Cruise line, reason for canceling , she said for the most part they do loose their commission but not always. When I speak with my guy I'll try and get more info, he was on the phone and since it wasn't anything important to do with my booking I left a message for a call back when he has some free time. jakesnana Posted April 23, 2015 #28 Share Posted April 23, 2015 There are many variables involved, however, for the most part if the client cancels the reservation (regardless of WHEN they cancel) than the TA DOES NOT get the commission. If the cruise line has already paid the commission, it will be recalled from future earnings. I have NEVER been paid my commission from a client's travel insurance and had never even heard of the possibility. The OP is a nice person to want to make sure that her TA gets something for the work they put into the reservation as most clients are unconcerned, which is why some TA's charge a cancellation fee. Surely the cruiseline can't say since they're out the non-cruiser's tips (which are for the staff, after all, not the cruiseline) or their potential voluntary purchases of photos, drinks, specialty dining, massages, etc., etc. that therefore the TA shouldn't be compensated for their work! After all, the cruiseline is probably getting paid double for the cabin since the person that cancelled has paid and then they get the additional money from the next person who gets the cabin. They certainly should pay the TA because they helped them get that money in the first place. I feel really bad if my TA doesn't get paid. She is always there to help me with any issues I have and I have been with her many years. I had just assumed that they would get their fair share of what they were owed. That is just not right. If a client cancels and we have been paid out our commission already then the cruise line recalls the commission. That is why many agencies charge cancel fees. I had a refundable cabin and cancelled way before final and they charged me a $40 cancellation fee. Now I just call the cruise lines direct. Probably in this case late cancellation or commission or something like that. Cruise Critic threads appear in search results. Then they open the link and don't bother checking the date.
