SPacificbound Posted January 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2016 I called Cunard with this question and the person I talked to was not sure where QM 2 docks in NY. I'm trying to tie in some other plans so decided to come to the experts. This will be July 24, 2016. Is it Red Hook, and is that in Brooklyn? Or is it Manhatten? TIA

Thaxted Posted January 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2016 On those rare occasions when her berth in Red Hook has been assigned to another ship, QM2 will dock in Manhattan. Here's a lovely clip of her doing just that.

Salacia Posted January 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2016 The Port Schedule for NYC can be found here: http://www.nycruise.com/schedule/ There have been occasions where Cunard ships docked in Manhattan in the recent past, but this appears not to be the case in 2016. BTW, for lovers of maritime history, there is much to be appreciated and explored in the Red Hook Port :)

Rotterdam Posted February 1, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2016 on Queen Mary 2 a few years ago on a 13 day caribean cruise in February....we've been sailing out of Manhattan since the 1970's.....there is nothing like it...absolutely spectacular one of a kind experience. QM2 has sailed out of Manhattan several times since then. Sailing down the Hudson River w/ Manhattan & then the Statue of Liberty then topped off by sailing under the Verrazano Bridge..... Leaving out of Red Hook does go under the bridge & you can see the statue of liberty but its not quite the same.

My father was a NYC Firefighter and we had many of our "Firemen's Picnics" in Red Hook! Great memories! Susan

Wonderful memories of an more innocent time! Love looking at these old photos!! I lived on the shortest street in Brooklyn...Story Court. A cute little dead end street with 5 attached brick houses on either side of the street....makes me smile just thinking about it! :) http://forgotten-ny.com/2007/10/kensington-brooklyn/ Edited February 2, 2016 by suzyed
pepperrn Posted February 2, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) QM2 has docked in three different places in New York when I've been on board: Bayonne, New Jersey (once). I read it has much improved since I was there ten years ago (it was quite inadequate back then). Red Hook, Brooklyn (several times). Great views of Lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty. Manhattan West Side Piers (once). Simply the best. Like reliving some of the classic movies of the 30s-50s. The terminal building may be a bit basic, but the views of Manhattan from the promenade rail... breathtaking. I'd recommend being on the deck of a great transatlantic liner as she arrives at (or leaves) Manhattan at least once :) Can't wait until the next time... Aussie Gal Posted February 16, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Can you tell me how long it would take by Cab to get to the Brooklyn Terminal and what sort of price we would be expected to pay from our Park Avenue hotel ? We are boarding the QM2 in May for the crossing to Southampton and we are not from the U.S. so hence my questions. Thanks. Jennie

Jennie It depends on where on Park Ave your hotel is (it's a pretty long avenue) and what the traffic is like, but this website might be helpful:http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=NY Cheers, Salacia
Aussie Gal Posted February 16, 2016 #24 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks for that. It looks as though it will cost around $45 plus tips. Jennie
Salacia Posted February 16, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Thanks for that. It looks as though it will cost around $45 plus tips. Jennie You're welcome. Your hotel concierge might be able to arrange a car service for you at a similar (if not better) rate. Might be a nicer ride :)
