Thanks for all of the information on the re-fit. We are doing Alaska in July and Asia in March so I am glad to hear that things are done well. Bistro on 5, we went there once on Summit when it was $5. It was ok. When they raised it to $7 we passed, when they raised it $10 we laughed, when they converted it to a sushi bar....well the good news for us is we don't plan to do any fishing and won't need any bait.....

It appears that the original panels from the former Olympic Restaurant - now Tuscan Grill - have been removed from the restaurant. Can you tell me if they are being used elsewhere on the ship?

If they did use the wood paneling elsewhere, I didn't see it. However, there is a stand-alone "private" room at the front of the Tuscan Grille (see photo I posted earlier in this thread). It is all done in wood paneling. I'm assuming that was wood from the Olympic, but it's just a guess. I didn't confirm with anyone.

When they recently and thoughtlessly ripped out the lovely, unique, "Normandie" restaurant on the Summit and replaced it with the boring and generic "Tuscan Grille", all that was left was a few picture frames of menus and artefacts from that famous transatlantic liner displayed around the ship's corridors.

Someone asked about the paneling from Olympic. Saw some paneling and Olympic displays as you enter Fortunes casino. Some paneling at entrance of Tuscan. No crepes...now sushi. Do offer a tour of sushi on 5. Ship looks great and very clean. Attentive staff. Ate at Tuscan at 6pm on sail away. Practically empty. Had a window table for 2. No blinds on windows completely open. Perfect meal. Everything was beyond fabulous. 20% discount on all restaurants night of sail away. Embarkation was ridiculously smooth. Off train in Seaward at 11:10 walked to ship instead of taking shuttle. Beat 2 train shuttle buses and no line to check in!! Wonderful so far.

Absolutely GUTTED by the removal of the Olympic restaurant. Ate there twice on our last Millie cruise and the meals were so memorable-some of the best ever!

We'd already booked to eat in the restaurant on our September cruise and have now had a refund. Why replace it with a steak restaurant-how dull!

I cannot imagine paying these prices for sushi on a cruise ship. Not sure what Celebrity is thinking. I know Bo5 was not very crowded on our previous cruises, but I think this will be a turn for the worse. They would have been better off making this a higher price single charge restaurant....that would at least sit better with me on a cruise. I could be wrong...maybe people will want to pay these prices. But, most people who are on a Celebrity cruise will likely have access to quality sushi restaurants where they live...I rather spend the money there. Just my 2 cents.

Millennium spends half the year in Asia so Celebrity may be thinking that the Sushi restaurant will appeal to the Asians. I agree with others that it will not be a place we will go if we sail on Millie again. We have access to wonderful Sushi restaurants here in Vancouver, no need to pay those ridiculous prices on a cruise.

We were in AQ on deck 11 on the Infinity in April after they re-fit the deck 12 lounge area and the new movie area was very nice and we heard no noise from folks/ movement up there. Don't worry!

Which is why I think may be Solstice is next for the Sushi Bar. Doesn't she visit ports in Asia on the way/during her Australian season?

I am also very sad that the Olympic Restaurant is not the way it was. What an historic treasure to have recovered those panels from that ship and to have had the pleasure of dining in their presence. It was as close to the Titanic as one could get. I feel the same about the panels from the Normandie onboard Summit. So much of cruising has changed so quickly - in some ways it marks the end to an era. I will miss the ambience on those ships.

I could be wrong but I don't think Solstice does Asia. I think she sails mostly Australia/NZ, Fiji and the Pacific Islands plus Hawaii to and from the Australian itineraries.

We are booked on the Solstice in October from Sydney to Singapore. So not sushi territory but still Asia. We are also booked on the Millennium around Japan next year, which I am very excited about.

As you say, not so much sushi territory, but Asia - Singapore, Bali and possibly a couple of other ports? We'll just have to wait and see which ship is next in line ;). We won't be using the new Sushi Bar when we sail on Millie at Christmas, not our thing ;).

Question about onboard temps. Is it comfortable enough for short sleeves? Or is s sweater more appropriate. Hubby trying to figure out packing as we leave for anchorage on Tuesday!

Yes, my husband wore nice golf shirts to dinner on a couple of casual evenings. I walked around the ship with a t-shirt many times and was comfortable.

We are currently on Millie on an Alaska Northbound, with the ship just having gotten out of dry dock. Before we left I saw lots of posts from people with upcoming cruises who were anxious to see how the ship looked. I'm very happy to say she looks great. It was six years since we'd been on her, and I think she looks even better now than she did then. There is nothing I'm aware of that was closed or not completed during the dry dock. Carpeting in many public areas are new, lots of fresh paint, etc.

