Not sure about the smaller ones. Edited August 23, 2016 by Aegis1984
808lady Posted August 23, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Not sure which ship you are on but we were on Konigsdam during the Euro Cup championships and they broadcast the games on the big screen TV by the pool and we could view them in our stateroom on the TV. The problem, of course, is the times. We live in Germany and our beloved Florida State Seminoles will kick off at something like 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 6 September. Good luck to your hubby (unless he is an Ole Miss fan.):)
jakkojakko Posted August 23, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Football or soccer? As said, main events can be seen in the sportsbar. For the world soccer they even used the movietheater for broadcasts, this in the rotterdam.
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 23, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 23, 2016 (edited) There is also the problem of reception. Sometimes the ships can't get the signal. Edited August 23, 2016 by Krazy Kruizers
take us away Posted August 23, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 23, 2016 If reception is good, (which for the Atlantic is most of the time), you can watch the US football games in the Sports Bar and sometimes on ESPN in your cabin.
lahlah57 Posted August 23, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Sorry....we will be on the Koningsdam. Not soccer but football. Hope it will be picked up somewhere on board!:o
dakrewser Posted August 23, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Which football? College (probably not), NFL (maybe a national game). If you want to follow your local team think internet and streaming. Of course a 1 PM kickoff in California is a 10 PM kickoff in Europe.

(bold is mine) At the cost of the ship's internet (never mind the speed), it might be cheaper to fly home for the day and watch there!!! Or is Koningsdam's internet better than on the other ships? I don't recall having much luck finding football on the cabin TV, haven't tried any bars. I think the only US football we've seen on HAL is the Superbowl. They make a big deal about that. I suggest OP set up the DVR. That's my plan for our fall cruise. (Go, Giants!)
HollDoll Posted August 23, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Took that same cruise a could years ago. I recall football being on in the sport bar, but it's a crapshoot as to whether your team will be on. Mine never was! Packers, of,course!
cb at sea Posted August 23, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Just record the games at home, and he'll be able to "catch up" upon your return!
FearTheFrog Posted August 23, 2016 #13 Share Posted August 23, 2016 Just got off the Koningsdam which corresponded to week 1 of the Olympics. They did not air these anywhere. When I asked about it I was told that NBC was charging a fortune for the rights and HAL opted not to pay for this. This was a HUGE disappointment. I truly had visions of watching them on the giant screen by the pool. With such an international passenger demographic this could have been very enjoyable. The stateroom TVs and the fitness center TVs have ESPN2 and ESPNU- but not regular ESPN and certainly not US networks. There is no sports bar. At worst you can watch the games that are on those 2 ESPN networks. Hopefully there will be better broadcast rights available for you.
hastinc Posted August 23, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 23, 2016 It is a pity that HAL does not have Sport24 channel like other cruise lines. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app

elusive_23 Posted August 23, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 23, 2016 We were able to watch the NFL football (Packers) at the Sports bar on our Caribbean cruise on the Oosterdam Oct/Nov 2015. They also showed other games as well and the bar was busy (sometimes packed) for those games. Great camaraderie and fun to be had by teasing rival teams. I noticed that the games were also on our cabin tv's. Not sure about on the K. Good luck to your hubby!

RuthC Posted August 23, 2016 #20 Share Posted August 23, 2016 I was on a series of four cruises, over 39 days, last October/November. I sailed the Med, and ended with the trans-Atlantic, on the Nieuw Amsterdam, which had installed the interactive TV system. I found that unlike other years, NFL football WAS available every Sunday. :) There was one dedicated station that broadcast a 1:00 PM (eastern) game, followed by the 4:30 PM (eastern) game. Whether the game was CBS or FOX did not matter; the same station switched between the two networks. I believe the NBC Sunday night game was also broadcast, but the time zone difference made it impossible for me to watch, except the very last week. The games were televised in the Sports Bar, as well as in the cabins. I would not be at all surprised if the Koningsdam, with the same type of TV system, has the same set-up for football. At least there is precedent.

RuthC Posted August 24, 2016 #24 Share Posted August 24, 2016 First game of the World Series is October 25th. Wow. I honestly did not know that. I don't follow baseball, but do remember years when the World Series ended (7th game, too) around Columbus Day. The season sure is getting longer.
