Refundable Onboard Credit??

We just got off the Regal 10 day cruise and we had a credit of approximately $95 which said "refundable." Will this show up as a credit on our credit card or is it lost? Thanks.

We have received a check about one month after the end of cruise. I believe it was drawn on Barclay's Bank. I almost threw the envelope away since I did not recognize the return address and thought it was junk mail!

I ask for the money at the end of the week.

The last couple of cruises we were on, if your refundable is more than $100, you have to wait for the check.

The only time the OBC will be refunded to your credit card is if the card originally bought the OBC. There is no way to process a refund, if it wasn't originally on from the card.

We once received cash without asking. I think it was for a small amount, though.

If they tell you it will come to you in a check, make sure to watch ALL OF YOUR MAIL because it doesn't say Princess on the envelope and ours didn't say Barclay. It was a name that I don't recall seeing before. The envelope was sitting in our "junk mail" pile.

will they give you cash?

thx

Yes, for refundable OBC (which is only the Veteran's OBC, all others are non-refundable).

Any amount under $100 you can cash out.

If you have non-refundable OBC, the only way to get it is to spend it or go to the casino and gamble a little, then cash out. That can be a risk, but it wasn't "real" money to start with.

On our last cruise (New Year's) we were told they'll only refund $25 in cash on the ship. This was on Coral, but other ships may have other rules.

Same here, it came about a month after I got home and had almost forgotten about it. Very non descript envelope and I agree it looked like some junk mail. I'm not sure why they can't just process it as a credit on your card, seems that would be easier for everyone.

Every ship has a different policy. Even on one ship you will get a different answer from different representatives. And don't call Princess before your cruise. They will always tell you nothing is refundable. On our recent Regal sailing we asked for the nearly $200 remaining OBC a few days before the end if the cruise. We got it in cash. Once we got several hundred dollars back in cash. Once they told us there was no refundable but sent us a check a few weeks later. And once when the refund check was taking a long time, they gave us "goodwill OBC" on our next cruise because of our long wait. We did get the refund check finally. Generous? Yes! Inconsistent? Very!

Which 'spends down' first? Refundable credits or non-refundable credits?

Non-refundable

There are other kinds of refundable OBC including gift credits and those you get from the Princess credit card.

You're right. I forgot about those who "buy" OBC. That type of OBC will probably be refunded to the purchasing credit card (not sure, cuz I've never bought OBC).

We had an OBC from a Nov. cruise. I call last week to ask when we would receive it. They told me you have to ask for it otherwise they don't send it. It will take 6 weeks to receive it from when you ask for it. Also asked if we could have the credit applied to our cruise next week. They said only if you email them a special request.

  • 5 weeks later...

Does anyone know if refundable OBC can be refunded before the cruise?

My in-laws accepted a moveover offer last week, and the agent told them they could get all or part of the OBC (over $9,000) sent back to their credit card. They just phoned up to get part of the refund now, to enable them to pay for their new flights, and were told it can only be refunded after the cruise.
