Crusin6 Posted September 12, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 12, 2016 The $7.95 was a good idea. Probably stops a lot of food being wasted. Some people just like to stay in their room and strap on the feedbag all day. Maybe the $7.95 will help control that. Right...because room service menus are extraordinary...lol Sent from my iPad using Forums

LrgPizza Posted September 12, 2016 #28 Share Posted September 12, 2016 Oh look NCL is once again removing something that was in your cruise price and turning it into an up-sell charge. So let's take stock here; there is now no free room service (unless all you want is cold breakfast and bad coffee!). No free pop/soda, no free bottle water, no free lobster, no free GOOD coffee, all the good food is only in the specialty restaurant the you have to pay extra for and you can't bring on any thing to drink that you like( water, juice, pop,etc...)! Will it looks like my time with NCL is at and end. Have a great day[emoji924][emoji4][emoji106] I don't think you read this post. Lobster isn't being removed from the complimentary dining. That happened a long, long time ago. It's being removed from the specialty dining. I hope that clarifies. And pop and bottled water were never free on this cruise line. NLH Arizona Posted September 12, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 12, 2016 Well, I am royally pissed!! The only reason I purchased a 5-night SDP for our coming 14 night transatlantic was so hubby could have lobster at Cagneys and Le Bistro. I did that also in April and he really enjoyed the treat. He was looking forward to having it again so is going to be disappointed. I know that the easterners don't understand since they have lobster readily available but for some of us cruisers, having lobster tail for at least one cruise dinner was a treat we looked forward to. I would call NCL and ask to cancel the SDP, I'm sure they will understand and give you your money back, under the circumstances.
cdngooner Posted September 12, 2016 #30 Share Posted September 12, 2016 If you really want lobster, take a cruise to New Brunswick or Nova Scotia. They are about $8 a pound here cooked. I get so much lobster at home, I couldn't think about eating it going out. In fact, at a fancy place in New York once, I paid $100 for a seafood special that was not as good as what I can from the dock here for $20. Have a great day[emoji924][emoji4][emoji106] I just returned from a wonderful cruise on the BA and the food was very good in all venues, not just specialty. I was able to refill my brita waterbottle with no issues and I paid considerably less for my balcony than I would have on the other cruiselines. So I think I'll stay with NCL as long as the price is right.
NLH Arizona Posted September 12, 2016 #32 Share Posted September 12, 2016 (edited) Oh look NCL is once again removing something that was in your cruise price and turning it into an up-sell charge. Sorry, but lobster has not been free (or included in your cruise fare) for over a couple of years now. Mr. Sheehan took it off the MDR menu when he was at the helm of NCL. Also, when was their free soda, must have been way before I started cruising with NCL. Edited September 12, 2016 by NLH Arizona
Annmeat Posted September 12, 2016 #33 Share Posted September 12, 2016 I would venture that if the demand for cold water lobster by other markets continues to increase , as well as the lobster bait shortage that is looming for Maine lobsterman, all cruise lines will need to either increase the charge for lobster or remove it. On RCL our past few cruise lobster was only available as an upcharge in the MDRs or as a warm water tail with the surf and turf at the specialty restaurants. You could also get a teeny split half lobster as part of a fisherman's platter on a certain night. It is not as though Royal is throwing Maine lobsters at people free of charge. The few times that one of us did order it for the 30.00 upcharge , the lobster was less than spectacular. Perhaps if the market changes and the prices decrease perhaps we will see a return to availability. From the time that I booked our upcoming NCL cruise early this year until now, the Haven dinner menus alone have changed three times. NMLady- I sincerely hope that the availability is better when you cruise ! It sucks to expect and anticipate a certain something and then you cant get it. lah66 Posted September 12, 2016 #34 Share Posted September 12, 2016 Does anybody know if you can still get the lobster roll at the Ocean Blue "window" on Breakaway for lunch on sea days? And if yes, was it worth it? I think I saw a price of $10 quoted. Very mixed reviews! Lauri

As to the definition of good coffee, I cannot help you there, I like the coffee. The lobster has not been around for "free" since our July, 2014 NCL cruise. Under Mr Sheehan the lobster at seafood night was limited to what was described as small chunks of ubiquitous lobster-like meat in a pasta dish. Yup, before the Del Rio days the lobster was removed. When Getaway first sailed in Feb 2014, I read some reviews with photos attached. The pictures showed passengers with plates stacked with 10-12 lobster tails from the buffet. By May the tails were gone and the alfredo introduced. In July we had a small lobster as part of a surf and turf in the Haven and only on Seafood night. Times have changed. If the product is no longer good for you, absolutely go elsewhere. I personally would love to find a fair-priced cruise that provides soda, bottled water and all the Maine lobster that I want to eat. I'm looking forward to our next cruise. Might be our last for a while with college tuition looming.:)

I spoke with pre-concierge about another issue and the Ocean Blu walk up window is not changing their menu ( for what the info is worth!!) the price is now $10.95. Ill let you know in a month! They are delicious, BTW. That is MY review! edit- I asked about Getawy. Sorry-not Breakaway. Maybe go to next week's Breakaway rollcall and ask a member to check it out? Sissaaaaaa Posted September 12, 2016 #39 Share Posted September 12, 2016 Two weeks ago, lobsters disappeared off all of the specialty restaurant menus on the Norwegian Dawn. The Dawn had changed to the Escape menus when it came out dry dock q couple of months ago. Now they are offering modified menus in all specialty restaurant. The only place you can order a lobster dinner now is the MDR for a $24.99 upcharge. And it is a 12 oz grilled tail, not a whole lobster. What about the lobster fra diavolo at La Cucina? is that gone too?

I posted menus that I received from pre concierge last week. No lobster. But it may vary by week, month, ship, day- who knows? I would pose the question to a roll call traveling next week and see if someone will report back.

La Cucina had shrimp fra diavolo on the Gem last week -- no lobster on the menu at all. I thought it was good, but I don't have any basis of comparison. Some Haven reviews talking about ordering 3-4 lobsters every night during those 4 months that whole lobster was on the menu nightly.. With prices so high I can see the problem. While some of the changes being made are just bad business , I can understand why lobster has been perhaps eliminated. 2 Haven cruises ago the waitress specifically mentioned that only one lobster would be allowed on seafood night.
