Booking Entertainment...Anthem

Our cruise is about 80 days away. The RCCL website is still not allowing us to reserve our on board entertainment. All other things (restaurants, excursions, etc.) are out there and have been for quite some time. Is it normal for the entertainment to still not be available this close to the cruise?

Entertainment usually opens up about 90 days out. It seems that they open in blocks of cruises and not necessarily in any pattern. Today is Sunday and on Sunday nights Royal does some work on their web. Check tomorrow and see if during the night your cruise opens up. We are 98 days out and I'll begin checking for us tomorrow (but don't expect it).

If you are on the TransAtlantic or the first sailings of Anthem in US it may be requiring more planning in the ship's entertainment and therefore 80 days is to be expected.

How far out were you able to book dining reservations?

I think that's the significance. They haven't opened up entertainment bookings on any of the US sailings. Maybe things will change vs. what they did from the UK? Still hoping they change the show but that's unlikely to happen.

Entertainment opened for booking on the Anthem TA 89 days out. Just keep checking your Cruise Planner, and your Roll Call.

Did it open fairly recently or was it available at the same time as a bunch of other cruises opened up?

  • 2 weeks later...

We are booked on the 11/22 sailing on the Anthem and I called to question not being able to book entertainment and I was told the show times have not been finalized yet. They will be on the website shortly and you will be able to book then. He said they update the site 2x a week so keep checking.

We have booked WWRY and the Gift for our November 30 asking but do not see the option to book Spectra. Does that show up under the entertainment tab?

Yep. When i opened the entertainment window, it had all three shows listed as options on the left, and all three were included in the main day-by-day lists.

it's possible they just haven't figured out the schedule for your sailing yet, even though it's before ours. there wasn't much choice on ours, as we're only on a 7-night and we're docked late at a couple of the ports (11 pm and midnight) so they wouldn't have the main shows those nights.

Hmmm, that's strange. I wonder why Spectra's Cabaraet isn't available to book for the 11/10 sailing.

Also, does anyone know if we will be able to reserve the Headliner show on Anthem like you do for Oasis class?

When I booked my Quantum cruise we were able to reserve in advance the two production shows in the main theater, the production show in 270, and the Guest Entertainer. I suspect we will have this same opportunity on Anthem and that they just don't have it all scheduled yet for our sailing (11/10/15). I'm optimistic that it'll all be there eventually! :D

Great. Thanks Bonnie. I hope the rest of the entertainment is released soon because I really want to have everything in place and make sure no conflicts with dining. I tried to make changes yesterday and there's already slim availability for some venues, especially The Grande.

About to book the 11/22 sailing but worried we are now shut out of dining. Anyone on that sailing willing to check availability for 8 people for main dining rooms around 5:30-6:30pm? I don't want to switch from Breakaway until I know fining isn't going to be a problem on Antgem. Thanks!

From the reviews I've read, many folks didn't reserve any dining in advance and just walked up to the restaurants when they were ready to eat and have had no problems or long waits. Even if the time you desire isn't available to book in advance they will have several people set up to make and change reservations as soon as you board. I'm sure it won't be a problem. Make the switch. :)

I see youve done a tummy and Brekaway right around the same time last year- can you offer a quick comparison? Dining? Cabins? Entertainment? Casino? Kids/ teens programs? Any insight into any or all would be most appreciated!

While I thought the Breakaway was a beautiful ship, I wouldn't sail again unless it was an awesome deal. First, the food was dismal. And the service, except for a few exceptions, wasn't much better. We ate in the MDR's as well as 2 specialty restaurants, Cagney's and La Cucina. La Cucina is the worst specialty dining experience I've had on a ship and would never pay extra to eat here. I really wouldn't eat there for free.

We had a mini suite with an extra large balcony and it was great, but most balconies on the BWY are very small. Entertainment on BWY was decent. I enjoyed Rock of Ages and the jazz club in the evenings but the Second City Improv was boring. Not my cup of tea. I prefer stand up comedy and there is none at all on BWY. I didn't like the fact that they held many passenger favorite events, Like the Love and Marriage game, in the centrum area. There was limited seating and it was held during dinner time, as were many other events. Also, had kids' movies and other events taking place here all during the day which made the area very noisy if you just wanted a snack at O'Sheehans or paid a visit to guest services. Casino was nice but very smoky. Even in the "non smoking" side. No kids for me so I can't comment on the kids program but they did have a nice sports area up on deck that would probably be enjoyable for kids.

Overall, The Anthem is just more beautiful and the entertainment will be fantastic and the MDR as well as specialty dining is far superior than on BWY.
