Regal/royal princess questions

Staff are at this stairway before the muster to help direct people to the muster.

Passengers can find their way up the stairs without the need for staff to be there after the muster.

Staff are also at the forward and aft stairways before the muster but not after it.

The forward and aft stairwells are also not designated as 'crew only', therefore don't need to be manned after the drill and before sail away. But the Crew Only amidships stairs would still need to be manned since there may be some liability for passengers being injured in a 'crew only' space that was left wide open and unattended. As you've seen in the pictures the Crew Only amidships stair column is rather industrial; those stairs are not carpeted, and there's access to electrical panels, ductwork, piping valves, and fire extinguishing systems that the cruise lines would prefer passengers don't play with.

I thought the same thing...allowing unattended passengers in crew access only areas during a drill could result in liability issues.

The crew stairs on the Royal and the Regal are always open during the muster drill. The doors to them are left open for returning to your cabin until all passengers have dispersed. :)

We encountered crew members who refused to allow us to utilize the crew stairs to return to our cabin. We were directed down the stairs to attend the muster and then told we couldn't use them to go back up.

Both of these can not be true.

On our cruises we used the crew stairs to go to muster and return to our cabin. We did this immediately following the end of muster. That is when I had the chance to take pictures of the stairs.

If others did not have this experience on other cruise dates , then perhaps the procedure was changed.

Recently booked this cabin for next year on the Regal. Does anyone know what the obstruction is? Cabin was available for a very long time. A little worried. Thanks for any info you might have.

Probably floor level survival craft/lifeboats or Davits etc used to lower the equipment.

I am sure Dave can provide some photos! :D

You're two cabins to the left of E410 in this picture. View will be obstructed by lifeboats when you're out on the balcony and looking to the right (forward), and due to the curvature of the superstructure feature the view aft will be barely obstructed, however looking straight out will be fine. I personally wouldn't have any problem booking this cabin.

Thanks Dave. I feel better now about the cabin. Never booked on Emerald or an Obstructied view before. Other than life boat on right, should be fine. You always have the answers. GREAT!

I wish that I could provide an answer for cruises exclusively within the Caribbean but haven't had that experience.

However the Winemakers Dinner was available on our 10 day NYC to Ft. Lauderdale (via St. Thomas, Antigua & Aruba) cruise last October but I do not recall on which day. Hopefully it will be available for you & that you'll enjoy it as much as us. It's not the Chef's Table but it's also only about 1/3 of the cost of a CT. We enjoyed the WD more than the Crown Grill & it was good to have free flowing wine with a better meal in the "wine cellar" than what we've had in the dining room. :)

Thanx again, Astro. The Crown Grill is $25 and with a bottle of wine the price can easily reach $40, so the WD seems a good deal.

Steve

You're welcome & here's a link to examples of the 3 menus although each time it has been the Michael Mondavi menu. Having the filet mignon entree they said it's the most popular menu although sometime I'd like to have the Silverdo wines.

  • 1 year later...

3- I recall years ago on the Grand Princess of being kicked out of the casino at 1am due to them not meeting quota, will this happen to us, does the casino close before 2am?

This is really hit & miss. There have been times we've been kicked out late night and others not so much. The casino bar will definitely close at some point late night. 1am is pretty early though. Especially if you're winning. :D

Dave, we're booked in E421 next June, which I know is on the opposite side of the ship. Any chance you can give me an arrow to show me where we would be and whether there is any obstruction?
