californiagirl Posted January 11, 2016 #351 Share Posted January 11, 2016 This will be my last post for a week. When we got to our cabin there was a letter telling us that because of the delay the port days had been changed around. We will have two days at sea, then Costa Maya, Belize and Cozumel; then one day at sea on Saturday before returning to Houston on Sunday. Originally we were to have the two sea days at the end. So Costa Maya and Cozumel have both been moved. This actually works out better because we will be in Costa Maya from 7-5 instead of 12-8...more beach time! The letter stated that any tours through Princess would automatically be switched to the appropriate day. I can see from our balcony a line of cars bumper to bumper stretching up past the overpass waiting to get to the terminal. The pursers desk said we would be sailing at 10:00. I think that may be optimistic.
DrBunsenHoneydew Posted January 11, 2016 #352 Share Posted January 11, 2016 On the ship and just informed of a change in itinerary. Adding an additional sea day on the departure, now hitting Costa Maya on Wednesday (instead of Tuesday), and moving Cozumel from Weds to Fri, which was originally supposed to be a sea day. Makes more logical sense now than the original itinerary did! And no loss of port days is a big win.

We were on the ship the week of Dec. 27 and missed Costa Maya completely and went to Cozumel instead. Roatan had to be a tender day too. Have a great week! denamo Posted January 11, 2016 #356 Share Posted January 11, 2016 (edited) Caribbean Princess is pulling away from port now. It's about 10:30 P.M. How frustrating the most recent arrivals into port have fallen onto extenuating circumstances. Been a two fogged out of port cruises in Galveston. One only an hour delay, but the other an all day delay. Hard for all involved. Edited January 11, 2016 by denamo
c-legs Posted January 11, 2016 #357 Share Posted January 11, 2016 We were pleased with the communication' date=' although the staff at the port can only communicate what THEY know. We were told that the Princess computers and all other equipment is kept on the ship. When she docks, the computers are brought into the terminal along with the IT staff who sets them up and readies everything for check in. They said it would take about 2 - 2 1/2 hours for the set up and check in process, which was about the same times as required for disembarkation. Thus, about the same time the ship had emptied out, they would be ready to start boarding. Have a great cruise![/quote'] You're describing the scenario exactly right. Same situation here in port of Vancouver. By the time disembarkation process is done, ~~~ 2 3/4 hres, the floor and equipment are ready to commence check-in. Yes, the equipment belongs to the ship and travels with it. You can only ''speed things up ''so much, when it comes to disembarkation,in order to recover some of the delay,;likewise, the embarkation process does take a certain minimum of time and there is not a whole lot of ''dead time'' built into the schedule... So; a 5 hour delay mooring pretty well works out to at least a 4 1/2 hre delay in casting off.... Reality.... Cheers
c-legs Posted January 11, 2016 #358 Share Posted January 11, 2016 Regardless this entire thread: "Will Carribbean princess be late this week?" ...should be a sticky. Right on !! Good post !!:):D Would perhaps start off as a joke....but history tells us otherwise.!
satxdiver Posted January 11, 2016 #359 Share Posted January 11, 2016 The CB is back at sea finally after leaving Bayport at 10:30 PM or so. It appears they will make all their ports but in a different order. For those that insist on private tours, they may have a small problem. However the tour agents at the various ports keep an eye on when the ship is arriving and adjust for it. Let us hope the rest of their cruise is without any problems. The CB and Princess will be leaving Bayport at the end of this season and not returning. POH had waived port fees and added some other bennies to get Princess and NCL to bring their cruise ships to the port. Those inducements will expire at the end of the winter season so both ships are leaving for good.
Rare Paula_MacFan Posted January 11, 2016 #360 Share Posted January 11, 2016 Since someone posted this thread should be a sticky, I got to thinking about specifically how many times the CB has actually been late since sailing from Houston. Here's what I came up with, correct me if I'm wrong: Nov 4 -- On time (I know because I was sailing on her!) Nov 8 -- On time (I know because I was getting off!) Nov 15 -- On time Nov 22 -- On time Nov 29 --Delayed overnight due to fog Dec 6 -- On time Dec 13 -- Back a day early due to fog Dec 20 -- On time Dec 27 -- On time Jan 3 -- On time Jan 10 -- Delayed 6 hours due to wind Feel free to correct my info if it is incorrect! I was on the December 6th cruise. We left on time, but returned Saturday evening to avoid weather problems. Disembarkation was delayed on Sunday because the winds were so bad the ship kept shifting and the gangway couldn't be used safely. moki'smommy Posted January 11, 2016 #363 Share Posted January 11, 2016 The cruises listed as "back a day early" were really not. The ship hurried to the Galveston area, was not disembarked until Sunday as scheduled. As far as I know, no ports were missed due to this effort to get near to the port quickly. SailinC2C Posted January 11, 2016 #365 Share Posted January 11, 2016 My parents are on a B2B starting Feb 28. They are on Princess Air. If the ship is a day late arriving, does Princess cover the extra hotel night? If they miss their flight home, I assume Princess pays all flight change costs? Main effect was the casino had to close down earlier and maybe alcohol variety was limited for a few hours.

