I ask you this in all seriousness Mark, are you being funny or is this for real?

I live a few miles from the world famous Grucci Fireworks Headquarters......

I can't believe they thing watching on a 24 inch screen is going to be popular.....

Maybe a huge screen out by the pool...I can't coment on that because I have never seen it done and would not want to poo-poo it until I saw it....

But I don't even watch then on TV at home....let alone a cruise ship.......

People in my neighborhood do private displays that would rival any City in the world.....

Sitting in my room on a cruise watching tv is not how I want to spend my vacation....lol

If you took the t.v. out of the room it would probably take me half the cruise to realize it.......

I was just being funny... Cooped up in an office for the last month makes me a lil jumpy.. Lol I tried to make the world laugh.. Sometimes it's a welcome distraction from the petrels of a mundane life.. Plus sometimes it's fun to post something like a crazy idea that is out of the normal thought and see the response.

Cheers

Mark

Ha Ha..I'm glad I asked if you were being serious. Nothing surprises me nowadays with these cruise executives....I keep seeing their hot ideas fizzle one after the other on the three lines that I travel........

Me too. I refused to cruise on a ship with fireworks for fear they would explode, sink the ship and then I would drown........

I also have this thought on my mind if the ship do tilt, please be on the up side of my balcony.

  • 5 months later...

What's odd is when we booked on the Breakaway (departing 10/09/16) back in February the NCL agent I dealt with specifically said he was placing us in a cabin that would have a great view of fireworks. Very odd that he was selling us on the cabin location with a perk that was no longer being offered at the time of booking, far less eight months down the line.

Did they also put you in that room because it was closest to the "free" lobster now offered in limited quantities in the buffet? I never saw fireworks on a ship but i would think other ship got confussed and thought they were flares being sent up as a sign of distress..

Best,

Mark

So essentially you are only posting nonsense about things you really do not know anything about. O_o

We will be on the gem for 4th of july next year. I guess no fireworks???

NCL has only tried fireworks on the Breakaway and Getaway. Both discontinued a couple of years ago. And for passengers, brining explosives on a ship is a big no no.

I have not seen NCL (registered in the Bahamas) do anything for the US Independence Day other than a few balloons and streamers.

On another cruise line, we actually anchored off Portland MN one night to watch the fireworks and then sailed into NY harbor a second night to watch fireworks before getting back into international waters so they could open the shops and the casino.

Just for the records, NCL never had fireworks a "couple of years ago" before the arrival of the Breakaway & Getaway.

Fireworks was set off in the evening in 2014 and 2015 when we sailed the BA, nothing to write home about & can't compare to those at WSW or Macy's annual ones, for sure. But, it was there - before the "takeaway in 2015" and that was not a couple of years ago.

We don't missed it as it's not a deal breaker for what it is - it was taken away by current management - mid summer 2015, as it was still being discussed a year ago here on CC. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2216705&highlight=fireworks

I fixed it for you, from my best recollections no cruise ship goes to Minnesota and I don't think there is a Portland in MN. ;) But I could be wrong.

Where do you get your "facts"?

As already mentioned, Breakaway and Getaway weren't both even in service "couple of years ago", and NCL is an US based/registered corporation that is not "registered in the Bahamas" (ships are registered there, but so are everyone else's; in Bahamas or some other country - there is only one big cruise ship that is flagged in US and that ship is NCL's Pride of America).

The Breakaway came out in April 2013, the first sailing across the TA did have the fireworks as we were on it. They were ok. So that specific ship has been out for more than a couple of years (almost 3 1/2 to be exact).

According to articles I found online NCL announced they were being stopped in August 2015. So that would mean just a little over a year ago.
