flczr Posted September 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Do many men wear Tuxedos on formal night?
ryano Posted September 14, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2015 (edited) No. Not "many". Maybe 10% or less. A lot more suits or dress slacks and sport coats than tuxedos. Thats for Caribbean cruises anyway. Seem to be getting more and more casual as the years go by. Edited September 14, 2015 by ryano
UK Cruiser2 Posted September 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Might depend on which ship you are on. Iv'e heard that there aren't any formal nights on Quantum Class ships ?

Hozhoni Posted September 14, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Mine does sometimes especially if we have a lot of formal photos to take and its holiday time. We bought one a local Burlington and have different bow ties :) it's fun...but sometimes he just wears a regular tie with slacks and dress shirt :) have fun!! Alohaaloha Posted September 14, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Mine does too! Apart from NYE dinner dances, it's the only time he gets to wear his tux and he likes it! Sent from my iPad using Forums
LilBlackDress Posted September 14, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 14, 2015 My husband normally wears a tux for the 1st formal night and a suit on the 2nd formal night. He has to wear a uniform at work. During vacations, land or sea, he enjoys wearing more formal clothing.
CntPAcruiser Posted September 14, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 14, 2015 My husband and I wear our tuxes for both formal nights. We really enjoy dressing up, and have some different bowties & cummerbunds to mix it up. We always seem to end up at a table in the MDR with others who go more formal as well, so it works out nicely. margeecruiser Posted September 14, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Mine does, too. He gets compliments from fellow cruisers and sometimes the staff. He does not bring a regular business suit, but does bring a sport coat and slacks. He wears a collarless silk knit shirt or a sweater under the sport coat. He wore suits and uniforms during his work years. When he retired he said he would not wear another tie unless it was a bow tie with a tux. On our cruises, which a usually longer than a week, more than 10% wear tuxes, but not much more. Margee

sealeggs Posted September 16, 2015 #14 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I bought a Tux for our cruises. I enjoy wearing it on formal nights.
cb at sea Posted September 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Hubby has 2 tuxedos....we have functions from time to time that require them, so we bring one on every cruise! Takes up no more room than a suit, since it IS a suit, in essence!
George C Posted September 16, 2015 #16 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I agree about 10 percent, I still wear mine on all formal nights, not sure how long I will continue to do so, but I have for all formals for last 30 years.
mcd2745 Posted September 16, 2015 #17 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I would normally agree with the approx 10% or so wearing tuxes, however, on our Freedom cruise a couple of weeks ago, I would say it was definitely less than 5%. I think I could have counted on one hand how many men I saw in tuxes. Probably only around 10% of men wore ties. There was a good amount of suits/sport jackets, dress shirts, and no tie (I fell into this category). Majority though...was much more casual than that (though my wife did say she noticed someone in shorts & a t-shirt denied entry to the MDR one formal night). The rest of the nights though...it was pretty much 'anything goes'. The trend is undeniable and most likely, irreversible, at this point.
John F Posted September 16, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I still enjoy wearing my tux on Formal nights. Have been doing it for over 15 years of cruising. I guess we are "old" scholl, but still enjoy dressing in our formal wear. We usually get many wonderful comments on our attire!! John & Priscilla :) :)
ryano Posted September 16, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 16, 2015 (though my wife did say she noticed someone in shorts & a t-shirt denied entry to the MDR one formal night).. Im actually surprised they stopped him. On our first formal night on Freedom in April, there were two tables right beside us all dressed in shorts and t shirts. Not something that bothers me at all. Just an observation :)
