Onboard Credit & Gratuities Question

Can you use onboard credit to pay your gratuities? Also, can you use your OB credit to upgrade from Classic to Premium beverage packages?

You need to upgrade onboard. If you upgrade before you can't use the OBC.

Also if you are in Select dining you won't be able to use the OBC to pay the grats, as they have to be paid at final payment.

Yes. If you have select/anytime dining, you have to pre-pay your gratuities at final payment. A many people who have a lot of OBC will book either early or late traditional dining then try to switch once they get on board if they really desire select/anytime.

Yes. Same as with Princess' Anytime Dining basically.

 

If you want Celebrity Select Dining & you want the crew tips paid with your OBC, you need to be on either late or early Traditional Dining. Choose that and your tips will be charged to your cabin account against your OBC once you're on the ship. Then once you're onboard, you might be able to switch to Select Dining or you can just eat in the specialty restaurants and/or the buffet.

Just double checking that tips will come off obc. I rang Celebrity and they told me I could not use obc to pay for grats. Do they just tell you that to stop people doing this ?

As noted earlier, as long as you don't have Select dining, gratuities and anything else charged to your account while on board (other than deposit on a future cruise ) will come out of your OBC.

Celebrity posts your OBC to your Seapass account, any charges to your Seapass account, (virtually anything you purchase on-board), are deducted from that amount until you use it all. They don't pick and choose what to apply the credit to.

Can you assume that Celebrity automatically post the OBC (both as part of the provided promotion and from the Travel Agent) to your seapass account, does it appear in your eDocs. under the "Cruise Enhancements Onboard Confirmation" section, or both?

 

Your help would be appreciated.

When you first arrive in your cabin you should find a slip of paper with the amounts of OBC you have. If you have 3 different lots of OBC you should have 3 slips of paper. You can check it online on your TV after a couple of days. IT generally takes that long to get everything transposed. You can have two types of OBC. Refundable and non refundable. Non refundable is that provided by the Cruise line, refundable is that you have paid yourself or had gifted to you. Non refundable OBC is used up first. If you have refundable OBC left at the end of the cruise you can take it as cash or credited to your nominated credit card.

Generally you wont be advised of your OBC until you actually get on board. It would pay to keep copies of any OBC promised by the cruise line or paid by someone else. Mistakes sometimes occur but are generally quickly rectified.