If the ship is a day late arriving, does Princess cover the extra hotel night? If they miss their flight home, I assume Princess pays all flight change costs? No one can predict what Princess WILL do in the future. What they DID do on the 11/29 cruise that was delayed 24 hours was that for those people who booked EZair and transfers (which they referred to as "the full package,") were transported to a hotel and back to the port the next day and the hotel was paid for by Princess. They did not provide any food, but the hotel had coffee and tea as well as apples and oranges complimentary. If you purchased only the cruise thru Princess or anything other than "the full package," you were on your own to find and pay for a hotel for the night. Of course, as Princess pointed out, this is what travel insurance is for. Yes, if the flight is booked thru EZAir, Princess will make arrangements for them to get home and will cover any additional fees incurred. Again, anything that Princess does not cover can be submitted to your travel insurance company.
SailinC2C Posted January 11, 2016 #372 Share Posted January 11, 2016 That's sort of what I thought. I had heard Houston was bad for delays so I suggested they book Princess Air just in case. Let's hope they don't need to take advantage of the benefits!
DrivesLikeMario Posted January 11, 2016 #373 Share Posted January 11, 2016 Our Galveston cruise was delayed for many, many hours due to fog a few years ago, so it does happen in Galveston too. Houston has it's share of problems but Galveston isn't free from them either. The cruises from there are still worth it for many people, especially those on the west coast who prefer the nice, short flight to get to Texas vs. an all day affair getting to FL. Rare ddled Posted January 12, 2016 #374 Share Posted January 12, 2016 in 2009 I think-we were on Voyager and just got into Galveston, but the ship stayed there for 2 days waiting to leave again. A Carnival ship did leave, but it got a window that Voyager did not get. At least once in the last couple of years the ship channel closed due to a barge accident for a couple of days. Interesting place to sail. We are on the 24th sailing, but our son lives there and we are driving, so if they can just get us on the ship...:)

Let's hope they don't need to take advantage of the benefits! We were on last week's sailing of the CB and got off late, and had EZ Air, scheduled for a 4:30pm departure. I can tell you first hand that Princess does pay for a hotel but not meals. They booked about 60 of us at the Sheraton in Houston, we had a corner suite, a VERY nice room. They do not reemburse for meals but the lady at the front desk told us that travel insurance will. (keep receipts). They bussed us to the hotel and we took the shuttle to the airport today. Princess did not tell us they rebooked our flight, I thought we could make it but decided to call just in case, the agent told me to check with the Front Desk on the ship and sure enough they had rescheduled us. There were no announcements, no emails, nada. Good luck to your parents and I hope they have a wonderful time!
