Do you lose all shipboard credit if you do not use it???

Depends. Many TAs give shipboard credit as if it comes from them but is really an Oceania credit due to a group booking, high sales volume, etc.

Anything which originates from Oceania is usually non refundable. If your travel agent is giving you a credit directly because you are a good customer, etc, that is usually refundable.

Most good TAs will tell you which is refundable or not before you board.

We have kept may female family members happy buying jewelery to use up our credit.

Sorry about that, Lyn, but there are some contingencies you cannot plan for!

We just cancelled our NCL cruise next week because of Howard's eye surgery. Bummer, but he wouldn't have enjoyed the cruise anyway.

We also left $.14 when we disembarked Regatta yesterday. We had $33.14 in refundable obc left. They gave us the $33.00 but didn't have change to give us the $.14.

Your various on-board credits will be on cards in your stateroom. The cards state whether the credit is refundable or non-refundable. From our recent experience, O deducts your on-board spending from the non-refundable first, leaving the refundable, if any left, for you to take in cash at the end of the trip.

Our best for Howard's surgery and a speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone. Howard is doing very well and the surgeon is pleased with his progress. He thinks the final outcome will be better than he was anticipating before the surgery was done, so that is good news.

On the last day of our cruise we realized we still had $134 left on our OBC. The shops were closed because we were in port and we were ready to leave. I just left it as additional gratuities for the crew.

I asked to do that & was told no ... cannot do that

There are some REFUNDABLE OBC these may come from you TA but the ones that come from Oceania or an TA incentive(via Oceania) are NON-REFUNDABLE

Check the cards in your cabin with the credits to see which ones are which

Do not assume all OBC are the same

  • 2 weeks later...

All you have to do is go to the reception desk at any point in your cruise and ask for a print out of your charges. Your on-board credits will state whether they are non-refundable.

Also we always get a letter as we are nearer the end of the cruise if we have any credits left reminding us to use them or lose them.

If I take the cruise I am thinking about, the Marina in Mar, my promotion says Ship Board Credit(SBC). It does not indicate if it is refundable or non-refundable. Can you go to the casino and get cash and thus reduce your SBC by that amount. I would expect that they would reduce the amount by a handling/convenience fee (say 3% - 5%). Has anyone heard of that?

Can you use the SBC for excursions?

Thanks, Rick

You can definitely use SBC for excursions but AFAIK you cannot use it for the casino.

If it is part of the cruise promo it will be NON refundable

You can use it for everything you put on your World Card (except the casino)
