Shareholders Credit NOT Combinable with Casino Rate

I sure hope this is an error/oversight, I was getting ready to send in my brokerage statement shortly. Although, I will say the savings from the casino rate was significantly more than the $100 shareholder credit for a 7 day cruise. However, when I check last week, just before final payment was due, I noticed the rate had gone down but still not lower than casino rate, I didn't bother to try to re-fare.

Do go back to them for explanation. If they are denying because it's a reduced rate, that doesn't fly. They would have to also deny for past guest discounts, state targeted discounts, etc.

 

This has come up on the Carnival forum and they politely pushed back and got their credit. Whoever makes the decisions on the credit relented and clarified that if a discount, OBC allowed but if the cabin was a comp, then no shareholders credit.

 

Let us know what they say.

I called Princess this morning and they read me the following statement which is printed on the form I submitted (I bolded the portion they emphasized):

"Employees, travel agents cruising at travel agent rates, tour conductors or anyone cruising on a reduced rate or complimentary basis are excluded."

 

I then said that I've gotten it in the past and that this doesn't really make sense since every time there is a sale, it could be considered a reduced rate. I was then told, that's true, but in my case, it was because I had received much more of a reduction than the usual 25% casino rate.

 

Bottom line, I did not get the Shareholders credit due to the amount I actually paid for the cruise. Not sure where the "cutoff" is, but in all honesty, I did get the cruise for an extremely low rate (almost free), so I can understand why they don't want to give me any more credit.

 

Thanks for your advice to call. Glad I called since I at least found out that under "normal" circumstances, you can get Shareholders credit using the regular casino rate (the email I received certainly didn't explain that and only said "Shareholders credit is not combinable with the casino rate").

Donna, my cruise this month on Carnival was a casino offer for a free inside cabin plus $200 cash at the cage. I upgraded to an OV for $200 total. First cruise since purchasing stock. Because it was a paid cruise due to the upgrade, I did get the shareholders credit. Others have gotten too under same conditions.

 

Maybe they are taking some sort of stand now but they need to define what reductions are ok and what aren't. I'm guessing your rate may have been 30% off. So if it's reduced 25% that's ok but 30% is not? What if the cruise is not selling and its greatly discounted - 50% off brochure price?

 

My next cruise is on Princess on a casino offer, too.

Sharon, my cruise was $100 per person for an inside (plus taxes and port fees). If I had wanted an upgrade to something other than an inside, I would have had to pay full price, so it wasn't a "normal" casino discount. While it would have been nice to get the Shareholders OBC, I'm happy with an almost free cruise. And I'm glad to hear that a normal casino discount would still get the Shareholder's OBC--guess it's time to look at booking another one soon. ;)

Donna, that's an excellent deal. For my cruise next year received a offer that I wouldn't have believed even after not cruising Princess for 3 years. Like I said, I'll ask for the OBC but when they say no, can't complain. Still, I just hate the inconsistency. My last cruise with carnival, I paid $100pp + tax&port fees for an oceanview on a 7 night cruise, pretty much your same deal and did get the credit.

How "forgiving" are they when looking at casino play? I was given a casino rate for two cruses but on the last cruise, due to illness, I didn't play as much and now I'm not getting the casino rate.

 

I have no idea. I think they only count the last cruise from what I've read, but I'm not sure anyone really knows for sure what determines who gets a casino rate, or even how much of a discount (especially since I got one that is much more than the 25-30%). If you look at the Casino board on CC, there are a lot of folks that seem to get free cruises on other lines (don't see that much on Princess).

Yes, I'm really happy with the rate I paid :D, and if I have to forgo the Shareholders OBC to get an almost free cruise, I'm really not going to complain. But you're right, it doesn't seem to be completely consistent.

I booked on Regal Princess with a cruise certificate from a land based casino. I paid to upgrade to a balcony cabin like in the past. Today I got an email saying my Shareholder credit was denied. I received it in the past for the same kind of booking. What is my next step to try and get it?

Mine was from a land-based casino as well. Not sure you have any recourse. I talked to Princess supervisors and managers and couldn't get it. Also apparently, I also don't get the elite benefits, although the cruise does count in my history. But it's basically a free cruise, so really can't complain. Choice is mine to take the almost free cruise and forego bennies, or cancel, rebook and pay in full to get the bennies. No brainer, I'll forego bennies for this one.

May I ask what casino you got it from? Mine was from Trump in AC.

 

Next week Trump offered me a cruise from Carnival. Maybe Princess is not giving any/or less to casinos anymore.
