Susieq0102 Posted January 2, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2016 My DH and I are booked for an Alaska cruise. How does customs work when disembarking in Canada and 4 hours later flying out for the US? I did research customs but none addressed my questions. hancock Posted January 2, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2016 You will go through US customs at Vancouver airport. While I don't remember Canada's customs getting off the ship, it didn't take a long time.
sfaaa Posted January 2, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Yes, you have to go through Can customs on disembarkation. Be aware non Canadians with a criminal record or DUI conviction (not implying you in anyway) may be turned away and denied entry at the port. 1025cruise Posted January 2, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Another thing to look for is if they bring back the US Direct program. If they do, you buy the cruise transfers to the airport, you bypass customs/immigration and get put on a bus that is sealed, and then brought straight to the airport to a sealed area. Unfortunately, whether or not the program runs seems to be hit or miss lately.

At the airport you'll hasve to go thru US Customs. To make a flight that soon after arrival be prepared to do self disembark and grab a taxi to the airport . You'll need to be at the airport 2 hours before departure to clear security and customs. What is the actual time of your flight ?

Rare Keith1010 Posted January 2, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2016 What time is your flight and are you flying out of Vancouver. If it is Vancouver I would not book a flight before Noon and ideally after 12:30/1:00. Keith

Kamloops50 Posted January 2, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Will we go through customs a second time when entering the U.S.? You clear canadian customs when you arrive at Canada Place. At YVR you'll be pre cleared by US Customs before boarding your flight . After US Customs at YVR you are considered that your take a domestic US flight for Customs . Like flying from Seattle to New York. Flights before noon aren't recommended from YVR for cruise passengers . If you arrive at 7AM , the first walk-offs don't usually disembark until 7:45 or later depending on how long it takes to clear the ship.
