The MDR is at the rear (aft)of the ship, probably level 6. below the buffet.
michaellasdad Posted April 23, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Thank you. Do you know what deck you board the ship on?
Demonyte Posted April 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Thank you. Do you know what deck you board the ship on? In most ports the embarkation on Dawn class and Jewel class ships is on deck 7, via the promenade.
biker@sea Posted April 23, 2015 #5 Share Posted April 23, 2015 (edited) Thank you. Do you know what deck you board the ship on? In Boston you board on Promenade deck 7 . The entrance for Venetian restaurant is on deck 7 aft. too . Edited April 23, 2015 by biker@sea
luddite Posted April 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Yup. They will ask if you are needing directions to the buffet. It is subtle but they are trying to steer you there. Just tell'em you are looking for the dining room.

DaisyGoldberg Posted April 23, 2015 #10 Share Posted April 23, 2015 We've been escorted to Cagneys, but also just dropped at the room. But it's possible we weren't escorted the other times because they knew we had been on the Dawn before.

ColinIllinois Posted April 23, 2015 #13 Share Posted April 23, 2015 FYI...they have pocket mini guides of every ship on the NCL site that you may find helpful (or anyone else). http://www.ncl.com/downloads/overview

Sand and Seas Posted April 23, 2015 #15 Share Posted April 23, 2015 Why would they try to steer you toward the crowded buffet, when the Venitian is so much better? We always go to the MDR on embarkation day. We have always had lunch at the Venetian MDR on embarkation day. Look for the Daily paper, sometimes handed to you before you board, and it will list everything open for lunch and what the hours are. The Venetian is usually open until 2pm. Just tell'em you are looking for the dining room. We have been on 18 cruises with NCL, and we do NOT like to have lunch at the buffet restaurant (we prefer to sit down and choose from a menu). But the "steering" towards the buffet restaurant on embarkation days was so efficient that it took us about 12 cruises to find out that the MDR was open for lunch also on embarkation day..... :p

biker@sea Posted April 23, 2015 #20 Share Posted April 23, 2015 I was happy to see NCL trying to upgrade their menu in the MDR's . Even the buffet on Dawn was decked out in white linen a few night's .
luddite Posted April 24, 2015 #21 Share Posted April 24, 2015 Why would they try to steer you toward the crowded buffet, when the Venitian is so much better? We always go to the MDR on embarkation day. Presumably to keep people out of the dining room thus needing less staff there. It is a subtle thing but it is happening. One of our BIL/SIL are well trained by various lines and automatically head for the buffet with the herds - whenever we are traveling together, and, we sometimes reluctantly join them but otherwise, no way - Jose, not going into those elevators to ride up. Nowadays, the Haven people can dine in their own little hideaways but we the common people still get a little pampering in the MDR - holding the food tray was the worst part in those old days in the "cafeteria"
Demonyte Posted April 24, 2015 #24 Share Posted April 24, 2015 (edited) They don't try to steer you to the buffet on the Dawn, just ask they are happy to point you to the MDR. Incorrect. At least on two different ships I've been told that MDR is/will not open for lunch and if we wanted lunch, we'd need to go to buffet. They really are instructed to guide everybody to buffet for lunch. Edited April 24, 2015 by Demonyte

Been doing the MDR eversince. Other lines do not open MDRs for embarkation. That disappointed us on Royal last year.
