Host Hattie Posted June 27, 2015 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2015 As we've discussed before on this board the review section of this site seems to exist in another world and there are some dreadful reviews (particularly for QE). So if you've recently returned from any of the Cunard ships please post your thoughts and experiences in the review section as well as here. Follow this link - Write your review Just a couple of things - I would write as a word (other packages are available) document just in case the site throws a wobbly and they are reviewed and can take a few days to be published so don't worry if you don't see it straight away. You should get an email acknowledgement and then another when it's published. Many Thanks
lidojohnny Posted June 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted June 28, 2015 Was on QM2, 6/14 to 6/21 to NY. This was our fourth time. Admittedly the Weather was lousy all the way, and it kept people inside. However, the Food was horrible in that hallway food court on deck seven, and the cooking Staff acted like they were doing you a favor. There were so many people Jammed into this viaduct, one barely could move. This staggered time to eat Does not work. The ship seems dingy now, as compared to other crossings In need of Maintenance. Several deck doors had broken latches and were Rusted. The Casino, and the hall outside the pub have deep depressions In the carpet, which felt like a hole. The dining room was not bad, but As usual you have the no coat or tie people on formal night, and they are Just let in. Perhaps, they have rested on their laurels a little too long, And still are in the 30's with bellmen wearing those little hats and white Gloves standing for inspection. Those are my comments for good or ill.

I'm not too sure what you mean here. There is no staggered timing in the Kings Court. It is open 24 hours. You can always get something to eat. And if one area is congested, you just walk over to another one which is quieter.

kendon Posted June 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted June 28, 2015 Oh no...our first Cunard/QM2 is in August and I'm concerned. From what I've been reading, the ship seems neglected and in need of general maintenance. Too bad...
Host Hattie Posted June 28, 2015 Author #6 Share Posted June 28, 2015 I obviously worded this very badly - I didn't mean for this to turn into a review thread, I was just trying to encourage regular posters to write a review on that section of the site. Kendon, There are certainly signs of wear and tear if you go looking for them, QM2 is 11 years old and overdue a dry dock, but they certainly weren't enough to stop us enjoying our last two trips on her. Have a wonderful trip,
kendon Posted June 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted June 28, 2015 I will write a review upon our return. We are avid Princess cruisers and have been on some of the older ships , however we enjoyed our cruise as well as any other. For us it's always about the people we meet along the way. Looking forward to the Cunard "experience". :)
Jayneykul Posted June 28, 2015 #8 Share Posted June 28, 2015 Haven't read the review thread will do now. Fail to see how people could be negative about the QE our experience was absolutely fantastic (oh art from the pianist in the golden lion least said the better)

kendon Posted June 28, 2015 #10 Share Posted June 28, 2015 I will add that many businesses are cutting back these days, but they have to remember that often they will never get a second chance to make a first impression. The cruise lines do lurk on these boards, and it wouldn't hurt for them to take a look at what they may have become complacent about.

Have a wonderful trip, Hattie, we just returned from our first TA from Hamburg to NYC - and it was a dream!! Will add a review separately, but would also like to mention that this is not a new ship. It nevertheless is not disastrous as one might get the impression on some posts and if you want to find or search for something to pick on you of course always will. She will be refurbished end May/full June 2016 in Hamburg. This is what we have learned on board. Nevertheless our impression is that complaining on anything really is complaining on an extreme high level and the whole crew is working hard to make our lives just wonderful. We would immediately embark again - no doubt about that!!

