Biker19 Posted July 16, 2018 #126 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Does anyone have experience with these wired network connections? Do they work? Yes. No. WiFi is the only connection unless you happen to find an unlocked cage around one of the ships' PCs and can get to the wired CAT5 cable (like the PC in the DL). Why would one need a router onboard other than adding multiple devices to one connection? Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Biker19 Posted July 16, 2018 #128 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Why would one need a router onboard other than adding multiple devices to one connection? Maybe to set up a VPN, but yes, most likely to share a one device package.

Milwaukee Eight Posted July 16, 2018 #130 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Is that like sharing a drink pkg? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk I think so. Why not just Purshase multiple VOOM packages? I think their argument is going to be they are only using one pipe but to me, it’s still spiting the bandwidth and robbing Royal of justifiable revenue. Cigar King Posted July 16, 2018 #131 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Is that like sharing a drink pkg? It is, but, here you can all use it at the same time. Have you tried that with a drink? ;-)
Biker19 Posted July 16, 2018 #132 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Is that like sharing a drink pkg? No, because you pay for a Surf connection with which you can't get any more data if you spread across multiple devices (unlike drinks) and RCI doesn't prohibit it (yet). Biker19 Posted July 16, 2018 #134 Share Posted July 16, 2018 Aren't they kind of prohibiting it if this wont work for the average non techie? True, figuring out how to share a VOOM package is a lot tougher than a drink package.

I don’t agree. Why don’t you ask Royal if installing a router in order to have multiple devices on VOOM is permitted? I believe the answer is no. Sent from my iPhone using Forums I've come to appreciate a travel router to get a decent wifi signal in the cabin. Doesn't do much good if the signal is ok at the door but useless at the desk, bed or on the balcony.

Clarea Posted July 17, 2018 #138 Share Posted July 17, 2018 If WiFi is useless at the desk, how does the router get a signal?[emoji848] If the router is battery powered, they can put it near the door where the signal is better.
fredflint Posted July 17, 2018 #139 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Weird since the same companies that offer the wireless routers also make network cards, they must have some software that offers the option to block the MAC address range.

Every router I've seen has the ability to assume any MAC address, so this should not be a problem.

Clarea Posted July 17, 2018 #142 Share Posted July 17, 2018 Bob, are you using a router onboard??? No, it's of no use to us. It would only allow multiple connections within a very short range.
