Bringing sodas onboard

I, too, cruise out of Galveston. I have seen them open them very unceremoniously and then make it hard to close back up. I only suggest a bag of sorts to keep it all in one place after. The DO open the cardboard.

We just experienced this. The guy ripped open our sealed 12 pack, and dumped every can out on the table. He shoved them back inside the now useless torn box, and pushed them back towards me. I thought at that time how easy it would have been for the guy to have a handle type tape dispenser to semi reseal the box for carrying ease. It would cost Carnival essentially nothing to do this.

I, like everyone else with ripped open 12 packs, had to carry them cradled in an arm the rest of the way. Its hard to do that while carrying two suitcases, and standing in a long line.

I wish Carnival would start charging people for the items that choose to do this. It is a mini-bar, not your personal refrigerator.

I won't even get soda out of CCL mini-bars anymore because who knows how many times those cans have been heated up and cooled down.

The frig is not just for CCL's items. It doesn't hurt a thing for those cokes to be set aside somewhere so you can chill your water, etc.

Oh, that would so make me ANGRY. What kind of inconsiderate jerk was working that day? I'll make sure to bring a re-usable bag for just THIS purpose now....

You didn't read that cans of soda aren't allowed to be carried aboard. You're allowed 12 sodas per passenger.

If you've registered the FAQ section was part of the Carnival website. If you haven't registered for your cruise do it tonight. In the process you can scan what's permitted to carry aboard.

Here's the location for the information:https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2633/~/liquor-and-beverage-policy

Here's what it says:

Bringing Liquor and Beverages Onboard - Embarkation

  • Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages onboard that are packaged in bottles.
  • A small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, juice, and milk) packaged in cans or cartons may be brought onboard on embarkation day and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12 ounces each or less per person.
  • Guests are prohibited from bringing alcoholic beverages on board with the following exception:

    • At the beginning of the cruise during embarkation day only, guests (21 years of age and older) may bring one 750 ml bottle of sealed/unopened wine or champagne per person in their carry-on luggage.
    • A $15 USD corkage fee (a charge exacted at a restaurant for every bottle of wine served that was not bought on the premises), per 750 ml bottle, will be charged should guests wish to consume their wine or champagne in the main dining room, steakhouse or bar.

Have a great trip!

I am going to jump on this thread as well... I know you can take 12 cans in per person. However does each person have to carry their own drinks, or is it per party? It's going to be 4 of us traveling and we will all be going in together. It's my wife and 2 kids. Do I have to take 4 12 packs, or can I just take 2 cases? (It's the same amount of cans obviously, just packaged differently)

In Galveston, I just put all of ours (4 12packs) in a rolling suitcase. We all went through the line together. No problem.

I always have mine in a rolling suitcase that I open for inspection just like my backpack with meds and such, they search all the bags.

You can bring them on in your carry on bags. They may ask you to open your bag for them to take a look.

We bring our wine on in our carry on bags.

The guy was not friendly at all. He was silent and looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. In any case, I didn't blame him. He was just doing what they told him to do, I suppose.

Again, a tape dispenser on a handle and momentary, minimal effort would be so helpful to repair the boxes to make them carry worthy. Almost everyone I saw in line had difficulty with the ripped open boxes.

I have another question about carry on beverages... My 4 year old drinks a certain juice, which you cannot get in the little bottles. It only comes in the larger standard juice size bottles, not sure the size of them. Is there going to be an issue bringing that aboard?

I not a seasoned cruiser like most of you are, but I have cruised several times. The last time we went out on the Magic from Galveston. We saw people with dollies (portable trucks or whatever people call them) and they were loaded down with 6 packs of canned drinks and plastic bottled water. Most of these people also had huge ice chests. I've read that passengers are only allowed a 12x12" ice chest and limited cans of soda or water. They checked us very carefully to make sure each of us had only ONE bottle of wine. Made me wonder.

May have been for a large group or charter?

Probably. If he/she can't drink anything else for medical reasons, contact Special Needs. Otherwise, the cruise will be a good time for him/her to experience something new. (IMO having new experiences is a large part of the beauty of cruising and travel in general)

You can't bring bottles - only cans or cartons.

  • 1 year later...
For 2017, are you still able to bring a 12 pack of sodas on Carnival ships ? All the info in this thread is for 2016. For some reason the Carnival website won't let me access their FAQ's. Something about "cookies" lol!

12 pack of sodas CANS.... yes

I just checked the website and it appears to be the same as last year.

Yes, you can bring sodas on board from the ports of call. Same rules apply, 1 12pk of unopened cans per person.

Thanks, that is what I expected but it's been a couple years and things change.

(I didn't find it specifically addressed in any of the policy/FAQ docs)

I read that Carnival does not allow bottled or canned soda to be brought on-board, but I LOVE Diet Coke, and have to drink decaffeinated. Could I bring some cans of decaffeinated Diet Coke on with me?

Thanks all!

13 days and counting!!

12 cans.

Probably a dumb question, but you can actually carry it on? I figured I had to "pack" it in my carry on.

I know I can only bring 12 cans per person, but is their a limit to how much "luggage" you can carry on with you? Ex, we can both do our bookbags and the soda without problems?

Im such a rookie.... I know!

Yes, you can literally carry it on not in your luggage....I've seen many cruisers carrying boxes of soda. One clever fellow had even used duct tape to fashion a strap/handle for his box!

My husband and I pack a duffel bag in our rolling carry-on. When we arrive at our embarkation port city, we buy our soda and put it in the rolling carry-on, transferring some of our clothing and other belongings into the duffel bag. Then, the duffel bag handles can be looped over the carry-on handle, so we don't have to carry anything heavy.
