denny514 Posted May 28, 2016 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2016 Hi we are booking a transpacific cruise from Honolulu to Sydney Australia....I was asked what side of the ship I'd like to be on. I wasn't sure what to say.....is one side better?? its a one way cruise......left me wondering.........
cb at sea Posted May 29, 2016 #2 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Doesn't matter. At sea, there is water all around. In ports, the Captain will try to give each side equal time, if possible , facing the dock. Sometimes, the harbor view is better than the dock view! Nic6318 Posted May 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Hi there I guess ( without having been there ) on one side of the ship you would be able to see a sunrise and on the other a sunset from your cabin. Of course if you have an inside cabin the question would be inane. :) have a great cruise

I thought the same water is water......but then thought of ports of call and wondered if we were missing something. We have always had a balcony and never been asked which side of the ship did we want to be on. Take care
Micahs Grandad Posted May 29, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 29, 2016 Can never be sure which way the ship dock and easy to go on deck and watch if necessary.
terri-eddie Posted May 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 29, 2016 If you have a balcony, you might want to consider sunny side versus shady side. Otherwise, not much difference.
RWolver672 Posted May 29, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 29, 2016 My thoughts are if you don't see it on the way, you'll see it on the way back. You never know which way a ship will dock. Sometimes they go straight in, other times they back in.

I wasn't sure what to say.....is one side better?? its a one way cruise......left me wondering......... What side of the ship..... The inside. Seriously won't make much difference at all. Most ships Port will give you a nice view of the Opera house when you get to Sydney.

Tracey/Thom Posted May 29, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 29, 2016 When you have an interior, it doesn't matter. If you have a balcony, sunrises (or sunsets) are gorgeous in a bathrobe with room service coffee!

tandemcruzr Posted May 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 30, 2016 My thoughts are if you don't see it on the way, you'll see it on the way back. They're doing a one way cruise. :)
vwrestler171 Posted May 30, 2016 #13 Share Posted May 30, 2016 I would do starboard since you would be in the shade the majority of the tims and help keep your room cooler. The sun beating on your cabin wall all day could get hot and keep the A/C from cooling the room as efficiently.
cajunfla Posted May 30, 2016 #14 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Hawaii to Sydney. Starboard side would have sunsets and hotter afternoon sun. Port side would have sun rises and more pleasant (not as hot) sun.
poobears Posted May 30, 2016 #15 Share Posted May 30, 2016 Maybe it's because of smoking since some levels allow smoking on port and some on starboard people like to book their balconies on the opposite side of the ship from those public areas. Maybe that agent had a lot of people specify a certain side because of that.