We've dined in Tuscan Grille twice and it's been outstanding... what a pleasant surprise. Luminae has been mostly good (although we had to send a really tough steak back). Blu has been great too. I have absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Those of you booked for upcoming Millie sailings can rest assured you'll be happy with the condition of the ship. I'll do a detailed review when we get home, but just wanted to let folks know they can rest easy... all is well. I'll hate for this cruise to end! :)

Can you describe any of the excursions you have taken--which ones were worth it and which were so-so.

Thanks!

The Celebrity tours we took were whale watching in Icy Strait Point and the White Pass Railroad in Skagway. Both were good tours, but as I said - disorganized. We saw a ton of whales in ICP! I've done the White Pass tour before privately with Chilkoot and I would highly recommend them. It was waaaay better with Chilkoot. I used Celebrity for these two tours only because I had OBCs to use.

We also did a private tour in Sitka. It was a marine wildlife boat tour. We didn't prearrange it. We just signed up while in Sitka. It was OK. It wasn't great weather which I think affected our enjoyment.

Previously we've done a Misty Fjords floatplane tour in Ketchikan with Island Wings. It was incredible. We've done the Mendenhall Glacier helicopter tour with Temsco in Juneau. It was also terrific. The tramway in Juneau is excellent in good weather but we didn't bother this time due to rain and fog.

My favourite is still the Kenai Fjords 6-hour National Park Tour out of Seward. We've done it with both Major Marine Tours and Kenai Fjords Tours. We liked Kenai Fjords Tours best but both are excellent. There are longer tours if you have the time but make sure you go beyond Resurrection Bay if you do a tour. The wildlife is phenomenal in Kenai Fjords. Make sure nobody in your party is prone to seasickness if you go. Every time I've been there's been a number of people with their faces buried in bags losing their lunch!:)

I'm a bit confused by the recent obsession cruise ships have with Sushi bars. 2 of my previous sailings were on ships that had recently added them, and neither was particularly busy.

In fact, Diamond Princess added them specifically for the Asian market along with a few other upgrades, and we never saw a single person in there! (We were going from Japan to Singapore) It's shame as the venue is stunning.

The sushi bar on Carnival Legend seemed more popular but still relatively empty most times we passed.

It may well be the prices putting people off though, I remember on an NCL cruise many years ago that they had a great sushi bar that was packed every single night, however that just had a single cover charge. It was really interactive with seats all around where they prepared the food, so I guess the entertainment/interest aspect was more appealing too.

I too won't be eating there when we sail in November, as I don't care for it. I'd prefer somewhere that does mixed international or asian cuisine maybe, giving a bit more choice. It doesn't really matter though, lots of venues to choose from so I hope those that do go find it to be lovely.

We were on the First cruise out of dry dock and for the most part had a great time. Our biggest disappointment was Sushi on 5. We only went because we had purchased a 3 dinner package that was quit reasonable. We had booked a table for 8 and when we arrived there were two four tops. The Maitre D was extremely rude and said he told not us that he could not do a table for 8 a9ait Eula have been very easy to push them together. I am glute free and it took them 20 minutes to find the GF soy sauce, The waiter was poorly trained and not vey accommodating. For several in our group, this was their first cruise and I don't think they will be back. we also found that there were a lot of staff members who were uninformed. AHowever, we all loved Cafe aaAl Bacio and found ourselves there several times a day. The. Classic drink package works well for all of us and we found all bartenders and swine stewards most accommodating. MDR staff was top noth, We loved the CC MDR lunch but the other amenities were a yawn. Antwan, my husband who hates buffets, loved the lox, herring and waffles at breakfast and enjoyed the lunch offerings.,

Hi:

Can someone tell me if the Celebrity suites were updaded on Millineum? I hear the furnishings were old and worn. Wondering if they have been replaced? Also, were the bathrooms gutted?

Any recent pics would be welcomed.

Booked on Millie August 2017 for Alaska. Wondering if we would do better on the Solstice. Any feedback on M vs S in Alaska?

Thanks in advance.

We were Aqua class and loved everything. Don't know the suite situation. Rooms were very nice and the bathrooms were clean and well conditioned. Spa was very good and the Blu was outstanding. Millenium looked great everywhere we went. Great Martini Bar.

My wife and daughter are onboard currently.

They switched the decks for dining in the MDR after the dry dock.

Assigned dining is now upstairs (Deck 5) and Select is now downstairs (Deck 4).

We were on the Infinity in May for the Pacific Coastal cruise and they had just switched the fixed and Select dining for our cruise. We were fixed and ate upstairs. We asked several dining room staff why and they said that more people want Select on the Alaska cruises and this was the cruise before the Infinity started it's Alaska run. They wanted to start orienting the staff with the changes early.
