Navigator - Alaska - May 1-10, 2015

Recommended Posts

Hi Ron and Angela,

I just found your "live from" - I thought you weren't leaving til the 9th. I love your reviews - you really make it seem like we are there with you. Following closely- especially shore excursion info - because I'm going on the Regatta on June 25th for a 12 day Alaska.

Hope rest of your weather is perfect.

Catherine

Hi Catherine.. glad you found us... It is surely a fascinating route.

We are sitting up on the pool deck.. we are about 1-2 hours away from the glacier area. Light clouds, but still blue skies and getting progressively chillier.

...having what may be a cup of the best hot chocolate in the Western hemisphere.

Glad to hear that the weather forecast I looked up yesterday was wrong! Also happy that you have internet. We lost it when we last were at Hubbard Glacier. Is the glacier calving? I'm sure you will get great photos!

Day 6 - Sail to Hubbard Glacier

Another clear and beautiful day... we sailed into the bay around Noon and spent two hours about 1/8th of a mile from the face of the glacier.

The sea was smooth and the sun was warm.

Right smack in the middle, a big chunk fell into the sea... noise like thunder.

The Captain slowly rotated the ship to give everyone a good view.

Just breathtaking... in any direction

Ended the day with a wonderful dinner in Sette Mare and caught the JAR Cirque show.... this one, honestly, someone in Miami should lose their job over. Well, they all can't be winners.

Tomorrow, Juneau and perhaps another glacier viewing... this time from land. We are meeting friends for lunch at Tracy's after our tour.

Lovely photographs. I am still astounded at how little snow there is and how and the glacier has receded. When I look at pictures like the last one, I remember how it used to come down to the sea - now we see bare rock. :o

Back onboard after a fun day in Juneau...

Visited Mendenhall Glacier, the fish hatchery and the rain forest gardens....

..had a marvelous crab lunch with a good friend and resident of Juneau.

Then strolled the main drag for some souvenir shopping...

..what a simply pleasant day. A bit overcast, but still temps in the 50's

Sitting out on the pool deck with a short-sleeved shirt, having an ice cream sundae.

I was just thinking that what we really need on the Explorer crossing is a really good photographer that can post the best possible photos of the new ship. And, I suspect that you both would really enjoy the multiple BBQ's and events that take place on a crossing.:)

Well.... we booked the TA. :o
