Shareholder OBC Question

After reading here about the shareholder benefit, I purchased some Carnival stock. This next cruise will be my first with shareholder OBC of $250. What can shareholder credit be used for? Gratudities? Alcoholic beverages? Bingo? Casino? Excursions?

Not quite.

According to their site: "This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account."

Casino credits and gratuities are not covered under your CCL shareholder on board credit

Anything that goes on your bill. For sure, it will be eaten up rapidly by your gratuities....:)

Do not believe that is correct..

Have no idea how it could possibly be used in the Casino..

It is OBC not cash..

It says it can't be used for Gratituities, but the daily Service charge is always deducted from all OBC..

Not sure about Bingo.. We've always paid cash for our Bingo cards..

It's OBC - plain and simple. So, since you can charge to your onboard account on the slots in the casino, it can be done.

I don't believe that Hal differentiates obc onboard. Mine just gets eaten up :)

Wondering how you paid cash for the bingo cards? Have been told on last number of cruises they are charged to on board account unlike the casino where you have options.

HAL says that the stockholder OBC cannot be used for casino charges: "This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account"

However, I do not think that they really follow through on this (likely too tough to separate all the charges on their system).

Last couple of cruises we had alot of OBC and we were able to use casino and even bingo charges for this. On one cruise the bulk of our OBC was supposed to be used only for shore excursions, but again we used it for daily service charges, drinks, gift shop, casino and bingo.

It's true that the language of the shareholder benefit says: " This benefit is not transferable, cannot be exchanged for cash and, cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account." But remember, this language applies to all the cruise lines in the Carnival group. It may be, like NCL, that the accounting departments for Cunard, Princess, P & O, etc. may have the capability to separate refundable vs. non-refundable OBC. As of my last cruise HAL does not. I have always been able to use my shareholder OBC for gratuities and in the casino.
