RCCL Suite vs. Celebrity Suite

Recommended Posts

If you have sailed on Celebrity and RCCL in a suite which ones would you find comparable? It looks like the Sky suite is smaller than a Grand suite. We booked a 5 day cruise to Bermuda in an Owners suite on Grandeur for August 2017, but have found that we can book a 7 day cruise on Celebrity Summit for a cheaper price during the same time frame in a Sky suite which currently includes internet, drink packages, gratuities, and $300 OBC. I am wondering if the Celebrity suite is more like the Grand suite.

The Penthouse suites on Celebrity are more akin to the Grand suites on RCCL. We have been in both and far prefer the former which has a genuine separate bedroom and butler service.

However our last cruise on Celebrity was in a Celebrity suite, again with a separate bedroom but no dinning table. We found this better than a Penthouse, and less expensive (though with a few less perqs) because we rarely use room service.

Celebrity also offers an all-day all free club for top suite guests (Celebrity suite upwards - not Sky or Aqua) and all suite guests get to use the more spacious dinning room that is set aside for them.

I don't think the PH suits on Celebrity are akin to the GS on RCL at all as on Millennium Class ships they are 1,432 sq. ft. and on Solstice Class ships they are 1,294 sq. ft. v 401 sq. ft. for a GS on Independence, as example. The Celebrity Suites on Celebrity are of a more fair comparison as they are 394 sq. ft. The PH suites on Celebrity would be more comparable to a Royal Suite on RCI, which again on Independence is 1,358 sq. ft.

A Sky Suite on Celebrity Summit is approximately 251 square feet, which is like a Junior Suite on Royal Caribbean. Try a Google search for photos and videos of sky suites on Summit.

I always sail in a GS on RCCL and when on Celebrity in a Sky Suite (both SS1 & SS2). I'm not fond of the Celebrity Suite because of the separate bedroom which is why I like the GS so much for the open plan design. The GS is much larger and the bathroom is twice the size with double sinks than the SS. The SS now has access to Michael's Club with complimentary beverages throughout the day and evening. Plus all suites, SS and above have an exclusive restaurant "Luminae" which is very nice. As mentioned, Celebrity does have butler service for suites. I love both cruise lines and book both of these cabins based on ship and itinerary. Check out some Youtube videos to get a better idea.

Space and floor plan, a GS wins over a SS

since we found our Butler to be, well, unnecessary...(not to mention so quiet we had to strain to hear his knocks, let alone his voice) I'd have to weigh all the other intangibles a SS offers to see if the pros outweighed the cons.

that being said, we sailed on Century with did not have Luminae at the time.

but we do enjoy the overall Celebrity product and in fact are seriously considering going with them for our Alaska trip in 2017.

Is there much difference between an S1 and S2 other than location?

I've sailed in both on the Solstice class ships. The S1 are aft corner cabins and have a different cabin configuration with an extra round window on the side plus a larger balcony. I have a S2 booked on the Infinity (Panama) and my understanding is that most S1 and S2 cabins are the same configuration on Millennium class (cabins 6131 & 6132 look larger) with some S1 having larger balconies. The best S1 cabins on the M class ships are 6145 and 6146 because they originally were part of the Penthouse suites. They have a large double sink bathroom and a separate shower and tub. I'm sure these cabins go fast. I've seen them on youtube and they look nice. Hope this helps.

Thanks. We upgraded to an S1 from an S2 for March 2018 on a price drop and still lowered our final. Not sure how that worked but I'll take it. We really like Celebrity but haven't done a suite yet.

Are you confusing imperial and metric measurements? Believe me we have been in both and one is not three times the size of the other.

Regardless of measure, the comparative sizes are exactly as I indicated as I got them directly from both cruise lines websites - and the unit of measure for both is square feet. If you look at the floor plans for each the relative sizes are obvious. Go check both websites for yourself.

If you are comparing Celebrity's Penthouse suite to RCI's Grand suite it is indeed three times the size. I have also stayed in an RCI Grand Suite and have seen the Celebrity Summit Penthouse suite. I assure you I am not the one confused.

Lucky you! If you're on a S class ship, you'll love the S1. I prefer the configuration and the balcony size. We really enjoyed all the meals in Luminea especially on formal nights. I also love a fresh hot breakfast. FYI: Upon checking in on embarkation day, you'll receive a blue suite folder which will signify that you are to be escorted to Luminae for lunch (11:30-1:30). If you have any other questions, just ask.

Thank you leaveitallbehind. Mea culpa and humble pie. I was talking about the Royal Suite we were in, not a Penthouse. Sorry for my confusion and sorry if I confused anybody else.

Now, which ship were we on in a Penthouse? I'm confused!

We have sailed in GS, CLS and OS in Royal and RS and CS in Celebrity. Now that our children are older we decided this year to "downgrade" ourselves to two Sky Suites and it was great. Someone compared the SS to the Jr suites in Royal and probably in size they are similar but unlike Jr suites in Royal, a SS gives you full suite benefits. A butler, concierge lounge access and Luminae. Celebrity's beverage packages are also better than Royals IMHO. Hope this helps.:)

No need to apologize - I was only trying to sort it out with you. With all the different stateroom categories offered by the different cruise lines its very easy to inadvertently identify one when you mean another. Penthouse, Royal, Signature, Owners, Grand, etc., they all can be pretty confusing! :)

No matter what the stateroom - or suite - enjoy your cruising!

Agree. The Sky Suite on Celebrity reminded me more of a JS on RC.

Just did my first cruise with Celebrity this past March on Constellation. We were in an aft Sky Suite (I think it was an S1) next to the one of their high end suites. We also had all the perks and access to their concierge lounge and suite restaurant. It was a very nice cruise.

Booked 2 more while on board for 2017, and both those cruises included all the perks, and even more generous obc.
