD

We have done a few Cruises, our Anny one will be on Grandeur in April 2019 to Bermuda (love that place). I will say that Royal has NEVER disrespected our community EVER. The only thing I would say is that, there have been posting for meets ... Most of the time peeps never showed at them. We usually meet other folks in the casino or in smoking areas or at the bar. The Company and the Crew (Royal) has always respected us. Many times if the crew would see me would ask "Where's your other half?" or some form of respectful courtesy to us as a couple.

Oh we missed you on the Symphony TA we cancelled last minute due to work requirements. We did a cruise from NZ back to Sydney with Majestic Princess instead. We will do 50th Royal Birthday with Symphony on Nov 2019.

zitsky Posted December 26, 2018 #340 Share Posted December 26, 2018 Quite a good size group on the first day of the LGBT meetup on the Sun. Most or all men. Not so many last night but we had a nice conversation with someone we met before. And we have seen a few people around the ship.
redcardms Posted December 28, 2018 #341 Share Posted December 28, 2018 Hi, I am hoping to get some peoples thoughts on this. I am a 56 year old recent widower. Even as a married person my thoughts were always on a same sex relationship. My wife and I loved cruising and I am now considering a solo cruise. Does anyone have any thoughts on which line would be the best for me to at least reach out to this community and possibly explore who I am and if this might be the right direction in my current life. I am not comfortable at this time speaking to people I know, but am really curious if this is a good way to be more at ease. I am not looking for any kind of relationship but more on getting some opinions. Thank you

Thank you Not at all sure cruising is the best venue for such exploration, unless you are talking about a charter cruise. I often travel solo. I have and I have traveled with my lesbian daughter and her girl friend (I am a lesbian). The gay get togethers are rather hit or miss. Sometimes really great, and sometimes I have never found the group. The mass market cruise lines all seem generally gay friendly. . . . as much as they are liberal friendly. You will always find someone who is a problem, especially if you look. But mostly it is all very comfortable these days. That being said, almost EVERYONE in the gay groups is traveling as a couple. There are usually far more men than women. . . which makes being solo a bit easier. I don't mind hanging with the gay guys at times, and clearly i'm no threat. Some groups have been really great, some have been 20 people, but mostly more like 8 or ten. And as I said almost exclusively couples. Norwegian has been the best for even having the gay group coalesce (Friends of Dorothy. . . meets at 6 or 7, pm check the Dailies). I've not found the groups on Royal Caribbean nor on Carnival. Good luck.

I am more interested in seeing the dynamics of this lifestyle. Of course if I met another single person, who knows.

Of course if I met another single person, who knows. There are mixed cruises out there which makes it more difficult to know who is what versus a charter cruise. BUT it does increase the possibilities while remaining Anonymous versus a Charter. MEETMEONBOARDdotCOM has a calendar of some cruises (mixed and charter) that can help steer/direct/guide. Celebrity cruise line I hear has more dynamics for the lifestyle . We have not been on a Celebrity, we have only done Carnival and Royal Caribbean. That being said, as a couple (married) we really have not put a high level of requirement on other gay people. If they are there we social if they are not, no biggie. Thank you As others mentioned above nothing conclusive and based on our exeperience some are hit and miss for LGBT gathering. When we did Celebrity in Japan it was great LGBT gatherings we met every night before dinner at the Martini Bar and other set time for other activities. Some of them became our friends for Life that we stay connected and visited each other places/countries. For Royal, we never had a problem s we found some LGBT gatherings just check the compass or the notice board. The only cruise we never found one was Asian cruise out of Singapore. We met gay friendly people and still a great cruise. For Princess Cruises, on the Patter they have an LGBT gatherings. On the first meeting a Cruise Director Staff normally host it, and then depending on the group if we want to continue meeting each other or make a separate time or plans. Happy Cruising....see you across the globe and keep us posted.
Kenito Posted December 29, 2018 #346 Share Posted December 29, 2018 (edited) redcardms: In addition to the other responses, may I also suggest the itinerary should be part of your consideration. Also, longer than 7-day cruises appeal to an older cruiser. Working guys usually don't have time for more than a 7-day cruise. Retired older couples are usual cruisers on longer cruises. I haven't been able to cruise for a few years, but fun, warm climate cruises I have found offer the best groups, and I have found Mexican Riviera to be very worthwhile. And for some reason, the 7 day Alaskan, r/t Seattle was good. Haunt this site for small gay groups, as part of a regular mainstream cruise. I think this is your best bet. Google "gay cruise" and you will see Bear groups that cruise annually. This allows you to be on a regular cruise and blend, but be part of the group when you want. It's not like joining a bowling league where you walk up, rent your shoes and pick out a ball, then you are in business! Plan on just joining in, being friendly, and be confidently patient. Let someone come to you for the most part. Be honest about your situation when possible. Don't be timid. If you are lucky, you will find a group organizing near you and you can go to pre-boarding events, etc. Just be present in the moment... you never know how someone will make an approach... but be open to it when it comes. I have found LGBT groups on every cruise line. Good luck! Edited December 29, 2018 by Kenito

8373seth Posted January 6, 2019 #349 Share Posted January 6, 2019 Hello from Cincinnati. We've done 12 cruises and have two booked for this year. None of them have been all-gay cruises. We are really easy in travels and seem to find fun in all types of groups. We generally book for the (1) destination and (2) value.