Jayneykul Posted June 29, 2015 #13 Share Posted June 29, 2015 I have just read some of the reviews!! A lot seem to be from short cruises where there were issues with weather which spoiled things for a lot of people. I don't know if it's too late to post my review as we sailed last Sept. We have nothing but positive things to say. Hoping for the same on Victoria in Oct
Oahucruiser Posted June 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) It's never too late and it would be a delight to read a glowing and positive review. We love that ship and it's sad to read such negativity! Please do write your review. Well be on her in July/August and expect it to be as wonderful as our other times on her. Rare Germancruiser Posted July 2, 2015 #15 Share Posted July 2, 2015 Well Host Hatti- I will write a review in the following days- I am just back from a great QV voage! ( I don´t dare calling a " Voyage" on board one of the Cunarder´s a " Cruise" ! LOL) It will be a very possitive one too- since I am hard pressed to find something really negativ! IMO we are all spoiled rotten with all these new ships every year- and expect everything to look right of the ship yard on every shp we board! Yoshikitty Posted July 2, 2015 #16 Share Posted July 2, 2015 (edited) Was on QM2, 6/14 to 6/21 to NY. We've been on QM2 exactly after this trip from NYC to Hamburg 21-30. June. Our 5th TA crossing and everytime when we read these negative reviews, we worry about how bad our Crossing will be. The ship seems to be falling apart, the personel overworked and unfriendly, food in general - particularly in KC uneatable. Totally wrong - always! Ship's condition: Admittedly the Ship needs new paint on many places, but staff are constantly working in removing imperfect spots when the weather allows. I've read a review here, which mentioned a missing and rough handrail recently: This is what I have seen one morning and I was speaking to the staff: They did take off the real handrail some weeks ago - refurbished it and you can see the new bits laying on the deck. In the meantime, they installed a rougher not nice handrail to prevent people falling overboard and marked the sharper corners with tape to make sure that nobody gets injusred. Now they are replacing the temporarily handrail with the real one. So we better be careful for the next time jumping too fast on conclusions. Food in Kings Court: We are always wondering if your standards are so low or if it is other people. We like the food there! And we took the chance to have a look at the food AFTER it was presented and BEFORE passengers served themselfs, everything looked really nice. Of course this changes latest after the 10th portion taken off from the buffet. Food in General: To us, it has slightly improved - portions went a bit smaller which is a good thing as we could try out a second starter or dessert now and then. Our Stateroom Steward and Waiters all appeared to be more friendly and attentive compared to the previous voyages and everybody stopped to ask, if we where enjoying what was just happening. Speaking to our fellow passengers, most of them have been more than happy with their experience and easily overlooked the existing faults (holes in the floor, still defective seats in Illumination - worn out chairs in MDR). Our Steward even gave me a new mattress after I have asked for one. One factor may have been the perfect weather on our trip - we've had for the first time the chance to spend 2 pool days on deck 8 without wind - simply beautiful! But we would hardly credit Cunard for the good weather Nothing is perfect in life and so is QM2 - but we prefer to enjoy our time onboard instead of falling over on small flaws which simply happen. avalon1025 Posted July 2, 2015 #20 Share Posted July 2, 2015 I was on the May 27th crossing and the ship was in the roughest condition in all my 14 sailings. Sad to see her just waiting for that 2016 dry dock. The dry dock will be extensive, essentially deck 7 is being ripped out, but currently expect wobbly tables, threadbare carpets and old chairs

From what I've been reading, the ship seems neglected and in need of general maintenance. Too bad... Do not be too concerned, I found the food and service to be top notch, but then as with most things, these are subjective and one person's view can be totally opposite from another's.:D
V and S Posted July 6, 2015 #24 Share Posted July 6, 2015 We sailed out of NYC on 6/3, and had a great cruise. We looked for the maintenance issues so often referred to here, but really felt we had to look for them. It's all in your choice of focus, I guess... We adored the thalassotherapy pool, steam, sauna, loungers and used them every day. We were in PG and, like most everyone else, found the food delicious and the service excellent. We had afternoon tea in the Queen's Lounge every day, and that was a highlight for us. In the PG, much more attention was paid to my husband than to me, and at nearly every meal something I'd requested (i.e., milk for tea) was forgotten and had to be asked for again! He has a gluten allergy, and that may be why--they may have been trying to ensure he got his needs met. That was the only negative thing we have to say about the cruise, except that we booked white star luggage service, and when our bag arrived, it was badly ripped--Cunard does not tell you in advance that they do NOT cover luggage, only contents... We had 18 foot waves, and although we certainly felt movement (we were on deck 10, forward), it was not unpleasant. I had been concerned about this. The ship is remarkably stable. The weather was fine, clear most days and sunny, and the wind on deck was fierce, but it didn't keep us from using our balcony, sometimes wrapped in blankets. Oh, the sea! We once saw a few small whales... We went to the ballroom 2 nights, and felt intimidated there by the excellent dancers. We've taken 2 years of ballroom lessons, but found ourselves nervous out on the floor amidst dozens of couples who were nearly professional in their style and ability. I noticed we were not the only ones hanging back, either. Not sure what Cunard could do about that, to be more welcoming to everyone somehow. We did take the dance classes and found them to be excellent. We didn't notice people not dressing up; actually, I don't remember seeing too many not dressed up. In the PG dining room, everyone was dressed appropriately every night. Overall, it was an excellent cruise and a wonderful experience, waking up in England! Rare MicCanberra Posted July 6, 2015 #25 Share Posted July 6, 2015 I do think that the QM2 is one of the best ships to be on for cutting through bad seas and still providing a very stable cruise at speed.:D
