Refundable/Non-Refundable Deposits

I made a booking online with Princess and the deposit will be $200.00. How do I know if the deposit is refundable? Nothing is indicated. Final payment is not for a couple of months. Thanks.

It varies with each promotion, it's better to ask or read the fine print.

Actually, I find you have to watch it. When I booked our cruise for February, it was at a good price. My B I L booked as well but not at the price I did. When I called Princess, that was when I found out I had a casino rate. I did not realize it, nothing came up online when booking, and it was only when she told me I had a non refundable deposit. So it is in the booking summary, but by then it would of been too late. Fortunately we all decided on that cruise, so no harm. But it is something I will be checking in the future:rolleyes:

It may be wise to book by calling Princess vs on line... that is what I usually do because I am using a FBC... would think they would need to tell you the deposit is non refundable.

I am the OP and I did call Princess today since I changed the category on the booking. I asked about refundable and non-refundable. Her comment was that as a past passenger the deposit is refundable. And usually a non-refundable deposit is related to a special sale, or the like. That reminded me that the only non-refundable deposit I ever had with Princess was when I saw that a rate on a booking I had was reduced and asked for the new rate. At that point I was told the deposit was non-refundable (I guess because the reduced rate was because of a sale of some kind).

I booked a cruise last month under the "sip and Sail" promotion. We were planning to sail with three other couples and didn't have the date carved in stone yet (one couple was waffling on the entire thing). Since I didn't want to lose out on the sip and sail promo I went ahead and called my TA to book it but made sure to ask before booking whether the deposit was refundable in case we needed to change dates. She told me that it was refundable for that promotion and said that typically it is promotions that offer free gratuities that have non refundable deposits. I don't know how accurate that info is, but she does a lot of Princess bookings.

Current promotion has free gratuities and the deposit is refundable.

Is that the 3 for Free? Gratuities, Room Upgrade(know what that is), Specialty Dinner, etc.? I read the fine print several times and could not find anything about refundable/non-refundable.

Fine print will always say if deposit is non-refundable.

I don't think it is ever mentioned if refundable.

Okay, I just answered my question by booking under this promo, the deposit is refundable. After completing the booking, but just holding it without putting down a deposit, you can see the cancellation schedule.

I have learned to do this also. I feel Princess should be more "upfront" about cancellation penalties before booking, and not hide them in the fine print to be searched for after booking but before making a deposit :(.
