Sydney Hotels with the best view!

Recommended Posts

I know there are numerous threads about where to stay. However, it seems most people are trying to balance cost and convenience. We are looking for a magnificent view from our room :D

We've not been to Sydney (or Australia), so it is very difficult from pictures and maps to gain a good perspective. Please suggest some locations for us. We are staying 3 nights pre-Solstice and 2 nights post-Solstice in March.

Thank you!

Circular Quay:

Shangri La

Quay West Suites

Four Seasons

Sir Stamford at Circular Quay

Pullman Quay Grand Circular Quay

Intercontinental

Park Hyatt

These will all give you iconic views of the Opera House and Harbour Bridge, plus they are very close to the Overseas Passenger Terminal where Solstice docks.

Shangri La....thats the one,

When booking specify that you want the classic view.It will be from a high floor and it will be costly...

BUT...

you will have a memory that will last a lifetime.:):)

Quay West Suites, in a Harbour View room (part of the Accor group)......google the pics!! Nestled in between the Four Seasons and Shangri la hotels.

It has absolute harbour view rooms of the Bridge, Opera house and Circular Quay.

We paid $420 for a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment, if sharing with a couple its good value

Pier one

Or

park Hyatt

I agree. These are the best hotels, with a view, if you want to be right on the harbour. Pier One, which is built on one of the restored wharves, is unique. It is close to the Sydney Theatre Company theatres (two of which are on another restored wharf) and one of our favourite restaurants (pre theatre) at the end of the wharf.

The others, as suggested, are the best if you want to overlook a magnificient view.

You could choose to book different hotels pre and post your cruise to taste the difference.

Going to Sydney Theatre next month, first time in years.

May I ask what restaurant it is you like, and what they offer. Wouldn't mind taking Mrs Gut for a fancy nosh up after the show, we got matinee tickets.

Cafe Sydney is always good... and books out long in advance.

Park Hyatt is undoubtedly the finest and most expensive in Sydney. Only 3 floors high.

Both 4 Seasons and Park Hyatt are easy to walk to and close to ship.

Pier One is just around and under the bridge, still walkable, on flat ground, also only 3 floors.

ShangriLa is up on high ground and not walkable with luggage.

Quay Grand also easy to walk to and gives great views of the bridge and ship.

ShangriLa, 4Seasons, Quay West are high rise buildings - hence give you superb views.

All of these are International 4-5 star hotels. Top notch as we say.

Check out Google Maps and bring up Sydney and zoom in around the ferry terminal/bridge. Currently one of the Carnival ships is shown docked at the OPT. You will see how close some of these hotels are.

Which theatre are you going to? There are three. The restaurant I like more for the atmosphere and location is not fancy, more trendy, and is at the end of the same wharf as two of STC Theatres. So you can't beat the convenience. I enjoyed fish and chips last time, whilst girls had an interesting dip selection.

Last time however, we went pre theatre to a fabulous little Japanese restaurant up the hill, then walked down (and up) all those cliff stairs to the Roslyn Packer Theatre, across the road from the wharves.

I would also suggest different hotels pre and post cruise. Circular Quay before the cruise and Darling Harbour afterwards .

I like this idea!! Any suggestions for where to stay in Darling Harbour?

Darling Harbour seems to be a construction site at present. Still attracts a lot of people to its restaurants, etc. though.

We've been to the Walsh Bay Kitchen a couple of times before going to a show at Sydney Theatre (now Roslyn Packer Theatre). It's right next to the theatre. Very good food - ModAus.

Pretty sure it's Ros Packer.

Fish and chips would do us fine.

I always buy a coffee at interval there, when I attend the Roslyn Packer Theatre. However, I didn't realise I could preorder desert.

Thanks!

We are heading to the Roslyn Packer theatre next weekend. Will try the Walsh Bay Kitchen, thanks.

For Darling Harbour I still like the Novotel (the one next to the Ibis, not the Rockford Novotel. Last week I stayed at the Four Points one night as I had two days of meetings in the city with early starts and I am a princess and don't like commuting! While it is a nice, glitzy hotel with great views it isn't nearly as convenient to Darling Harbour as the Novotel as you have to cross over a couple of large roads using bridges up and down stairs. It was fine, but if you have any mobility issues it would be tougher. Good rates at the moment though as it is still in construction in some places.

Hi Cricketts, apologies for taking time to come back to you.

The Darling Harbour hotels which come to mind would be Park Royal, Novotel and Ibis, with the disclaimer that I have never stayed in any of them. Hopefully someone with first hand experience will chime in here. And do make sure you ask for a view room if you choose one.

With 2 teens in tow we opted for an apartment. Metro Apartments on Sussex street gave us that extra space. Still very close and also with a view (albeit restricted) over the precinct. We also had a definite feel of being right in the city.

Just to add to this. Darling Harbour precinct is undergoing major changes in the Barangaroo and chinatown areas. A new crown casino hotel is being built at Barangaroo together with many high rise apartments and office blocks.

Around chinatown, the entertainment arena is being demolished to be replaced with a shopping centre and hotel complex. I would not stay in this area for the time being because of construction noise.

Star Casino has a high rise hotel and an apartment wing that gives great views over Darling harbour to the city and harbour bridge.

The previous mentioned Novatel Darling Harbour has easy pedestrian bridge access to Darling Harbour shopping centre. Definitely taxi only to these hotels.

I like the Sheraton 4points on Sussex st overlooking Darling Harbour. Has in my opinion easy access via several walkway overbridges to Darling Harbour with an elevator to street level also. Very close to central downtown also.

Adina Apartments are also in Darling Harbour on Lime St.

We have stayed at Star Casino a few times, mainly when we're there for a show, it's not bad, but a bit out of the way if leaving from OPT, haven't looked into it but might be good for White Bat embarkations.
