I've flown Air France Premium economy and it definitely nicer than regular economy but I wouldn't pay much to upgrade for it. More legroom and nicer food menu.

I assume the OP is deciding if premium economy is a "good idea" when traveling overseas? I booked that class on the a380 SFO - CDG last year. I was able to do a paid upgrade to business class at the gate. It was expensive, but I splurged and even though it wasn't a lie flat seat, it was probably the nicest flight (food and service wise) I have ever flown. On the way back, I had my PE seat. It was fine for a daytime flight, but it was, of course, nothing like business class.

Premium economy still beats that hell out of regular economy everyday.

Is this class of service worth the extra price as far as service and comfort?

Depends entirely on what's important to YOU, how long the flight is, etc. Have you flown AF economy on a similar route to know what you're comparing it to?
