Use of onboard credit in casino

We have a cruise booked with a lot of non refundable on board credit. I have called Celebrity several times and got conflicting answers if we are able to use OBC in the casino. One rep said yes for a 5% fee and two eps said no that we would be charged on our credit card. Does anyone have experience in using OBC in the casino.

1. Total up your OBC.

2. Do math, multiply total by .95, remember your result.

3. Go to casino, ask for the nearest $5/10/20/whatever amount to your total.

4. Spend cash however you want.

5. Smile.

Is this a current experience? I had two reps tell me that the OBC will be charged to my CC on file.

You are getting a cash advance on your cabin ostensibly for use in the casino (which they'll do for anyone with or without OBC). That doesn't mean you can't just take the cash they give you and put it in your pocket.

That charge plus 5% is put on your bill. The OBC will pay off any charges to your bill. Any balance left over once the OBC is gone will be charged to the credit card linked to your account.

We just did that last month on Solstice. Had non-refundable obc, went to cashier in Casino on last full day, asked for $100 cash and a charge of $105 was put on my seapass account which left a total of .08cents on my account. Last week, noticed a credit to my cc of .11cents Canadian lol...just assumed money owed or due of less than a dollar would be erased but apparently not!

So yes, it can be done, but at a cost of 5%

I agree, the telephone reps don't know what the actual situation is.

Even sometimes the Guest Relations staff don't know.

Sometimes, it's all in how you ask the question. If you ask, can I get my non-refundable OBC out of my SeaPass account? The answer is no.

If you say, can I use my OBC in the casino, the answer is yes, for a fee.

You might think that those are the same questions, but they aren't.

We do this all the time. We have always received the cash minus the 5%. With OBR, we just let it be and it gets refunded to our CC at the end of the cruise.

When you get a printout of your bill, you will see the two types of OBC designated as OBN (non refundable) and OBR (refundable).
