Auckland Hotels

Good evening,

 

I will be staying an extra day in Auckland post cruise in January. I am looking for recommendations for moderately priced hotels that would be convenient to get to from the ship AND to the airport. As I will be on my own, safety is a priority.

 

Any ideas appreciated!

As commonly discussed here, there is a Hilton right on the pier where the ships dock.

 

 

You might want to define "moderately priced". It means different things to different people, and different things in different place, like downtown, or in the suburbs.

The Hilton is on Princes Wharf. cruise ships do dock there, but the new Cruise Terminal , Shed 10 , is on Queens Wharf where most cruise ships now dock. Its the next one along from Princes so its only a short walk. There are several Down town Hotels within walking distance of both.

I see the copthorne which is right on the waterfront and was very popular with cruise passengers is undergoing a complete rebuild so would be unavailable.

 

Rydges is pretty popular and is a mid - range hotel and close to pretty well everything in the centre city.

Waterfront serviced apartments. On the same wharf as the Hilton but with huge rooms and balconies plus they're much cheaper. Fantastic.

Thank you, roscoe, and everyone who offered suggestions for my stay. It seems the Hilton is way above my budget, and the waterfront serviced apartments require more than a one night stay.

 

I have checked the Rydges website and think it might be just fine. Because I have some mobility issues I would need to take a taxi to the hotel, but the location looks very central.

Thanks for that update Roscoe. The Copthorne was certainly in need of an upgrade. The position is perfect , especially for cruise passengers. The price was also popular and I imagine that will move upmarket along with the renovations.:D

I agree that they are brilliant but, like the Hilton, the entrance is at the far end of Princes Wharf which may not be ideal for someone with mobility issues.

Auntdot. if you have mobility issues, can I suggest you also look at the Crown Plaza. IT is in a slightly better position for you in that it has an escalator system that takes you from the upper street level to Elliot street and therefore Queen Street without having to worry about the hill. Elliot is a bit of a trendy back street to Queen street which is the main shopping street and has the theatre etc in it. from there its also an almost level walk down towards the water if you wanted to take the walk. I think it might be a better position rather than Rydges which only has the Casino nearby....of course that might be right up your alley..haha..

I am looking for a hotel in Auckland for two nights before a cruise, convenient to the terminal also. I am not the original poster, but to me moderately priced is not too much over $100 a night. The Hilton would, I am sure, be way over budget. Is this area fairly accessible by public transportation from the airport? Hotwire has lots of fairly cheap hotels, but we have to be sure public transportation is nearby. We could also stay nearer the airport. Do cheaper hotels have shuttle services?
