picantel Posted June 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 21, 2015 I know some will not understand this but what are the ramifications of cancelling a cruise that was free(just paid port charges). I am sick of cruising and especially tired of carnival since it is just the same old same old every cruise. I am cruising on the valor in 3 weeks and it makes me sick just thinking of going on it. Thanks.

Thanks. Why wouldn't you have asked Carnival when you booked the trip? And why don't you ask them now? Not that hard to do. Let me know if you need advice on how to contact them. For some people, such things are hard.
AdGuyMG Posted June 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted June 21, 2015 (edited) The correct and accurate answer is going to depend on the circumstances of how you got the free cruise. Did you win it as a raffle or door prize from a 3rd party at some event? Is it a Carnival casino promotion? A Carnival VIFP past guest award? A 3rd party casino offer? The correct and accurate answer to the financial ramifications is also going to depend on whether you wisely purchased trip insurance. You should also have received some kind of confirmation/documentation that should spell out the cancellation policy. goodtogo123 Posted June 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted June 21, 2015 What kind of answer do you expect? IF you want to cancel, call Carnival and ask them the penalty. No need for your pity party here.

SadieN Posted June 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted June 21, 2015 Ask. There's probably some sort of penalty.

falkcor Posted June 21, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 21, 2015 as others have stated, i'd review whatever booking documentation you have. if it's not clear, call carnival and ask. i have seen for some of the free cruise promotions (not mine!) that the fine print actually stipulated that if you were to cancel or even a no-show, you would be responsible for the full market rate and applicable fees. again, it wasn't mine, but i recall this being somewhat clearly spelled out, and why pvps were suggesting the insurance so heartily in coordination with whatever promotion that was. and you're right, i do not understand being sick over a free cruise. just goes to show they're giving them to the wrong people  they should give them to me instead :)
ajtaylor29 Posted June 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted June 21, 2015 I don't remember all the specifics, but last year i booked a bounce-back free cruise offered by the casino. I do remember my PVP suggesting insurance because if we had cancelled i was going to be liable for the full rate (not really sure, it seems weird to me?!?) but anyway - i did purchase insurance just in case. Fortunately, we didn't need the insurance and had a great cruise!
TeresaJ Posted June 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 21, 2015 Just call them to cancel. Why come on here and brag that you got a free cruise that you want to cancel because you're sick of Carnival

Midwestgal Posted June 21, 2015 #13 Share Posted June 21, 2015 When I received my free cabin offer I was told if I had to cancel I would have to pay the going price of the cruise. I booked my cruise I sailed within weeks, being so close your going to get hit with a hefty fee unless things have changed.

evandbob Posted June 21, 2015 #15 Share Posted June 21, 2015 In some cases, you might avoid any cancellation penalties by being a no show.

elliair Posted June 21, 2015 #19 Share Posted June 21, 2015 So you're trying to merge multiple threads? No one in this thread said anything like that and you said "many of you are moaning". No wonder you never make any sense since you can't stick to the thread you're posting in. If someone is so stuck up that they would stop cruising a line because the didn't receive a free cruise......well good riddance to that person. No, not at all. Look at the past and people freaked and upset because they didn't get a free cruise. You know exactly what I am talking about because you have participated in those threads. boo-who. If someone is so stuck up that they would stop cruising a line because the didn't receive a free cruise......well good riddance to that person. Well, I can agree with that. I found it funny that someone got a free cruise and now hates it that they don't want the "free" cruise. They'll be really upset now with the penalty and come here and whine about it. You know the drill.
