Another way is to belong to Royal's casino player's club called Club Royale. That club is by invitation only, after the casino host has rated your play. Clarea Posted October 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted October 7, 2015 do you mean deposit cash in advance No, Royal does not require cash in advance on a cash type onboard account. They will let you charge up to $500 before they ask you to pay it down.

Clarea Posted October 7, 2015 #8 Share Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) Then that is a way to avoid the 5% surcharge. Yes, you can cash traveler's checks to get cash for the casino. No surcharge then, no matter how your onboard account is secured. Edited October 7, 2015 by clarea
cruisegirl1 Posted October 7, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 7, 2015 (edited) What about traveler's checks? We often use Traveler checks for gaming money on cruises. I think we had to cash them at guest services, rather than at the casino cage We also use the TC if going on a long cruise so we don't need to carry lots of cash. I have not used them in any European or Caribbean port in years. As long as there is no charge for you to get the TC, it is a good way to get cash with no fee. If you don't need all the TC by the end of the cruise, and are not taking another cruise soon, just cash them at guest services. We hang on to them to use on future cruises. BTW, RCCL limits personal checks to $200. M Edited October 7, 2015 by cruisegirl1

nu_cruzer1 Posted October 7, 2015 #12 Share Posted October 7, 2015 If you are an MLife member (MGM Casino Player Program) and are at Gold level or higher then the charge is waived. Now becoming a Gold member just to avoid the 5% charge will be a lot costlier than paying the 5% but .. if you happen to be Gold then it will work out. cruise_blog Posted October 7, 2015 #13 Share Posted October 7, 2015 If we have a lot of on-board credit (combined from RCCL and TA), and set up a cash account will they let us withdraw the credit at the casino without the 5% charge? We usually never use up all our on board credit so really makes no difference to me if it is cash account or on a credit card. If they extend "credit" up to $500, then I'm guessing that means I can set up the cash account with no cash up front--just the on board credit I have? One downside to a cash account is that you have to visit Guest Services on the last night and settle the account.
RFerrington Posted October 7, 2015 #16 Share Posted October 7, 2015 Re: the OBC, even if you have lots and lots of OBC to use, they will still charge you the 5% convenience fee to get cash at the casino. The limit for getting cash on your seapass account is $2k per person, per day.

cruise_blog Posted October 7, 2015 #18 Share Posted October 7, 2015 Thanks for the info Bob. One other question then--can I settle a cash account with a credit card on the last night of the cruise if there is any balance left? Or will they only accept cash? Travalerie Posted October 7, 2015 #21 Share Posted October 7, 2015 You can settle with credit or debit card on the last night. I was reconsidering doing this so I can get some cash for our onboard credit, but the thought of standing in a long line the last night has me stuck. Can you put the card down to settle the account at any point during the cruise? Like on day 4, could you ask them to use "this" card on the last day? Yes, you can change to a credit card type of account, but after that they would charge 5% if you get cash out at the casino.

Thanks, I think that will work!! I am sure we can find some non-busy time when we can put down a card before the last day.
Travalerie Posted October 8, 2015 #24 Share Posted October 8, 2015 So to make sure I am clear. I have a cash account and let's say I have $200 OBC. If I go to the casino the first day and take out $200 in cash, would my onboard credit be used first? Or would they charge $200 to my account and then deduct other expenses from my onboard credit? The onboard credit is only "used" at the end of the cruise. All charges go to your onboard account. At the end, credits are deducted.
