Rare Crew News Posted August 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Does HAL still do the on-deck barbecue one night during a 7-day Caribbean cruise? They were still doing it last December on the Nieuw Amsterdam.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2015 We had them on our spring Zuiderdam partial Panama Canal cruises.

dakrewser Posted August 14, 2015 Author #5 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks all. I imagine it will be our stop in Cozumel as we're there until 11 PM. A good night for alternative dining (Tamarind or PG? hmmm)
wishful thinking Posted August 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Didn't happen on B2B on Noordam in March this year. Was a little disappointed to be honest. Previous 2 years it was done on St Lucia day.
Fouremco Posted August 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2015 Thanks all. I imagine it will be our stop in Cozumel as we're there until 11 PM. A good night for alternative dining (Tamarind or PG? hmmm) This past February on the Nieuw Amsterdam the BBQ was in Cozumel with, needless to say, a Mexican theme. There was a local mariachi band for entertainment too. We were late getting back from Tulum and the band was leaving as we arrived, but others said they were entertaining. We hit the very tail end of the BBQ and enjoyed it.
Khaos WolfKat Posted August 20, 2015 #8 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Oh wow! Do they do this on the Alaska cruises too?? That would be awesome!
Rare Crew News Posted August 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Oh wow! Do they do this on the Alaska cruises too?? That would be awesome! They do have a salmon bake for lunch. Check your On Location for the exact day. Sorry, no mariachi band.
Rare POA1 Posted August 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2015 For Caribbean sailings, it's almost always a day when you are in port late. That's often Cozumel, San Juan, or Curacao. Just take a look at your itinerary, and you can probably venture an educated guess.
Khaos WolfKat Posted August 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 20, 2015 They do have a salmon bake for lunch. Check your On Location for the exact day. Sorry, no mariachi band. That sounds divine! I can't wait! Thanks for the info. :D
sail7seas Posted August 20, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 20, 2015 We enjoyed the salmon bake on Oosterdam in Alaska. Salmon is about my favorite meal so I was very happy. :)
Rare chefestelle Posted August 20, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Hmmm. How late is late? Our latest port is Cabo San Lucas departing at 7... Probably too early for a BBQ?
dakrewser Posted August 20, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Hmmm. How late is late? Our latest port is Cabo San Lucas departing at 7... Probably too early for a BBQ? I don't remember a BBQ on a Mexican Riviera cruise - but I've only done one on HAL and that was 10 years ago!
RuthC Posted August 20, 2015 #15 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Hmmm. How late is late? Our latest port is Cabo San Lucas departing at 7... Probably too early for a BBQ? That's perfect timing for a barbecue. I would expect them to start service about 5:00, and continue until about 8:00-ish. The barbecue time is going to be similar to the dining hours, or normal Lido dinner hours.
sail7seas Posted August 20, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 20, 2015 For those wondering...... When they have a barbecue on deck, the MDR is always open for those who prefer to dine there instead of B'que..
Rare chefestelle Posted August 20, 2015 #17 Share Posted August 20, 2015 That's great! Something very summery about a BBQ. To have one in December is decadent!
bonvoyagebites Posted August 20, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 20, 2015 Our 3-day Pacific Coastal from San Diego to Vancouver had a Mongolian BBQ for lunch. Loved it!
Typhoon1 Posted August 20, 2015 #19 Share Posted August 20, 2015 For those wondering...... When they have a barbecue on deck, the MDR is always open for those who prefer to dine there instead of B'que.. We've eaten at the BBQ twice, if I recall, it's good to check it out. Now, we opt for the MDR instead.
