The periscope app can be downloaded through the App Store and is found in the iPhone section, not the iPad section. It is straight up called "Periscope". You can download it for free and to get a notifier that I am live you have to set up its notification in the phone settings. I hope this helps and you can find me by searching for @Andrew_1720.

You got that right. Instead of waking at 5 and staring at the ceiling, it will be 6, and one hour sooner to embarkation. Imagine the suckers on the ship losing an hour tonight. It would not surprise me if some of them are down at the pursers desk looking for some OBC for that one hour they are missing.:p

I recognize that bridge! Brought back memories of many March break drives to Florida when our son was young. I didn't like to fly. Now that I discovered cruising, I have put my flying fears behind as I want to get to the ship quickly. I would be unable to drive at the speed limit, being too excited about the cruise. How are the prices flying out of Detroit? Looking before our Freedom cruise in October. Have a wonderful cruise! I am subscribing for my cruise fix.:D

 

I caught myself driving a bit faster than I needed to today. The prices from Detroit are much better than Toronto. We have to drive an hour further but the prices are still better even with exchange. You can usually fly round trip out of Detroit for the same as a one way flight out of Toronto. We also have Nexus so it expedites our crossing at the border by car or airplane.

We arrived in FLL, with all luggage accounted for. No one on our flight needed to be shamed for their behaviour. We did have 5 people from the back of the plane that were allowed by the flight attendants to get up to the front as we were taxiing to the gate. Their ship was leaving at 4 and they needed to be there by 3:30. The door of the plane opened at 3:05 and we didn't see them at the luggage carousel at all. We hope they made it.

 

A prime reason why you fly in the day before, not the day of. How relaxing could that be???

Thanks. I must have gotten the wrong one. For one thing, I didn't see a search option anywhere. I picked the one I did because it had over 8000 downloads and the others were a lot less. Don't think I would be able to stand the one I downloaded. Haven't really had time to explore much yet.

Agreed! I always come in a couple of days early so I can relax and enjoy Fort Lauderdale a little. No way could I fly in the same day as the cruise

If it wasn't for me vocally bringing it to the drivers attention and perhaps the sticker of Jesus on his dash, who knows what might have happened. Another time we had a driver take a "detour" even though we knew better. He also demanded a higher price than what the meter said. You can imagine my response to that.

 

Well today we got a van, with a transmission that sounded like it was on its last legs at idle. Maybe if he had a trombone playing we wouldn't have heard the awful noise. By the time we exited the airport terminal area we had the driver almost smiling, which is pretty big for a FLL taxi driver.

 

So we pull up to a red stop light near the port exit and there is a gentleman who unfolds his cardboard sign and starts to walk between the rows of waiting cars. From appearances he looked to be down on his luck, with a scraggly beard and worm out clothing. He did however still have an honest approach with his sign. It read the following word for word. "To honest to steal. To ugly for prostitution".

 

We in the van all started to laugh, and out driver might have been leading the pack. Owen laughed just because we were but he didn't understand the reality behind the unfortunate truth. The light just changing green before he got to our van and our driver was off and moving before we could do something for this individual. I can only hope that this gentleman can find his way to bettering his situation. No matter his story he still had a sense of humour and hopefully that will bring him some solace today and the days to come.

I hear you. On our first cruise in 2009 we had an Amazing Race taxi driver. When we finally arrived at the port it became apparent he was totally unfamiliar, and was reluctant to take us past the gates (I had to talk him into it) which otherwise would have been an interesting spectacle if we'd had to walk our luggage in.

 

Then, he was going to drop us off at the wrong ship porter area (I pointed the large "X" out to him, and finally we were on our way.

 

This Niagara area Canadian wishes you & yours smooth sailing, and will virtual cruise with you. :)

Some quick posts about the rest of the day. Our taxi driver got us to the Hyatt Place Convention Centre. The price is great, free wifi, hot breakfast, sound proof exterior windows and fast elevators. Other than the free happy hour they excel and surpass the Embassy Suites which used to be our fall back hotel for years.

 

 

A king bed for us.

 

 

A sofa bed for Owen.

 

 

A fridge and desk area as well. It works for a night but I'm not sure it is the best for long stays. There is a new Margaritaville Resort with a flowrider south of the airport but I didn't even suggest it.

Yorkvillain you might want to try this hotel for the September 2017. For starters it has a pool you can swim in. Owen isn't diving, it's jumping. [emoji6]

 

 

Not to mention when I checked the shower, there was no Del Rio. All is good with the world.

Today we travelled 2.5 hours by car and another 3 hours by plane and you know what was the most dangerous part of the journey? This 5 foot piece of walkway on our walk to dinner at Gilbert's 17st Grill.

 

 

If you have ever eaten at Gilbert's you know that these 5 paving stones are well worth your life to get there. We have eaten there for years as a pre-cruise ritual at this family run grill. It doesn't matter if it is your first our 20th visit, you are treated like family. Tonight the mom and daughter were there along with their staff and more often than not the dad and son are there. My MIL still raves about their Blue Cheese burger with bacon and sweet potato fries.

And for those who have been waiting with bated breath for the risqué part of the review, it is time for some porn? Do you need 6 or 8 oz of juicy grade A American Beef, perhaps a little gherkin action on the side, some delicious candied yams followed by some eye popping desserts that will make you come back for more even though you know you shouldn't???

 

I was going to periscope at Gilbert's tonight but I though the better of it. I didn't want to have readers pass out due to a near coronary blockage of excessive visual indulging, never to return to finish reading my review, especially when I haven't even boarded the ship. I have done this for your own good.

Oh I love Gilbert's!! The Hyatt Place front desk staff recommended it to us the last time we were there and it was amazing....still thinking about their desserts...mmm :) It's a definite recommend on my list!

 

Loving your review so far, and looking forward to your two weeks on Allure! The night before the cruise always seems to drag on and on for me, but you planned it well with the time change... one less hour laying awake thinking of your adventures in the morning!

Just kidding, I'm no tease. The burgers are either 6 or 8oz.

 

 

 

Then you make the meat hot and juicy and you lay it between some firm buns it gets even better.;) Just be careful when you squeeze the ketchup bottle. :eek:

 

 

 

 

And if you can clean off your plate you deserve a bit of dessert, that is if you aren't exhausted from devouring the main course.

 

 

 

 

 

 

A meal like that always makes me come back for more. It is a great pre-cruise ritual.

We were at the falls this September and sailed on the Hornblower. She sure is not the old Maid of the Mist. Walking Clifton Hill was a flash back to childhood trips to the Falls, except only 30% of the hill was the same from back in the day. The hill was still as steep as I remembered from my childhood.

That's great. Start planning now as there is a lot of ground to cover, but it is well worth it. Keep our "home town" safe while we are gone and for the love of God, if it snows get it melted before we return. I don't think we can turn this into a B2B2B. Lucy would really give us the stink eye.
