The Escape is a great ship with one major exception

I was in Spice on the Escape and Epic. I didn't notice smoke smell but I was on the non-smoking side. Why not try it and see if that is the case on your cruise? Same with Wave Bar.

Have you been in Spice on the Away ships or the Epic? Same policy, as far as I know.

Sorry to be dragging up an old thread, but it was the closest one that I could find for my question.

My wife and I will be on Escape at the end of the month. We are older cruisers and while we enjoy the excitement of a cruise, we like to get away from the kiddies, too. On our last cruise our favorite hangout was at the bar in the adult only pool area. I kind of expected that the Spice H2O bar would be a usual spot for us on Escape. Then I read in another thread that that area is a smoking area. If that is the case, we won't be hanging out there. Next, I read that the Upper Pool Bar is a smoking area. Dang!

So, here's the question. What outdoor bar can we frequent that doesn't allow smoking? Am I going to have to make the mad dash for Vibe to get a kid-free, smoke-free spot?

Thanks

I don't smoke anymore but many non-smokers senses of entitlement is what makes me sick. Learn to live with your fellow human beings and respect their rights too.

There I said it and know what the reaction will be.

This is a joke, right?

Non-smokers aren't a danger to the health of smokers.

Smokers are a danger to the health of non-smokers.

Which group is "entitled"?

If it is as bad as everyone is reporting on the Escape we may just have dinner brought to our cabin in the Haven instead of going to the restaurant. Can't stand to be around cigarette smoke and my wife has asthma.

Well that's why I booked the gem for our last 2 cruises

No way would I expose my asthmatic dh to that horrible stench on the ba

When I sailed the ba 12 night with my college kids in 2015 every place we went we found ourselves asking "if dad takes this ship how do we avoid this place that place etc so he doesn't have an asthma attack at sea?"

The smoke situation is serious on the ba and actually infiltrates really nice areas on deck 6 7 and 8 making them off limits for many

Don't listen to those that say it's not bad...because I actually said that too sometimes while on the ship...but that was because I wanted to stay positive and was just trying to figure out if my dh could handle this ship

As I said I've booked the gem 2x since sailing the ba

My reaction is since you stopped smoking you must have started chugging too much kool aid

This scares me because my son and I are very sensitive to the smell of smoke and it causes us to get sick and our asthma flares up. We have been on 4 NCL cruises on the Pearl and Sun and have never had a problem. We booked the Escape for next spring and I'm thinking maybe we should try the Jade instead :(

My daughter has bad asthma- both wheezing and cough variant. We have sailed Getaway 3 times and she has not once needed a rescue inhaler. We always have her nebulizer, etc .

I'm not saying this to be a cheerleader , but we had been in a RCCL cruise prior to their balcony smoking ban where we could not use either balcony in the suite. The women next door smoked seemingly constantly and ruined our balcony time.

We booked Haven suites and knew had we could avoid any smoky areas on Getaway. The kids could use the Haven pool. She never has had an issue, we ate at the noodle bar, attended Headliners, ate at Le Bistro and OSheehans with no problems .

Just off the Escape and there was basically no smoke smell in 6-7-8. I was so surprised. Others in my party said they didn't even realize there was smoking indoors anywhere. We are all non-smokers. The only place we noticed smoke smell was the upstairs pool bar. I guess it can vary cruise to cruise.

I totally agree with LrgPizza. My wife and I were on the same sailing. We were in the casino on Sunday afternoon for the Slot Pull, and commented that there was no noticeable smoke. The only place we noticed a strong smoke odor was walking by the Waves Bar on the pool deck.

I agree only its me with the asthma. I did not have a issue on Getaway. We ate a early dinner inside at le Bistro. Plan on the same thing on Escape. I have never had any issues at pools or any outside venue.

You can not know whom will be on your sailing you. You can have a lot of chain smokers or just a few social smokers. If the smell is a bother avoid the area go up and around, no need to walk thru the casino. As long as smokers are in a allowed area its their right to smoke. Its my right to avoid it.

The good thing about the Escape casino is the Skyline bar is non smoking! You can sit at the bar and play video poker and have your drinks with out being in a smoke cloud. Which is unlike land based casinos.

"Entitled" to clean air? Hilarious.

I loathe the stench of cigarette smoke but to be honest, I did not notice this problem on Escape. We even sat in the patio area of Le Bistro and never smelled it. Could be we just got lucky and there weren't many smokers in the area above. I can see how it could be a problem though because the casino above is such a strange design.
