luggage valet & excess weight

Has anyone ever been charged for bags weighing over 50 lbs? If so how are you charged as I have been told by concierge that the ship does not weigh your bags. The ship only transfers your bags directly to the airline.

That's a good question. Since we usually drive to the port we have never encountered this. The few times we used luggage valet we didn't even think about the luggage weight but once leaving from Ft Lauderdale a big bottle of Crown Royal stowed snugly in the middle of a suitcase suffered a "leak" on the journey between the ship and the plane. It's very unnerving to be seated and ready to leave to be called overhead about your bag. Everything smelled of crown which is a nice smell but not when stuffed in an airplane.

If your bag is overweight, they'll tell you at the check-in counter at the airport. The fee is published on your airline's website. They will give you the option to take out enough items to get your bag underweight, but then you have to figure out what to do with all that extra to carry-on the plane.

 

I'd suggest investing in a luggage scale to make sure you avoid this before you get out the door to your trip.

That would be great, have not thought about overweight bags.

Its spelled out on the form you fill out on the ship

 

All airline baggage fees will be applied to your seapass account.

 

I have always taken that to mean all fees, inclusive of overweight bags.

The AIRLINES will have a problem with overweight bags. Weigh them...and remember what's in each bag! The ship doesn't weigh anything...unless you're on a weight dependent excursion...then, they will weigh you!

We never travel without a handheld luggage scale...you could take them up to the onboard gym to weigh them, but that may be frowned upon.

 

Invest in a scale ;)
