Rare MisterOJ2 Posted January 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2016 So, according to John Heald's Facebook page, next month Carnival is going to start showing the new Mad Max movie (which is rated R) at midnight to see how it goes. I personally love the Dive In movies and think this is a great idea. Do you guys think this is something that has the possibility of sticking around long term? I hope so. I'd like to see it when I cruise on the Dream in October.

Earthworm Jim Posted January 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2016 By not showing any R movies, it really limits the movies they can show. But I can see why they do it, since kids of any age might be on the Lido deck. The midnight movie sounds like a good compromise, but personally I'm too much of a morning person to start watching a movie at midnight for it to help me. I'd fall asleep in my chair. Still, a good idea for night owls.

Rare MisterOJ2 Posted January 29, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 29, 2016 Dumb question but what are Dive In movies? On the ships that have the big screen TVs over the pool, they show (relatively new) movies at night. It's not unlike being at a drive-in movie, hence the name. They usually have fresh popcorn available too. It's one of my favorite nighttime activities on the ship, since I am not much on dance clubs or casinos. zqvol Posted January 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted January 29, 2016 I don't have any issue with them doing it but I really wonder how many people will attend at midnight. While there are typically quiet a few people in the clubs that late 85% of the passengers are in bed by then, if not a lot earlier. If it works that is great! gh1088 Posted January 29, 2016 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2016 We watched Mad Max at midnight on the Sunshine in December. We actually took a nap after dinner so we could make it through it. It was nice laying on a lounger with a blanket. It was relatively crowded. I would definitely do it again if they movie they were showing was worth it. AprilJ Posted January 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2016 (edited) Making it to midnight would be a stretch for us, lol, maybe 10pm at best! Is it rather windy or cool at night with the ship sailing? Are you able to hear the movie well? Edited January 30, 2016 by AprilJ

I have a hard enough time staying awake until midnight. Forget past midnight. I think they should just make the 10:00 movie the R rated one. Maybe just a couple nights during the cruise. If parents don't want their kids watching a particular movie, then it's up to them to parent them and tell them they can't watch it.
JMAE Posted January 30, 2016 #13 Share Posted January 30, 2016 We would watch but midnight may be a little late for us, but who knows after a few laughs during the adult comedy we may be able to stay up.

Agree but I can imagine the noise that would be produced by some over-protected parents who would raise a stink if their little Johnny was exposed to a breast.
